Chapter 35: Leon and David's Past
Leon and David were the core members of the team and kept an eye on the front. Sam and Trahso were support members and they were guarding the team's back from ambushes. Galena was in the middle as a team's and the village's only healer keeping her safe was very important.
At first, David objected to the idea of bringing her on this dangerous expedition but Galena insisted to come on this expedition and that her healing magic could play a significant role on this mission was undeniable, so everyone had to agree with her.
But David still insisted that she should return to the village, at that time, Leon convinced him and suggested putting Galena in the safest position in the team(middle) and if they encountered any monster that they couldn't handle then they would try to buy enough time for her to return safely.
He wanted to turn her down but in fact, Leon's idea was too good as if they pre-planned the answer in advance, he sighed and agreed with Leon's idea.
Leon was like a big brother to him, he was only 25 years old, only 3 years older than David, but the aura around him was like a man with tons of experience with life.
Although he had a kind and calm nature, anyone who had ill intention could easily feel threatened from his icy glazing stare just like Trahso.
Leon was able to control fire magic but to improve his skills he decided to learn sportsmanship too. The one who taught Leon how to wield the sword was David's father, as he was a very strong swordsman at that time. Leon started to train under him at the age of six.
David's father also forced David to practice with swords at an early age. David's father often used to make sword practice between the two of them and made a rule to never show mercy to your opponent in a fight even in a practice match.
Because of that rule, Leon became very ruthless during the sword practice and never showed any mercy to David at all.
After getting beaten every day by Leon David became very obsessed with the sword practice and started to practice day and night even in his free time so that he could beat him one day.
And after only 3 years of tough practice, his skills became equal to Leon and the practices between them started to get fiercer and fiercer. The villagers also started to come just to see their matches and soon they even started to bet on them.
Although Leon was ruthless during sword practice, he treated David like a little brother and always brought something to eat for him.
When David turned 8 years old, He finally defeated him in a sword practice, Leon felt that David's skills were improving rapidly and because of that he also extended his practice with the sword, however, he still got defeated by the kid who was 3 years younger than him.
David's dad was also dumbfounded, seeing Leon's defeat, but all of them knew that Leon did not get defeated because of his negligence or lack of practice. When David was 6, it revealed that he had the skill called swordmaster.
Because of this skill, his swings became stronger, faster, and intense, his understanding of swordsmanship also became profound.
Leon was happy for David but there was also a bitter feeling inside his heart, the efforts he put in practice every day with dedication got crushed with a single skill.
David's father guessed what Leon was thinking, he picked a small stem of the tree and challenged his son who was on a cloud nine. Seeing his dad was only fighting with a small and fragile tree stem, he accepted his dad's challenge thinking he may even defeat him too.
He ran towards him with his wooden sword and launched a powerful attack but his dad easily Dodged it and went behind him. Seeing his dad behind him, he got frustrated and tried to launch another attack but before he could do that his father gently swung the stem in his hand.
That gentle swung created a tremendous amount of wind which threw David a few meters and knocked him down on the ground.
Both Leon and David were shocked at how easily and effortlessly he defeated David. They asked him how did he do it, in which he replied that since he did not have a skill like David, he combined his wind magic with his sword skill and created a powerful skill.
He further said to achieve this, he had practiced many years whole wholeheartedly. He patted Leon and said that practice could help him to achieve many great things in life.
He patted David too and said him to never get too angry or arrogant, these two things will always lead you to your demise.
After saying this, he tickled his son to make the mood light and said with a smile that he shouldn't be get discouraged over defeat, he said that he would face tons of defeat in his life what matters is how he faces them. he could become a strong man just like his father. Hearing him David nodded and smiled.
When David turned 12, the village was raided by the herd of monsters, there were hundreds of monsters were attacking the village, and only four people were protecting the whole village.
The village chief's son earth magic-user(Level 6), Leon's father fire magic-user (Level 6), Galena's grandmother healing magic-user (Level 6), and David's father wind magic-user(Level 7).
That night a fierce battle was fought outside the village, hundreds of monsters attacked the village at once and tried to get inside the village but not even a single monster passed through the village gate.
By the dawn came everything became quiet, no one could hear the roar of monsters, when everyone went outside the village saw the horrible view, all surrounding were covered by the monster's corpses but the four heroes who saved the village were nowhere to be found.
After walking distance, they finally found four of them but what they found was their corpses which were covered in wounds and broken limbs. David's dad's right hand was torn but they didn't have to find it, because besides their corpse a large Ogre's corpse was littered. His heart was stabbed with the sword which probably caused his death.
The handle was still grabbed by a torn hand, that hand was David's father, the whole village was mourning their death. They could never repay them for what they did for them. After several days the villagers finally got rid of all the corpses of the monsters.
