Chapter 97: In-between This World And The Next
Meanwhile, Kakashi and Obito were fighting the Iwa shinobi...
"Pathetic, can't even handle two kids."
The Iwa shinobi said as he looked at Kakashi and Obito.
Obito used his Sharingan to look at Rin.
"Rin's chakra has been disturbed.
It's flowing in patterns different from yours and mine." He said to Kakashi.
"She's probably under a genjutsu, they didn't want to waste time getting information out of her." He Replied.
Kakashi had his right eye covered in a white bandage.
The Iwa shinobi smirked.
"Hmph, it seems that these two are more than just brats, after all."
He coldly said.
Kakashi grabbed the sword that Ryuu gave him and Obito took a Kunai.
"We fought earlier, he's quick, so be careful and I have little chakra left, I can't use lightning chakra mode," Kakashi said.
"Gotcha."
The Iwa shinobi rushed towards them, he had two long blades running down from his sleeves.
Kakashi lead the run.
"Whoosh!" The Iwa shinobi threw shurikens to distract him and went after Obito.
Obito attacked him high and Kakashi went low, the Iwa shinobi was fast enough to dodge and block them.
He attacked Obito, but he blocked so he attacked Kakashi but Kakashi barely dodged it and a slice of his hair fell.
Kakashi attacked him with his blade, he tried blocking him but his blades broke.
'Just what kind of blade is that?!'
He asked himself.
He quickly revealed another blade hidden inside his sleeve and continued to attack.
Obito would dodge his attacks every time and Kakashi would come and counter, he swung his two blades but got stopped by Obito, who used his legs to block his hands.
Kakashi slashed his shoulder, leaving a deep wound, and then stepped over his back, leaving him on the ground.
Kakashi and Obito ran to Rin and released her genjutsu.
She opened her eyes and looked at the two of them.
"Kakashi?"
"We came to save you, so don't worry, you're going to be just fine now."
Obito said.
"You're alright, let's get out of here," Kakashi said as he untied her.
They looked behind and saw that the Iwagakure stood up.
"You know, you two make a good team, but you're still just brats.
Remember, you're standing in the palm of your enemy now."
He waved hand signs.
"Earth-style: rock breaker!"
The ground started rumbling, and then the cave fell apart.
"This is bad! Run for the exit!"
Kakashi said.
The three of them started running out of the collapsing cave.
"Agh!" A rock hit Kakashi's eye.
"Kakashi!" Rin yelled.
Obito rushed towards him and tossed him away.
He looked up and noticed he didn't have enough time to run.
"Boom!" The cave collapsed…
"You guys alright?" A familiar voice greeted them.
"Ryuu!" They said his name excitedly.
The dust and rubble made it hard to see anything in there, but what happened, no one would miss it.
"What's wrong? You sound different."
Kakashi asked.
"Obito!" Hearing Rin shout Obito's name, he rushed towards his body.
The giant rock fell on his right side, making him unable to move.
"Obito!" Kakashi rushed to his aid.
"Kakashi, you and Rin need to go."
His eyes widened as he saw what happened to Ryuu.
"Ryuu, your legs! They're both crushed!"
Half of Ryuu's body was buried under a pile of rocks, they could see a pool of blood leaking from the rocks and he was bleeding from his mouth as he looked up.
Kakashi rushed to Ryuu's aid.
"You two need to get out of here, when I came back I tried saving Obito but I was too slow, my chakra was too little," Ryuu said.
"Can't you heal yourself?" Ryuu shook his head.
"Not this time, I'm sorry, Kakashi."
"Kakashi, I don't think I'm gonna make it. My right side is completely crushed, I don't even feel anything anymore." Obito said.
"No." Kakashi's voice was broken, he was breathing hard and Rin cried while she said his name.
"No, not like this, why?" She asked while tears flowed through her eyes.
Obito coughed out blood.
"Obito!"
she said as she saw his blood splashing and dripping from his mouth.
She closed her eyes and looked away.
Kakashi fell to his knees while crying.
"No. No!" Kakashi slammed his fist on the ground.
"I should've come with you from the start," Ryuu said as tears started flowing through his eyes, too.
"So what if I'm captain now? So what if I made jonin?!"
Kakashi stated as he cried.
"Oh, that's right, I totally forgot, I was the only one who didn't give you a gift…
for becoming a jonin and being named captain."
Kakashi's eyes widened as he looked at Obito.
"I thought about it, I didn't know what would be good, but I do now so don't worry, remember what you said before? I'm not going to give you something useless.
I'm giving you my… Sharingan."
Rin and Kakashi's eyes widened.
"Whatever the village may think, I think that you're a great jonin, it's true, that's how I really feel, please accept this.
Rin, please use your medical ninjutsu, and have my Sharingan, the whole eye transplanted to Kakashi's left eye."
She nodded.
"Kakashi, come quick, we have to do this now."
Rin said.
"I'm about to die, I'll be your eye to watch over what the future brings for you."
Rin perfectly transplanted Obito's eye into Kakashi's left eye.
"Kakashi." He looked back.
"Break a leg," Ryuu said with a smile and a small chuckle full of blood.
He nodded.
"Boom!" Kakashi opened up an enormous hole in the cave and leaped through it.
"Huh?" The Iwa shinobi was shocked to see him.
"Still alive, huh? Man, you're stubborn kid."
He stood up, ready to fight.
Kakashi's eyes were closed, and the wind was blowing his hair, but the shinobi could tell he was crying from the marks on his eye.
"What? Then you are just a brat.
A real shinobi doesn't cry, let's settle this, you big crybaby!"
He opened his eye and the two tomoe pattern appeared, shocking the Iwa shinobi.
'There's something different about him now.' He said to himself.
"Kakashi, take care of Rin," Obito said with his dying breath.
"I will." He took out Ryuu's blade and launched at the Shinobi.
Cling!
The impact of the blades clashing broke the Iwa shinobis blade.
Kakashi quickly countered and made hand signs and lightning chakra appeared on his hand.
He charged at the shinobi and stabbed him with Purple lightning.
Meanwhile, Rin, Ryuu, and Obito were still in the cave.
Kakashi brought the body over to Rin, Obito, and Ryuu.
Rin looked like she saw a ghost when she saw his body appear before Kakashi, she was told not to panic by Obito, then Kakashi dropped the body.
"Kakashi, take Rin and then get her away from here. Hurry, go now, enemy reinforcements are coming soon."
Rin said his name and tried to grab his hand once more.
"It's ok, just go." Kakashi put his hand out for her.
"Kakashi, I want you to become stronger, don't let our deaths hinder your progress as a shinobi, become stronger." He nodded.
"Earth-style: earthquake slam!" Multiple shinobi did the same jutsu making the ground begin to vibrate, and the ground began falling apart.
"Rin take my hand, now!" Kakashi said. She quickly took his hand, Obito, and Ryuu were covered in rocks and disappeared from their sight.
"Hey Ryuu, we're going to be alright, right?"
Ryuu frowned with a tear in his eye.
'I've failed.' Ryuu said to himself as he looked at Obito.
"Of course, we'll be alright." He tried forcing a smile, but Obito saw through it.
'Just when Kakashi and I started to get along. And I never got to tell Rin how I love her. I just wish that I could've spent more time with everyone.'
These were Obito's last words before the only thing they saw was darkness.
A few days after that…
Gasp!
Ryuu and Obito woke up.
Ryuu looked around and recognized where he was.
"Where is this?" Obito asked.
Ryuu turned his eyes towards Obito, who spoke to a shadowy figure in the background.
"In between this life and the next… young Uchiha."
'Those eyes, is he an Uchiha too?'
Obito asked himself.
"Wait, you said we're in between this life and the next, but where exactly are we?
It's so dark I can't see well."
"Obito." He turned around to see Ryuu.
"We aren't dead if that's what you think is happening."
A sigh of relief came from Obito.
"He patched us up and saved us from dying, but in return, we have to pay his debt." Madara nodded.
He walked back to his seat with his scythe dragging on the floor.
"Hey Gramps, you're a rogue ninja, aren't you? I know all the old geezers in Konoha, and I've never seen you before."
He sat down.
"I am an Uchiha ghost."
Obito's eyes widened.
"I'm Madara Uchiha."
"Madara? Madara Uchiha as in my ancestor?!
But Madara had to have died years ago! So what era are we talking about?!"
"So you're more likely to believe that I'm the grim reaper?
Well, I suppose that I am death… in a sense.
For this reality truly is hell."
Obito and Ryuu sat up.
"Oww!" Ryuu felt a sharp pain in his whole body.
"I'm going home." Obito threw himself to the ground and crawled with one arm.
"I wouldn't bother, there are no exits to this place neither you nor I can leave this place. With these bodies, at least."
"Ugh!" Obito was struggling to move.
"Obito, if you move the synthetic Hashirama cells, I went through all the trouble to attach to you will peel off.
Do you wish to die?"
Obito was still trying to crawl away.
"So you didn't attach the Hashirama cells inside me?" Ryuu asked.
"Your body rejected the Hashirama cells, and I didn't want to kill you, so instead I patched you up as much as I can, although I have to say, your cells are strange." Ryuu nodded.
"There are a lot of things I'd like you to do for me for the rest of our lives.
I went to great pains to save you, so don't rush to your death."
Ryuu activated his Mangekyou Sharingan.
He teleported Obito back to his bed.
"What are you doing? Don't you want to go back home?!" Ryuu nodded.
"Even if we go back home, what then? No one in Konoha knows how to fix what he has done to us, not even Tsunade-chan knows how to help us with the Hashirama cells in our bodies.
We're better off here, at least until we can move regularly."
Obito frowned.
"But what does a geezer like you want with Brats like us?!"
"To sever the fate of this world," Madara responded.
"A world of only victors. A world of only peace. A world of only love.
I shall create such a world."
"So what?! Who cares? I just want to go back to everyone!"
"I told you things don't go as planned, you'll eventually catch on too…
If you truly want to die so badly, go on, but I'll be taking your Sharingan."
"You already have a Sharingan of your own!" Obito replied.
"I'd like to have a few more in stock, I don't have a right eye, and only with two together can the Sharingan's true power be unleashed."
'Then that means if I pair up with Kakashi we'll both be even stronger and from now on we'll protect Rin together.'
Obito said to himself.
Ryuu closed his eyes and saw the floating flaming eye.
'Why won't you talk to me? Why did you only say my name when I got my Mangekyou Sharingan, huh?!
I see you every time I close my eyes and you still don't talk to me!'
Ryuu spoke to the burning eye.
He sighed.
"I failed." He mumbled.
