Chapter 57: Toad Sage Training
Fukasaku took us to where we were going to train, there was a small circle and multiple toad statues surrounding us, some toad statues were spilling what looks like toad oil, and there was a complete pool of it coming from the mouth of one statue.
"Is that you, Jiraiya?" A giant toad leaped from behind and greeted us.
"Bunta! It has been a long time, how's it hanging?"
Gamabunta ignored Jiraiya and looked at me, he tilted his head in confusion.
"Who's the Brat?" He asked.
"Hey! Who are you calling a brat?!" Ryuu said as he folded his fist.
"Jiraiya, is this one of your students?" He nodded.
"Gamabunta, this is Ryuu Uchiha. He's the son of Hanzo, remember him? We fought with him in the war." He stared at Ryuu…
"Oh, now I remember him, this is his son? I thought he'd be much older, the way that guy was talking about him and how he spoke about the sword he made."
Ryuu tilted his head in confusion.
Jiraiya shook his head.
"Unfortunately, he died, and I took his son as my student, he's talented, there's nothing he can't do."
"Is that so?" He nodded.
"Well, if you two are done catching up, I have to teach him sage mode now, are you ready?" Ryuu nodded.
"Wait, this little kid is here to learn sage mode?" I nodded.
"Isn't he a little too young for this?"
Pa struck him with his stick.
"What was that for?!"
"The geezer sage said he's the one true sage."
Gamabunta stared at Ryuu once again.
"Him?!" He asked and Fukasaku nodded.
"Well, I guess if the geezer sage is alright with it, there's no point in arguing, right?"
Fukusaku struck me with his cane.
"What are you doing just standing there, we have a long journey ahead?" I nodded.
"I know you can already sense nature energy so I'll apply just a little of this oil, its purpose is to help nature energy to come to you, for your case I'm not so sure what will happen if I apply the normal amount, you can already sense it and when I apply this oil, it should be able to allow you draw nature energy to you."
He took a small amount of oil and applied it to my hand.
"I can feel it, all that power."
Everyone's eyes were widening.
"I see…" Fukasaku said.
"What is it, boss?" Gamabunta asked.
"As you can see Ryuu can apply just a small amount of toad oil and he can already feel it coursing through him, this makes things easier because now I have to teach him is how to balance all that energy and focus less on how to gather it, in short, I don't have to worry about him turning into a frog or a stone, it appears that he can't."
Jiraiya's eyes widened.
"But how?" He asked.
"Honestly, it's kind of a mystery to me too, maybe the great sage told him something about it." Ryuu shook his head.
"All he mentioned is that prophecy and my flame."
"Your flame?" Fukusaku asked.
"Ryuu has this strange fire he calls Phoenix Flame it's so hot it burns through anything, it's pretty powerful, show him Ryuu." I nodded.
I activated Phoenix Flame on my other hand because I didn't know what the results would be, while my Phoenix Flame was on, Fukusaku's eyes widened as he stared into it.
"Ryuu, you're already a phenomenon as it is, and you don't even realize it." Ryuu scratched his head.
"Why's that?"
He jumped on top of Gamabunta and whispered something in his ear, Gamabunta was nodding, it looked like he was getting instructions.
"What's going on?" Ryuu asked, no one responded, I looked at Jiraiya and he shrugged his shoulders.
"Pa, aren't we going to continue our lesson?" He hopped back down and nodded.
"I just want to confirm something, that's all." Ryuu nodded.
"What are- "Ryuu was interrupted as Gamabunta splashed him with toad oil.
"Ryuu!" Jiraiya went to help him but was stopped by Fukasaku.
"Pa, what are you doing? He's going to turn into one of those creepy stone toads!"
Fukasaku shook his head, Ryuu wiped off everything.
"I don't get it, why am I not dead right now, how haven't I absorbed too much natural energy?" He asked as he stood up.
"Just as I expected, you don't have to train to balance all that energy because that fire that exists within you prevents any overflow in energy, it controls the energy within you." Ryuu tilted his head in confusion.
"What do you mean, pa?"
"That Phoenix Flame, is a type of energy itself, it's like natural energy and chakra, usually, a human handles two energies which are, mental and physical energy to create ninjutsu chakra but now you must add nature energy too and find balance with nature energy it's extremely difficult.
I'm sure you already know that but for you, it's different, the energy within you that creates or releases those flames help balance all of that, and it is also what helps your sensory abilities so much that they can sense nature energy, that's why I tried testing my theory by pouring all that toad oil on you, it's practically impossible for you to be overwhelmed by nature."
Everyone was shocked by what the sage had said.
"So with that being said, Jiraiya boy, go train your senjutsu elsewhere with the help of Gamabunta I'll train Ryuu."
He nodded and left.
"Now, lucky for you, you get to skip the first and easiest step now we can move on." I nodded as I followed him.
We reached someplace with spikes made of stone and on top of those spikes was a plank of wood.
"Boy, look here." He said while on top of the plank.
"The next step to learn is staying completely still, that's the only way you can enter sage mode, so come on."
I nodded.
"Multi-Shadow clone jutsu!" I created 4 more shadow clones to speed up my process.
"He uses shadow clones to speed up whatever he's learning, it's smart, especially for those who have enough chakra to do so."
Fukasaku said to himself.
He then climbed onto the spikes, I sat there; he closed his eyes to meditate.
It took a few tries to get the balance, but because I'm used to meditating by myself; it wasn't long until I got it.
After 2 days of no movement and meditation, I could feel the nature energy gathering within me.
"He's much better than anyone I've ever seen, is it natural talent?" Fukasaku said to himself.
When Ryuu opened his eyes were toad-like eyes: yellow irides, horizontal bar-like pupils, and reddish-orange pigmentation around the eyes; the mark of a true sage on each eye.
He felt multiple birds that had climbed onto him.
"Well done, boy," Fukasaku said.
"I can feel the energy flow through me, all that added power and I can sense so much further now I can't even imagine how much I'll be able to see with my Sharingan." He said as he jumped down from the plank, his durability had improved so he didn't feel any pain falling from that far.
"I'm sure you've improved greatly, but your lessons still haven't finished, you have one more step to go."
"That's right! Now I'm learning frog kata next, right?" He excitedly asked.
Fukasaku nodded.
"But first let's eat, I'm starving, I don't know how you aren't hungry, I'm sure ma has made some delicious food for us both."
Ryuu felt sick remembering the food ma gave him.
"I'm fine, I'll just have some food I brought with me." He said as he wiped the sweat from his forehead.
We left to go eat, Jiraiya and Gamabunta joined us, they had been training as well.
"Ryuu, you're a perfect sage?" I nodded.
"That's amazing, and it's barely been a week."
After eating we slept because the next day I was going to train in frog kata and learn more about senjutsu.
The next day reached, Ryuu woke up early and went to train by himself, he sat with his legs crossed and his arms out, when he opened his eyes, a red pigmentation appeared around his eyes and his pupils changed and became toad-like, he opened his Sharingan and they mixed but instead of his eyes becoming yellow and more toadlike they changed color and blended with the crimson color of his Sharingan.
"I've been trying to create this jutsu, but it was never getting the effect I needed."
He said to himself as he activated sage mode.
"This move will combine both Wind style and Fire style, I hope it works this time."
He stepped back and aimed at some rocks.
He inhaled a lot of air.
"Fire style giant Firestorm Jutsu!"
Ryuu released a large amount of Fire infused with wind, the flames spun around so fast then they became a giant firestorm; they were so hot not even the rocks made out of nature energy withstood, and the more they consumed the bigger it became, they even burned through the clouds.
"Shit, I might have gone a little overboard with that." He said.
"Water style water dragon jutsu!" Ryuu made a massive water dragon, and they didn't even scratch the giant firestorm he had created.
"This is not good."
"Water style water bullet jutsu!" Gamabunta shot out large amounts of water to the fire, but they did nothing as well.
"Kid, what kind of Jutsu is this?" He asked.
Ryuu slapped his forehead.
"I don't know why I didn't think of this first." Ryuu ran towards the fire and entered Phoenix Flame mode, he absorbed all the fire he had created and released it while getting out of Phoenix flame mode.
"Man, that was close."
Ryuu said as he wiped his sweat.
"What happened here?" Fukasaku asked.
"Well, I was trying this new jutsu I've been working on, I figured I could do it now that I have senjutsu, but I didn't know how to tame it and well, you know the rest."
Fukasaku's eyes widened.
"You idiot!" He smacked his head with a cane.
"You destroyed the entire field of rocks made with nature energy, this jutsu you made is easily an S-rank jutsu."
Ryuu widened his eyes.
"S-rank?" He nodded.
"Ryuu, be careful with that jutsu, you should only use it when surrounded by enemies and away from your comrades, it's too dangerous to be used." Ryuu nodded.
2 weeks had passed, and I had completed sage training and became a perfect sage, but I stayed in Mt. Myoboku, Fukusaku-sama had ideas for new ninjutsu.
