I stared at Emily as I turned from where I was positioned on the ladder. She aimed her gaze at me while holding a paintbrush in her hand.

"About . . . ?" 

Her eyes became very tight. "Regarding the split. about your swift action. About Andy, this unidentified guy you're now fucking, and how your life has changed since only two months ago?" 

I wore a grin all the time. I see that. What can be said? 

Her laughter was followed by a delicate wrist motion over her forehead that left a light paint smear. Emily was determined to paint their whole flat while Robert was away on business and unavailable to supervise the job. Robert was out of town on business. She seemed worn out. 

Why didn't you just pay someone to handle everything? Looking around, I questioned. Surely you can afford it, I say.
