Chapter 95: Kakashi's new jutsu
"Yes, can I explain the mission now? We don't have that much time left, we're getting close to the border now."
He placed a map on a plank of wood.
"See, it's this line here, it shows where Iwagakure is currently invading the village hidden in the grass.
The enemy is shinobi from Iwagakure and according to Intel, they deployed a thousand shinobi to the front lines here."
He pointed at the map.
"They've advanced further than the last time," Obito stated.
"Well, the grass village is situated right next to the land of fire. We should've stepped in earlier." Kakashi added.
"If Iwagakure is able to invade like this, then it must mean that they have an efficient system for reinforcement."
Rin added.
"That's why our mission is this, the Kannabi bridge.
To crush your enemy at the front lines requires a large number of shinobi, right? Therefore, shinobi like us, whose focus is sabotage, are forced to work in a small efficient unit."
"The bridge, so our mission is infiltration," Ryuu added, and Minato nodded.
"Team Kakashi, your mission is to sneak behind the enemy and reach that bridge, once the three of you are there, you will destroy it to disrupt the enemy support operation. After that, you will promptly withdraw."
"Understood." They said while nodding.
"What about you and Ryuu?" Obito asked.
"We'll confront the enemy directly on the battlefield, that will create a diversion so that you'll do your job, now remember, Kakashi is your captain on this mission.
All five of us will travel to the border together, but once we get there, we'll split up for our missions."
They put their hands together.
"Right!"
They walked together into the forest.
'There are enemies nearby. Even Minato should feel them, but if he isn't saying anything, I'm guessing it's a test.'
Kakashi suddenly stopped walking.
An Iwa shinobi was watching them from above.
'They detected me, I'm impressed.'
He widened his eyes, and sweat was dripping from his head.
'No, it can't be! Not those two, I'll just observe from now.'
He said as he saw Ryuu and Minato.
"Twenty of them near us, but their mostly shadow clones, be on your guard."
Ryuu said.
"I agree, I'll attack, Ryuu will back me up," Kakashi said.
"Wait, don't be hasty, I'll go, you can cover me Kakashi," Minato said.
Kakashi started weaving hand signs.
"Minato, I'll cover him, if he fails it will be a lesson as a Jonin, don't forget, you are the one who put him as captain."
Ryuu added.
Kakashi smiled and nodded.
"I want to try this new jutsu I made." Lightning started building up in his hand and body.
'What's he doing?'
The Iwa shinobi asked as he watched him.
"Purple lightning!"
The sound of electricity echoed through the forest, and everyone looked at Kakashi.
'Woah, what is that jutsu?' Obito asked himself.
'Incredible chakra.' Rin said.
'Kakashi, you genius, you want to combine Purple lightning with lightning chakra mode.' Ryuu said as he realized what Kakashi was doing.
Minato tried blocking his way with his hand.
"No matter how many they are, I can take them with this one move, beside you said it yourself, right now, I'm the captain, not you. And the rules clearly state that the team must obey its captain's order sensei."
"Boom!"
Kakashi ran through the wooden log they were behind.
"I can't believe he'd try a frontal attack." The Iwa shinobi said as he threw Kunai at Kakashi.
Ryuu threw his own Kunai to deflect the ones towards Kakashi.
'Thanks to those Kunai attacks, I know exactly where he is, here I come.' Kakashi's Purple lightning destroyed everything in its way.
"He's fast." He said before being hit with the purple lightning.
*Poof!* he dispersed into a cloud of smoke.
"Huh, a shadow clone! Then onto the next one."
"Boom!" Another clone came from underneath to attack Obito but he quickly slashed it with a Kunai.
Many clones were exploding as Kakashi was hitting them with his purple lightning.
"Number 18." He ran towards the one in front of him.
"Don't push your luck Brat!" He tried cutting Kakashi, but Ryuu separated them before it got further.
'Lousy little Brat, just barely, but how the red-haired guy moved, there's no doubt it's him.'
"I marked him." Ryuu stared at the Iwa shinobi with his Sharingan on.
"Huh!" Ryuu disappeared into a flock of crows. "Genjutsu!"
Ryuu appeared behind him with his sword on his back.
"You're him, the demon who lays in the land of fire.
In the village hidden in the stones, they warned us that we must flee the very moment we caught sight of you and the yellow flash. Now I understand why."
Ryuu stabbed him.
Ryuu teleported back to the team where Kakashi was recovering his chakra.
"Kakashi ran out of chakra, we'll set up a camp," Minato said.
"I'm fine," Kakashi said.
"No, you aren't Kakashi, it's all because you ignored sensei's warnings and charged in there you fool," Obito said.
"I don't want to hear that from you, you the Uchiha elite, who always cried that if you got your Sharingan you'd keep up with me, then what happened? Where did it all go wrong?"
"That's quite enough, both of you."
Minato said.
"Kakashi, rules, and regulations are indeed important, but it doesn't mean that's all that matters. I told you, at times you must adapt and take steps appropriate to the situation at hand."
Kakashi frowned and dropped his head.
"Ha, see," Obito said.
"You're not blameless either Obito, it's fine to speak of self-control but not just in your words.
Now one more thing, Kakashi in my opinion you shouldn't use that jutsu of yours again.
From what I saw, you took an enormous risk trying to combine both of those moves and it ended up costing too much chakra, an unfinished jutsu is about as useful as none.
Now, before we part, let me say this one more time. For shinobi, the one thing above all else is teamwork." Minato said.
'Once we found a good place, I made a camp for us.'
"Wood style four-pillar home!"
A giant house made of wood appeared from the ground.
"We should get some sleep now, Ryuu and I will stay up to make sure no one attacks us."
"No need, I have a special seal that will wake us up as soon as it senses an enemy. Get some sleep, elder brother."
He nodded.
After that, they all went to sleep.
"Ryuu, wake up." Ryuu slowly got up.
"Obito? What is it?" He asked as he put on his shirt.
"Well, it's just that…"
He sat on Ryuu's bed.
"I know sensei means well by saying that teamwork is the most important but… Kakashi keeps belittling me, rubbing my nose at my lack of discipline, he even goes so far as to insult the clan.
I might have been born into the powerful Uchiha clan, but I'm still just a failure.
I admit that Kakashi is an awesome guy, but…"
Ryuu nodded.
"Well as you know, Kakashi and I have the same father, Sakumo Hatake, the genius ninja also known as The White Fang of the leaf, in his prime, even the legendary sannin paled in comparison, with having spent our childhoods beside a genius like him it's hardly a surprise how Kakashi sees other people even his teammates.
As you've noticed, I'm the only one who Kakashi rarely treats like that, especially people of his age, in his eyes, he holds such high standards for everyone."
"But Kakashi never mentions him, what does he have to do with anything?"
Obito asked.
"The White Fang, a great man that everyone looked up to, especially Kakashi, at least they did until that incident."
Obito's eyes widened.
"I remember." Ryuu nodded.
"Our father tried to take his own life after everyone vilified him, five years ago, he led a dangerous top-secret mission behind enemy lines, it went bad.
He had one of two choices: either save the mission or save his comrades.
Of course, according to the law of the village, you cannot abandon a mission.
But to save the life of his comrades, he put the mission on hold. However, a great deal of damage resulted in the end.
Both the land of fire and his pears blamed him for everything on top of all that, even the people he saved turned against him and looked at him in shame.
It took a toll on our father, physically and mentally he didn't and couldn't even leave the house even after I saved him.
Mentally, he didn't see a point in continuing to live, everything they taught him about the people he fought for was all a lie, so he took his own life.
I had to bring him back from the dead; I risked my life to save him even when he didn't want to be saved, but since then, Kakashi rarely speaks about our father.
Adding to that, the day I disappeared must have taken a huge toll on him, I can't imagine losing Kakashi, he's like my brother.
But after our father's suicide attempt, Kakashi has been strict with the rules and regulations to prevent what happened to Sakumo to happen to him too, it wasn't so bad when I left but I guess he went back to being like that while I was gone.
Obito, please try to understand, even just a little Kakashi means well, he'd never hurt any of his comrades and will always look for the best options for us, I know you two can be good friends, I've seen it happen before. I'm not asking you to put it all behind in one night, but I'm asking you to give him time, he'll realize your value soon,"
He slowly nodded.
After that, Obito went back to his room.
