Chapter 190: The Chase
After around 30 minutes of being chased, Mizumine stopped running.
'I have to get rid of the Anbu quickly, they're being such pests!' Mizumine said to himself as he started running again.
While he was running, Mizumine removed something from his pocket and then spread it on the floor.
"Itachi, did you see that?"
"Yes, what was that? It had no color and no trace of it anywhere." Ryuu nodded.
"Possibly a trap, be careful."
"Right." Ryuu and Itachi followed Mizumine.
He runs into a small cave hoping to lose them in there, or possibly lure them into a trap.
"Itachi, you go above, I'll go inside."
Whoosh! Itachi obeys his orders and flickers above and he continued running while Ryuu was approaching Mizumine.
Ryuu activates his Sharingan and then follows him.
'Even with my Sharingan, it'll be difficult to keep up with his traps, he makes subtle changes in things and before you know it, you're caught in a trap.
That's why Itachi is here though, he'll see these changes quicker than I will.'
Ryuu stopped running.
"Changes like this one…" Ryuu noticed something reflecting on behind a rock.
Ryuu entered lightning chakra mode.
Boom!
The cave started collapsing while Ryuu was inside.
'There's no doubt about it, that's the captain. Only he can use the jutsu that triggered that trap.
In that case, I can't run anymore, can I?' Mizumine asked himself as he ran out of the cave.
Boom!!
A flash of lightning crashes through the cave…
"Change of plans, we kill him here," Ryuu told Itachi.
"So… it is you… Captain."
"What? You aren't happy to see me?" Ryuu removes his mask and jumps in front of him.
"Is there a chance you'll go easy on me?"
"I always go easy, unless I don't have to.
In that case, the question is. Is there a chance I won't go easy on you?"
Mizumine frowned.
"Why did you do it, Mizumine?"
"Do what?"
"Don't be a smartass, stop wasting time. We both know how this works, if you don't tell me, I'll just find out anyway, you know?"
Mizumine clenched his fist.
He was sweating not just from running, but from intimidation as well.
"We both know I'm not going down quietly."
"That's alright with me, I've been looking for a fight."
"Who else is here? Captain Kakashi or the crybaby, what was his name again?"
"Does he cry that much?"
"Of course he does."
Mizumine snaps his finger, recalling his name.
"Obito Uchiha, is he here?"
"I'm alone, no one is here with me, stop stalling. I know how you work."
"Meh, I guess you're right."
Mizumine makes a hand sign.
"Earth-style: mudslide!"
Boom! He punched the ground and a wave of dirt headed toward Ryuu.
Ryuu made a hand sign and slammed his hand on the ground.
"Purple lightning barrier!" A surge of purple lightning shot from Ryuu's body and made a net of electricity, which stopped the dirt.
"Tch! You're so annoying, captain…" Mizumine throws three Kunai toward Ryuu, while he runs toward him, holding a Katana.
"Tell me why, Mizumine! Why did you betray the leaf?!" Ryuu asked as he dodges the swings.
"Just shut up and die! What difference will it make?!"
"You fool! It makes a huge difference!"
Ryuu throws his kunai behind Mizumine and teleports behind him, driving spikes of Phoenix Flame through his legs.
"Argh!" Blood shot from his legs and dripped on the spikes.
"I won't kill you until I get my answers."
"Why does it matter to you so much?! I'm just another traitor, aren't I?:
"What do you gain from stealing documents from Konoha?"
Whoosh!
Itachi appeared beside Ryuu.
"Itachi Uchiha…" Mizumine muttered Itachi's name under his breath.
"I'm talking to you!" Ryuu grabbed his neck and started squeezing him.
'He won't speak… his will is too strong.
But I can shatter his will with this move.' Ryuu activates his Mangekyou Sharingan and looks Mizumine in his eyes, then makes a hand sign.
"Tsukuyomi."
Like a puppet with no strings, Mizumine stopped moving and drops dead.
Ryuu controlled the Phoenix Flame to disappear and then he let go of Mizumine.
"You know about my Mangekyou Sharingan…" Ryuu wipes the blood from his eyes.
"Let's talk later. For now, let's kill all those bandits Mizumine was dealing with."
Itachi nods and prioritizes the mission.
Ryuu used the transformation jutsu and changed his voice to be like Mizumine's.
"Once we get to them, gather them up in one place, I'll finish them with one move." Itachi nodded.
Even with all the questions he had, Itachi didn't hesitate to follow Ryuu. He couldn't risk compromising the mission.
Ryuu and Itachi ran after the bandits.
The bandits were in a quiet forest with tall trees which grew near a river that led to a waterfall.
Ryuu and Itachi arrived and spied on them from above.
They were growing anxious because Mizumine taking so long.
"What's taking him so long, he said he would've brought the money by now."
"Boss, why don't we sell these documents to someone else? We'll probably get paid better, too."
"No! That'll create problems, trust me.
We don't want problems, and if we bring documents from Konoha to someone else, Ryuu Uchiha will hunt us down.
Whether it's one by one or all at once.
This is our only chance."
"Boss, have you ever encountered him?"
"What kind of question is that? If I encountered Ryuu Uchiha, I wouldn't be here by now."
"Might I ask, if you've never encountered him all these years, how do you know the tales about him are real?
Dare I say, stories about him make no sense to me.
He sounds more like a myth than someone real."
The guy asking was a young man, it was no wonder he doubted Ryuu's existence, all his stories were fairytales for people his age, and people new to his occupation.
"Shhh… I heard something."
They all flicker away.
He heard footsteps from within the forest.
"Your people are sloppy, if the Anbu were onto me, you all would've been heard."
Mizumine walked out of the dark forest.
"Yeah, yeah, I got the documents, do you have the money?"
He held out the briefcase, and then he put it on the ground.
"I have traps all over this place, so don't try anything, or else I'll activate them."
"You already told me that, just shut up and give me the money!"
"Hmph…" Mizumine scoffed with a slight grin.
"Why so rude to a potential future client?"
"No way, I'm never coming back to Konohagakure after this.
This job was already hard enough, but now imagine how difficult it'll be with shinobi on our tail…"
"Indeed, that would be difficult, I guess." Someone brought the documents to the leader.
"Did you come here alone?" He asked.
"Quit the small talk." Mizumine kicked the suitcase toward the man's feet.
"A man of your word, huh?" Mizumine nodded.
"Documents, now."
"Hold on a second, let me count the money, just to confirm if it's all there."
He had a slight grin while counting the money with his fingers.
"Tch!" Mizumine clicked.
"Do I look like I have the time for this?!"
"It doesn't matter, I'm not taking a risk with this."
"Hmph, I knew you would do something like this." Mizumine's voice started changing.
"Transformation jutsu!" Ryuu releases the transformation jutsu.
"The Anbu black ops!" Ryuu smirks
"Run!"
Ryuu stood as they flickered away.
He calmly removes his mask and watched them run for their lives.
Ryuu's eyes shift to the Mangekyou Sharingan as he mutters,
"Amaterasu."
Whoosh…
A giant wall of Black flames spawned around them, burning everything it touches.
"Ha! You Anbu are overrated! You didn't even bother to search about us?! We're water-style users!"
He makes a hand sign.
"Water style: Water bullet jutsu!"
He shoots massive bullets of water towards the black flames but his eyes widened seeing the fire didn't even move.
Ryuu teleports above them and made a giant Rasengan and added wind release to it.
"Wind style: Rasen-Shuriken!"
Ryuu threw the Rasen-shuriken and teleported Itachi away.
Booom!!!
The black flames mix with the Rasen-shuriken and expand.
"Earth-style: multiple mud walls!" Ryuu created multiple giant walls around the area to stop the Amaterasu from spreading.
Ryuu wipes his eyes and put his mask back on and said,
"Great work, let's head back."
"I have the documents and money sealed."
Ryuu said before teleporting with Itachi back to Konoha.
It was already night. The darkness had settled in, and most people were asleep by now.
"Mission accomplished. Here are the documents." Ryuu unsealed the documents and gave them to Sakumo.
"Well done." Ryuu and Itachi nodded.
"We have something else." Ryuu unsealed the unconscious Mizumine.
"Mizumine?!"
"Yeah, it's him. He didn't die that day, he simply faked his death."
"I…
But why?"
"I'm hoping to find out from the man himself.
He's under a genjutsu, I'll remove it after two days and then we can know the full story…
If he recovers."
Sakumo carefully looks at Mizumine and asks,
"What kind of genjutsu does that to someone? He's in absolute shock."
Ryuu pointed at his eye and said,
"Mangekyou Sharingan."
"I see…
Anyway, well done, you've been dismissed.
There's a chance I'll have a mission for you later."
Ryuu nodded.
Ryuu and Itachi head to the changing rooms and change back into their normal clothes.
"Let's meet at that place, Itachi."
Itachi nodded.
After changing, they went to meet at their usual cliff…
Above Naka River, where Shisui died…
Ryuu finds Itachi sitting on the edge, he walks towards him while slurping on ramen.
"Sorry for making you wait, I was starving, so I had to go get some ramen.
Plus, I got this for you."
Ryuu handed Itachi five pieces of dango.
"Thanks."
Itachi finished eating one of them and then asked.
"So…
What is it you wanted to talk about?"
"Shisui… It's about Shisui."
