Chapter 16: Chapter 16: Non-Necromancy [Valor]

"Hey have you seen Jay?"

"Nope, but check out this sweet pillow I found in the caravan," Kai said surprised.

"He's probably out attending to nature, if you know what I'm saying." Valor smirked.

"Think he got captured again,"

"He's not a damsel in distress,  I'm sure he's fine."

"That would be embarrassing if he did, two kidnappings in a month, not even damsels can manage that."

"Well there is that one from that fairy tale with the plumber, but that one is kind of new." Valor shook his head remembering the story.

"Really I thought the one with the wolf knight and demon girl was better."

"Yeah, but it was a little darker than the original that it was based off of," Davis said, as the conversation was turning towards stories they'd read.

The night had passed and when they woke they realised, "Oh shit, we forgot Jay!"

"Again?" Valor said, "How did I manage to forget twice?" Valor punched his knee.

"Well he is pretty forgettable."

"No that's not the point, we got to find him. He's my best buddy!" Valor started to look around for any signs of his best buddy, Jay.

"Best buddy is going a bit far," Jay said appearing from nowhere, "At first I thought you couldn't find me, but no you guys forgot."

"We were busy talking about different stories and we just assumed that you were taking a leak." Leon said, with a poker face.

"All of those stories are basically fanfiction though."

"Hey!"

"How so?"

"I mean if you think about the story morphs over time so each teller of the story makes it no longer the original, therefore fanfiction."

"Every story would be categorized as fanfiction then," Kai boredly stated.

"Not necessarily as the fact that the stories stemmed from somewhere means there is an original?" Davis added.

"Anyways where did you go off to?"

"Well unfortunately for me, I got to meet a couple of fish in a trench suit."

"Can I meet them too! I wanna meet talking fish!" Valor jumped up and down.

"No… it was a guy who just smelt like a ton of fish, his name was Mr.Outre

"Sounds nice, so on a scale of one to ten how high were you?" Valor asked.

"Very, the sleep spell made me half deranged, while speaking to him, but he agreed to give me this," Jay said, holding up a small knife.

"Can I have it?" Valor looked at it before trying to grab it.

"NO if you want one go visit him yourself. Not that I recommend it,"

"Nah, it's fine just happy to see that you're fine." Valor quickly calmed down.

With a quick strike Jay seemingly struck his arm with the knife. However despite the knife looking sharp, it wasn't. "See this knife has bothered me for the whole night. It could be illusion magic. Maybe even some divine form of transmutation, but a sharp knife should hurt me right?"

"Unless you're as thick skinned, as you seem."

Jay walked over to a tree and with a single cut it fell down. "You see this, I'm not strong at all, the weakest here probably, yet it does nothing to me. I think its a contract sealer?"

Valor tried to pick up the knife from Jay, but when he touched it a ghostly feeling rushed him, 'Whatever created that blade wasn't human. This is similar to some things from…"

"Maybe it's a sort of blood contract." Valor suggested while pondering more about it in his mind. He wondered if he should tell them the truth, as Jay just stared at the knife that was in his hands.

"You think? That's some magic that I should do some research on." Valor suddenly remembered the multiple magic books he got. He ran over to where he stashed them before running back with one of them.

"Hold up, I may have something for that. Back during the shopping spree, I bought these in case I wanted to learn other means of attacking since I don't have too many ways of attacking from afar." Valor brought out the book that he thought was close to the topic at hand.

"Can I borrow it?" Jay looked it over, still somewhat dazed, but still interested.

"If we study together while you explain it to me." Jay looked a bit annoyed, as he relented.

"Can you even learn magic, sorry let me rephrase, Can you use this type of magic?"

"Well I channel mana through a sword, so I imagine it's a similar principle but it will be pretty hard. I'll have to train even harder to figure it out."

Jay grabbed the book, "You see this? This is for necromancy, not even the basics. Just full on reviving the dead."

"Like Sing Gen Woo!" Valor suddenly felt a force hit the back of his head with intense strength.

"Wait, I thought that was the basics?!" Kai said, looking confused

"No necromancy isn't just raising people back to life, but also how conscious and strong the leftover souls are, but also speaking to the dead..

"Yeah, well it looks like we'll have to find a basics book then," Valor massaged the back of his head before looking at Kai and Leon.

"Can you even learn necromancy, Jay looked confused?"

"Hades is my god. He's the God of the Underworld, so he talks to souls and does all that stuff. I have a buffed proficiency for that kind of stuff, so I might be able to learn it quickly." Valor stated, as if it were common knowledge.

"I'm atheist," Jay said looking at him, "I don't exactly know what a god can do for you. Ask Daisy, she's better at this then I am."

"They give you boosts and sometimes skills. The more you offer to them, the more power you receive in turn since they're showing their gratitude." Leon explained a bit. Valor just sat and listened to the explanation.

"My talking to the dead is nonexistent, so we'll be learning this together. Besides even without any gods that you worship, you're really strong." Valor complimented.

"Well based on that explanation you need to talk it out with your god. I try to teach you what I know, but speaking to the dead is a difficult skill to learn." Jay said as he began looking through the books.

"Don't worry I can do it!" Valor smirked.
