Chapter 57: The Rising

Damien POV:

The past week with the twins had been a blur, but in the best way possible. Leslie and I had settled into a routine, if you could call it that—our nights blurred into days, feeding, changing, holding, and marveling at the tiny lives we created. Our son, with his mismatched eyes—one red, one golden—never ceased to amaze me. Our daughter, golden-eyed like her mother, had a quiet strength about her, something I knew would grow as she did. 

The pack had rallied around us. They celebrated the birth of the twins, even though I could feel their unease at times when they saw our son's unique eyes. But to me, he was perfect. The darkness that simmered beneath my surface, the very thing that made me who I was, had found its way into him. Yet, I didn't fear it. I'd protect him and his sister, no matter what. I swore that to myself every day.
