Chapter 30: Chapter 29: Will he be okay? [Leon]
"Will he be okay?" Leon asked frantically, as they brought him to the nearby town.
"I will heal him, but I need some of you to share your Mana." Daisy was continuously healing him on the way there, so she was starting to look a bit pale.
"What...if he dies…?" Kai asked while holding up Jay.
"He's not going to die!" Leon yelled, "Calm down, yelling isn't going to make things any better." Jay tried to calm everyone to almost no visible success.
'I can't get that image out of my fucking head….one of the last things I did to him was push him off a cliff...what if I can't apologize to him...why does this remind me of….stop focus on Val here!'
"Why did that idiot have to do that!?" Eunice scowled.
"What do you mean?"
"He could have gone under the protective barrier too, but he decides to play hero!"
"It's because he knew I barely had enough Mana to make one to fit all of us. Not to mention the cost of protecting us from that onslaught. He probably figured that it was better for him to take one for the team." Jay tried to defend Valor.
"Look where that got him! How many times do you think he'd be willing to pull this kind of shit!?"
"I'm not sure.."
"Hey….you know it's not nice to insult a guy when he's right in front of you all. I think I might cry a bit." They gave him a bone-crushing hug, as he winced.
"You're such a dumbass you know." Eunice glared at him, "You want a hug too?"
"No, of course not." Daisy stood up and made her hug Valor.
"I knew you guys cared about me! Also this is going to leave a permanent mark." On his wrist lay a pale white full moon.
"I do not care about you! You just did something extremely stupid is all!" Eunice tried to argue which was not believed by anyone there.
"I can probably remove it." Daisy's magic seemed to have no effect after a good 5 minutes which seemed to annoy Daisy.
"It's technically a side effect from something I did. Now I can see weak points when I channel Mana into the symbol. It's an instantaneous skill activation now. My body got messed up like this because of two factors."
'The hair on his arm..is it lighter than usual?'
"Which are?"
"My body can't handle the skills I used aside from the one that put this on my wrist. The most important one was that invulnerability came at the cost of the multiplication of the damage I received after I ran out of Mana. The Mana cost of said skill was practically all my Mana which left me with about 3 seconds. It did boost my capabilities for a tiny bit though."
"So what you're saying is that you're stupid and almost died because of it." Jay bluntly said.
"Can't I get at least some praise?" They just looked at Valor before cracking small smiles.
"You did good, but not because of the stunt you pulled! If you ever so much as pull a stunt like that, not even Hades will be able to protect you from us." Daisy said with Eunice next to her, still trying to act like she doesn't care.
"Y-Yeah I hear you...hey guys…" Valor's voice sounded so meek that it seemed almost unrecognizable.
"Are you okay? Are your injuries not fully healed?"
"No...I just need rest...but...can I keep this...I'd like to have a connection with...Hestia..though I get it if it would be better for someone else to have it…" Valor said all that while clutching the blanket he was under, "Yeah, don't sweat it besides we got other rewards from that excursion. We got his crown, the Frost Queen's Battle-axe, and Armor. I think there's no one else who deserves that necklace more than you." Unknowingly tears ran down Valor's face.
"Huh? Why am I crying?" Everyone seemed bewildered by this, as they tried their best to console him, "Hey cheer up! We cleared a dungeon, remember!" They failed. The awkward attempts at consoling him didn't go unappreciated though.
"Yeah..we did...here this is the money I got from clearing the dungeon. I'm guessing I got the most for delivering the final blow, so split it up and go do what you need to while I rest up." Valor's smile returned in full force, as only the slight red tint under his eyes was the only indication that he had been crying.
"Hey Leon, come with me."
"Whatsup Jay?"
"You have fur growing on your arms and neck. You should take a few deep breaths. Valor's safe, so stay with him to make sure if you want." Leon took a few breaths before feeling his beating heart that seemed to be just one beat when it was instead multiple heartbeats happening too fast to feel every single one. He felt it slow, as he re-entered the rook with Jay.
"I'll stay here and you all can get some supplies." Daisy said while Jay, Eunice, Kai, and Davis left.
"Why aren't you going to get some fresh duds?" Valor joked.
"Why did you take the risk?"
"You guys were in danger and Kai was out along with Jay. I think I made the correct decision."
"You got hurt, how was that the correct choice?"
"I had the highest chance of survival in that scenario." Leon just scowled at him before finally sighing.
"Never do it again okay? Promise me."
"Promise me too, I just barely managed to save you. I don't want to see that again."
"I...promise, I'm sorry about that." Valor finally said. Leon and Daisy smiled, as Valor started to eat some soup.
"Is it good?"
"It's pretty good, but how come there's no meat?"
"That's because you are banned from eating meat for a week. Jay and Eunice thought of this while making the soup." Valor's face paled, as he started to beg.
"I'm going out to buy some new fresh duds!" Leon left with a goofy smile, as Valor gave him a thumbs-up. Daisy decided to stay in case Valor needed to be healed, so Leon promised to bring her food.
"Man...I wonder if I should get some snazzy clothes for Val too...nah he can buy it with his own money." Leon continued walking down the streets, as he saw a couple of flowers wither. He continued on without worry until he saw a blackened wolf before looking to see two people who he'd thought he'd never see again. He rubbed his eyes as he saw them disappear, "Mom? Dad…."
