Chapter 5: Chapter 5: The Berserk Is Real
Among the exiled prisoners, there is a former general's family that was framed by the emperor. The reason is that the woman the emperor wanted to make his concubine married the general's son.
A/N: For a simple reference, I'd say 60% of the people are scholars, 30% are retired soldiers, 8% are carpenters, and 2% know about agriculture.
When they first saw Hao Ruofei, the retired soldiers became tense. At first, they thought he was a bandit, and some even feared he was an enemy soldier. But when Ruofei began talking to them, they felt a warm and sunny disposition from him.
"Who is that guy?" "He's so strong!" "He handled those thugs like it was nothing." "He even cut off their arms and legs without a second thought!"
The bailiff asked some villagers, and they told him about Ruofei's deeds and history. According to rumors, his mother fled the village because his father used to beat her. Since then, both siblings have been isolated by the villagers.
When he was 7 years old, his father tried to beat his sister, Hao Dani, but Hao Ruofei fought back, and from then on, his father never dared touch Hao Dani again. Ruofei was gifted with hunting; he could shoot a bird out of the sky with a simple piece of wood by throwing it.
Not only that, but he also knew the importance of knowledge. He would beat scholars and force them to teach him, but Ruofei knew how to repay them. He would hunt animals and share the meat with the scholars' families.
One day, he suddenly appeared and helped his sister wash clothes. No other man would help a woman with laundry, and he protected his sister like a treasure.
Two years ago, a woman in the village was beaten by her husband. She had no brothers, and her parents had passed away, leaving her at the mercy of her husband's family, who treated her like a slave. She had also given birth to a daughter, lowering her status further.
One day, we heard the woman being beaten and crying, with her daughter begging for help. We wanted to assist, but no one dared to intervene since we weren't her family, and the man had many brothers and cousins. Suddenly, Ruofei charged in, beat the husband, dragged him outside, tied him to a tree, and whipped him while demanding to know why he was beating his wife.
Many of us were scared senseless; Ruofei had been extraordinarily strong since he was young. The man's uncle and cousins tried to help, but they were beaten as well. The village leader came out and asked Ruofei why he was meddling in this family's affairs, and Ruofei responded, "Any woman without a brother will become my adopted sister."
(Side Note: At this point, Ruofei's height had reached 180 cm.)
If any of these women were bullied, Ruofei would seek revenge and beat the bullies. At first, no one believed him, but then he started cleaning up lazy husbands and punishing those who abused their wives. He even tortured some of them until they helped their wives.
Due to complaints from several villagers, the clan eventually banded together to try to expel him. More than 50 men came to his house with weapons, but Ruofei managed to defeat them all on his own.
Since then, the men in the village have become honest. They no longer dare to bully their daughters or treat their wives like slaves. According to a scholar, the reason Ruofei does this is because of his mother. He believes his mother left due to his father's abuse, and if he had been just a little older, he could have protected her. His regret has since turned into a desire to protect his neighbors. Hao Ruofei is infamous not just in his village, but also in Dashun Village and Guilin Village; everyone knows about him.
(Side Note: There are only 3 villages in this mountainous area, with the least populated being Zhou Village. The total population is around 5,000 people.)
Unfortunately, because of Hao Ruofei's actions, he was rejected by many elders. Many wanted to marry his little sister, but their mothers refused due to the scandal and their fear that Hao Ruofei would beat them. When the bailiff and the exiled prisoners heard this, they fell silent.
They looked at Hao Dani, and she was truly beautiful, rivalling even the most beautiful woman in the capital.
