Chapter 47: Chapter 45: Plan and Study [Jay]
Jay was in the midst of studying when someone decided to come knocking.
"Hey! Jay, when are you going to be done with your reading?" Valor said, kicking the door open and making a scene at the library.
"Shh."
"..sorry, so when are you coming back to the inn? You've been here for hours."
"Well sorry, I've been training for so long."
"This is how you train?"
"Well yeah, how else would I train?"
"Precision, cutting back on spell chants, mastery of a spell…any of those ringing a bell?"
"What do you think I'm doing right now?" Jay deadpanned, as Valor just gave a confused look.
"Reading a book?"
"No, I'm studying a spell and engraving it into my mana circuit, so I can call upon the spell faster. It's something for efficiency that I came up with when I woke up..when I was studying new spells."
"Wow, sounds complicated, how long does it take?"
"Shouldn't take too much longer, but it's boring since I have to slowly engrave it." Valor looked off into the distance before sitting down next to him and taking out a black book. He immediately seemed confused, as Jay sighed before beginning to help him read it.
"Don't you need to focus?"
"Not completely, it's the power of multitasking. I'm a genius, so it's all fine." They proceeded on like this in almost silence with it only being broken by the occasional question from Valor. Finally the time came for the pang of pain from using this method. He had grown accustomed to it that he had almost become numb to it and as per usual there was no one that notic-
"Are you okay?" Valor's golden eyes showed the immense worry he had, as Jay just nodded. This didn't seem to alleviate any of the worry, so he spoke up, "Val, I'm fine. It just happens at the end of the process."
"How many times have you done this? This doesn't seem normal."
"Well every method of getting stronger requires a lot of blood, sweat, and tears. I mean you tear your muscles, so they grow back stronger. I bet that hurts like a bitch." Valor squinted a bit before nodding with a smile, "Yeah I guess you're right. So you done because I'm starving."
"Yeah alright, let's go."
"Hey…do you think of the loss we had against the old geezer?" This took Jay by surprise, but he nodded while looking before taking out multiple scrolls.
"I've thought about it more than I'd like to admit. I mean we've meshed as a team so well that I thought we would be fine no matter what. Sure there were some close calls, but..I guess I was being optimistic in being able to take down anyone as long as we were together." Jay opened them up to reveal multiple detailed plans.
"Are these plans to fight against him? Damn this is a lot more than I expected."
"All of these plans rely on a lot of luck and chance variables." Valor read them over again before nodding.
"So what? We'll get stronger and once we're ready make a plan with our future strength. He'll be the one in danger then."
"The problem with that is aside from your necromancy book, I've exhausted every option aside from leveling to get stronger. There are a couple places we can go to though, but we need to ask the rest of the party for their opinion."
"Then, we'll have to go there and get stronger. Either way I was reaching my limit here too. Besides I doubt any of them wanted to stay here much longer. We all kinda survive off chaos and adventure."
"That is true, I don't know what it was that made me want to join you on this crazy, stupid adventure, but I'm glad I did."
"Yeah me too, but then again getting smack all the time really hurts." Valor began to rub the back of his head, "Well maybe be less of an idiot and they'll stop hitting your head." They laughed a poked fun at each other until they reached the inn where everyone else was impatiently waiting for them.
"Dude bros that took way too long!" Leon yelled while throwing an apple at Jay.
"Hey, you see there was a black cat that crossed our path, so we had to take the long way." Valor's dumbass excuse only seemed to piss everyone present off, as he had to run out of the building due to multiple projectiles thrown at him.
"Well since everyone seems to be getting bored around here…I thought we could go off on another adventure…specifically to Circe's island. In…let's say 3 days?"
"I'm in!" Leon jumped around while Kai and Davis gave thumbs-up. Daisy seemed pumped, but out of everyone Eunice seemed the most unsure. She ended up agreeing and their next adventure was set. All that was left was to enjoy the last few days of their vacation and head off.
