Michael's P. O. V
After school ended, I wanted to run over to the patio, and iron things out with Diana and Pablo, they would have to convince me real good. All throughout today I kept on thinking of what exactly was her reason, or what could be the excuse she'd give.
Jake hadn't come close to me today, heard he and his girlfriend had a heated fight today, am guessing what it's about.
Ten minutes, my heart sank, who the fuck was I kidding anyways, I fell for this, she wasn't coming and a part of me suspected that.
I turned to leave but I heard a voice call out to me, my best friend's voice. I turned back around, calming my tensed nerves, to see him running to me, Diana slowly following behind.
"Am sorry that video happened and we have an explanation"Pablo said.
This should be good, I looked at him, the boy I grew up with, tossed the ball with, pestered Makela with, bought everything with, he knew my closet by heart.
He looked at Diana, she stepped forward and stood beside him, being awfully quiet, even for her.
"I have something I've been hiding from you, and it's killing me, I just have to say it. I know you might hate me if I say this. But the truth is..."
"We're a couple"Diana inserted quickly, and my heart sunk immediately. My brows dampened, I think I couldn't think I was staring at Pablo then Diana. He placed his arm around her waist and pulled her to himself.
She even planted a peck on his cheek!
"We tried to hide it, but we couldn't any longer...Mike I know that it wasn't right to leave you in the dark but..."
What the fuck does he think he's saying! Where was the explanation? Where was the truth? How can I have been so blind and naieve to believe they would say something and everything would become better again!
I can't do this! He can't fucking hurt me and my sister with just a confession, she can't hurt me like this when I've not even known her for up to a month!
I turned to leave, but Pablo held me back, "we need your help..."I pushed his hand aside, and kept on walking, till I was out of sight and started running.
I ran till I got to the gymnasium, I sat on the floor in frustration, I wanted to punch something or throw something. Everything was as it seemed, they were together and I was the fool, I'll have to commend her, she was able to fool me.
I heard some footsteps, I wanted them to be Diana and Pablo, running to tell me, it was all a prank and none of it was true, but it ended up being Josie. She blew her whistle and I stood up.
"In my office"she said.
*JOSIE'S OFFICE*
Josie's office always had this smell of whipped cream and coffee, a smell I got used to a lot. She sat down and crossed her legs over the table, she gestured me to sit on a stool opposite her desk.
Knowing Josie, I sat down and faced her, well, I stared at everything in her direction but her.
Diana must be kissing my best friend right about now, thankful about the fact that am no longer in the picture.
"Tyler, what's this am hearing about you being benched for two weeks?"she asked, not expecting an answer from me. This whole mess just drained me, more than I could tell.
"I was your year tutor last year and you had the best grades..."
"I still do"I said quickly, but she stared me down shutting my mouth.
"And the best relationship with teachers and students"she added to her previous statement.
"You had a clean record"she said, "but now, you skipped history class, benched a teammate, you're not in the goodbooks of your team, I hear the rumours, and you didn't listen to your coach"She said.
"Am not going to hold your hand and ask you how my scolding is making you feel, or ask if this affecting your psychology?Or tell you can come to me and talk about it..Don't come! Never!"she said and a small smile parted my lips for a few seconds. Josie always knew how to lighten the mood when things got too rough for me.
"But what I am gonna do, is take some action, you're gonna write an apology letter,to coach."she said, I nodded, that could be done.
"You're gonna do some voluntary work at the library after school, you'll be clearing up the books there"she said. I wanted to protest, but I decided not to, I inwardly sighed, then nodded.
"You're going to use your lunch hour to tutor Netwood in the library..."I cut her off almost immediately after she said that.
"Wait what!"I said, I did not sign up for that and I sure as hell am not doing that.
"Did you just say something. Hey! It sounded like the boy I saved from being benched the whole season is giving me sass on why he won't tutor his girlfriend"she said.
I got tongue tied when she said that, and bit my cheek, this whole situation was bullshit.
"You don't keep your relationships hidden much, but my concern is why her?"Josie asked, and relaxed into her chair, she picked up a book and pretended to flip through the pages.
"Why not! She's pretty and naieve, perfect don't you think?"I said, but she seemed unfazed, she dropped her legs and sat up straight.
"Your coach told me to get you out of that relationship, that you should get your priorities straight"she started, then placed her hand on her desk, resting on her desk.
"You know what I said? I said that your boy's found what's gonna make him a hundred times better"she said.
Hundred times better? I don't feel a hundred times better, I feel like I've been stabbed and run over a hundred times.
"I feel that both you and Netwood could help each other out"She said. "Am the one with the better grades"I sharply pointed out, letting her know what exactly she's talking about.
"But she's the one with the manners, and I should know, I made her a lapdog and she didn't seem to complain much. Even when I make her do some running around, she does it. I even left her at Samantha's mercy. She's the kind who suffers silently"Josie said.
"She's even a class rep, she's in all the teacher's good books, heard she got a play in her drama class, started, something that hasn't been done in a long while. And accomplishing all that along with stealing the heart of our school's quarterback...I'll give her some credit"Josie said.
Here I thought I'd escape hearing about her, am hearing more, could I just not hear anything more.
"I thought you two would get together...you do have stuff in common"Josie said. This was righteous...I have to hear this one. What could we both possibly share that would make us alike in some way.
"I don't know if she's told you this, but she only has one parent."Josie caught me off guard though with that one.
I didn't quite see her as someone with just one parent, thought she had that loving overly involved mom, who wants to meet all the friends she has. And that Dad who... come to think of it, did she actually seem like she had a dad?
"On her report, it only shows info on her mom, nothing on her father, maybe he's dead, maybe they separated but he isn't around. But she doesn't let that stop her from pushing forward. Here look at these"Josie said and tossed some folders to me.
"Those are all the schools she's been to, all good reports on her behavior! She has a clean record, I don't see any detention report, she's in so many clubs, does debates, science fair entries...her grades just need a little boosting up."Josie said.
I studied them too, she's been around, that much I can tell, three schools in two years? That's a lot of moving, and instead of making her feel welcomed, I made her feel fucking unwanted.
I made her become my play thing and my public girlfriend, meanwhile, she already liked someone. I came in between someone who made her feel welcomed and special, like a dickhead.
"Listen kid, being around her huge ball of positivy, can help you out much more than you know. And helping her focus more, could help her back in return. Coach wants good results from you while you're benched, he's only letting you play this game on Friday"Josie said.
"What about the play offs?"
I can't miss that! So many different important people will be there, I have to make an appearance.
"If you show coach you can change, then, fuck being on the bench"Josie said and I smiled. I still had a cool teacher who would swear when no one was around.
Maybe it was wrong for me to storm out on them, but I know that things haven't been made any easier for Diana, than they have been for me. But getting into the playoffs is important to me and keeping my best friend is also important.
This shit is gonna get real weird and real complicated right now.
