His hands shivered like that a newborn doe. "I killed a man," blood crawled down his fingers and went under his nails, still warm even after death. "I killed a man," his eyes went blank, he looked at the sticky red in his hands, and his lips trembled. "I killed a man," Diego muttered and looked inside the cage.

"Get yourself together," Nibur huffed and rolled the body aside, and stood up. "Or we will be the one to go next."

His eyes turned blankly back to his hands. He took one and clutched his chest, trying to stop it from racing. "What the heck is this?" he could feel his heart thumping through his shirt and hitting his hands. "Am I. . . afraid?" It didn't feel like fear to him. Fear was when those monsters came. Fear was when he left his home and ran. Fear was when the whips hissed. This – was not fear, this was something more.
