Chapter 4: BATHILDA

It had been three months since i had been back after cancelling my trip to take care of my siblings. Slowly but surely i was getting tired of the mundane routine that i had to follow. Not being able to understand the need for a talent like me to undertake only petty jobs to take care of my family despite being the top student of my batch was equally frustrating. i had asked around for all sorts for research offers or fellowships but was stunned to discover the naivety of my situation.

These jobs either had me go a long distance away from family or surprisingly stringiest working conditions and payments or a mixture of both. the condition of my sister had made me unable to undertake the long distance jobs and the ones with rough conditions were beneath me or so i thought. It was only when I came to know the actual financial hell that are parents had left us in that i decided to comply with whatever job i could find and work.

Bathilda was a very kind neighbor to us. During my daily jobs it was she who would occasionally keep an eye out for my sister and even provide us with occasional dinner that was actually enjoyable to eat. She was a rare ray of intellect around the dull world of mediocrity around me. I had grown to like the conversations we used to share over the post dinner tea that she would quite enjoy.

Being a world renowned historian, i was never before that interested in maintaining more that a cordial relationship with her. It was only after truly having a conversation did i understand that the world was very narrow minded once you accomplish greatness in a particular field. This was a very valuable lesson, one which i made sure does not happen to me as i leave my mark on the magical community.

The Bathilda i came to know and understand was one of the most gifted witch ever to walk the planet, but as is the case with everything that is too good it is to be balanced. She was knowledgeable in all fields including the elusive alchemy and the vague elemental arts that even many of my other famous correspondences were unable to properly comprehend. After the discovery i was confused as to why she wasn't one of the leading forces and was content to be known as a historian. It was then that she revealed that though she was rather proficient with the knowledge of magic her reserves were pitifully low even when compared to ordinary witches and wizards.

Though she was polite enough to share the knowledge when presented with the problem she was shrewd enough to not entrust me with any books on advanced knowledge of her private library. It was only later when her nephew came to visit that i was able to broaden my world view to the effects magic can have ranging from day to day to the most devastating effects. It is also to be made perfectly clear that though i was ambitious before the knowledge was presented it was only after this that we had cemented to conquer both the mundane and magical world.

FRO THE GREATER GOOD.
