Chapter 44: Chapter 10: The Treasure of the Mountain

Lucy gripped the steering wheel of the Chevy, her eyes locked on the winding mountain road ahead. The snow had started falling harder now, thickening with each passing minute, covering the treacherous path in a fresh blanket of white. George sat beside her, his gaze scanning the road for any obstacles. Behind them, John, Raven, and the rest of the group followed in the other vehicles, all packed with supplies from the town below.

As they neared the top of the mountain, the narrow road twisted through the trees, winding upward toward the safety of the mansion. Everything seemed calm, the snow blanketing the forest in an eerie, peaceful silence. Then Lucy hit the brakes suddenly.

"Whoa!" she shouted, her voice cutting through the quiet.

George looked ahead, and his heart sank. A massive tree had fallen across the road, snow piling up on its wide branches. The entire path was blocked, and there was no way they were getting the vehicles through it.
