Chapter 31: Chapter 30: A Question [Jay]
"Hey, why do you think Val did that?" Eunice asked.
"Honestly I'm not completely sure. I barely met him a few months ago while you've known him for a bit less. I'm not sure if I could've done that with his zero hesitation...but us being his friends might not be the whole reason. He sometimes gets this look. I don't know what it is but it gives a glimpse of sadness. When I saw him cry I caught a glimpse of it again, but he doesn't talk about it much. My only guess is that it has to do with his family, remember how he asked to keep the Necklace?"
"Yeah, what about it?"
"He seemed so...different. I don't know how to explain it though."
"Yeah, but we have to wait until he opens up about it himself. Nothing good will come from pressuring him to tell us." Jay could only agree before buying the rations they would need and heading back to the room they left Val. On the way, he noticed a dying flower which he subsequently forgot about.
"Hey, do you think that Val is actually okay?"
"I'm not sure. You saw that scar too, but I know Daisy's magic and she can heal scars easily."
"Hm...well I'll just keep looking after Val like usual." Although it seemed like Jay was implying it was a hassle he actually felt a strong connection to Valor. They got to Val's room and before opening the door they heard, "Please, I'll give you anything Daisy. I need protein, meat! I can't go on with just soup and vegetables! I need something delicious!"
"No! You can't have any meat for a week and if you keep complaining I'll raise it to 2 weeks!"
"Is he causing you trouble again over the no meat thing?"
"Yeah and I'm this close to beating him up and healing him to beat him up again." Valor inched away from Daisy and made sure he was within arms reach of his sword in case of sudden attack.
'I hope he knows that he won't be able to fend off Daisy even if he did have his sword.' Sadly, he did not and Daisy kicked his ass a bit and healed him afterwards.
"Demons! All of you!" Valor sulked massaging his head because of what Jay suspected to be phantom pain.
"Nah, I'm only hum-" Jay was interrupted by Leon, "Hey! What do you think of my extremely cool clothes!" Leon stood there with his new accordion pants, dress shoes, a monocle, and a pirate shirt.
"I've never felt more disgusted than I do now." Eunice said.
"Wow! Please tell me you got some for me!" Leon pulled out the same outfit for Valor, as he placed it on the bed.
'Flame.' Jay thought, as the clothes started to burn.
"Why did they burn up?" Val asked.
"Maybe these are cursed and your holy presence destroyed the clothes." Leon proclaimed.
"I see." Valor took this completely seriously, as he decided to sleep.
"Looks like he's burnt out still."
"Well he did go beyond his own means and did also get beaten up by Daisy."
"Hey! I healed him back up didn't I?"
"Still beat the shit out of him first." Leon interjected with a smirk. Daisy smiled menacingly at Leon before grabbing her staff.
"Okay! Before any of us ends up committing another crime, how about we all just eat something?"
"As long as it's not your cooking." Jay felt irritated, but conceded to the point. Everyone was getting rest, as Valor slept soundly in the other room.
