They finally arrived at the boss room.
"Ready?" Sky asked Jericho.
"Ready." Jericho felt nervous fighting a red-portal boss by themselves.
The door opened by itself after Sky confirmed they were entering the boss room.
Unlike the rest of the dungeon the boss room had no mud or fog. It was an ordinary but grand boss room made of marble.
In the middle of the room was the boss sleeping on the floor.

As its name suggests it's a giant crocodile, weighing hundreds of tons, and measuring at 19 ft long. It carried no weapons, or wore any armor either.

'Woah, 1,200 vigor!' Sky gasped. This was a red portal boss, what kind of stats does a red portal+ boss have?
There was a huge disparity between the green+ and red dungeons. What was worse is that this is not a difficult dungeon compared to other red dungeons.

Sky saw some alligators have the dash skill, but not the super dash skill. It can only mean one thing, this super dash skill was a better version of the dash skill. Not to mention that skill that negates 25% of all damage.
Sky knows just how overpowered that skill is, because he has a 10% damage negation skill.
"Whatever! Attack! Ice trident! Slowness!"

All nine birds charged at the giant alligator at once. But the giant alligator charged through the birds and towards Sky.

He couldn't throw another one as the alligator had already reached him. It was 40% slower yet it was still fast because of its skill and huge body.

Sky quickly ran to the side, which made the alligator charge at the door just barely missing Sky. At that moment Sky thought that it was best to climb on top of it.

The giant alligator ran away while jerking his body around. Violently moving his body made Sky nearly lose his grip, lost his ice trident, and killed some of his lightning birds when he swung his tail and head.
Sky knew if he loses his grip there is no way for him to win. But it was hard to stay on top of his body with the way he was moving. He couldn't even attack without losing his grip.

Sky saw how Jericho threw her daggers at the alligator and controlled them with her magnetism, each dealing 94 damage. She kept stabbing the alligator.

The bleed level on one of Jericho's daggers is 0. Some abilities cannot level up, especially the ones that are imbued in mana weapons, much like Sky's {triple water slice} that is in his trident, or his {super speed} which also can't level up.

While the alligator couldn't get Sky off of him he dashed straight at Jericho.
"Oh hell no!" Sky jumped off the alligator and used his telekinesis to lift Jericho.

Jericho found herself flying, and the alligator almost reached her with its large mouth.
With one hand he kept Jericho in the air. With the other Sky summoned another ice trident and threw it at the alligator.

Sky tried to run away, but it got to him with its large teeth.
The giant alligator, with its massive teeth, bit Sky on his torso, legs, and arm.
"AAAAAAHHHH!" Sky screamed in pain. He hasn't been in such pain before.
Jericho found herself falling on the ground and crashing down.

Before it could take another bite of him, Sky took out his living trident with his remaining hand and placed it inside the alligator's mouth.

The alligator felt something sharp in the inside of its mouth that kept it from closing it, but it didn't stop him from trying and nearly crushing the trident.

"ICE TRIDENT!" Sky needed to stab it with his ice trident a few more times to kill it.

The giant alligator felt intensely cold inside its mouth and found itself unable to move.
"FINALLY!" Sky stabbed it again, not even enjoying the fact that one of his level 9 skills finally leveled up.

The critical damage was too much for the boss that it flung Sky from its mouth to the other side of the room.
Sky fell to the ground taking some damage. He couldn't move at all, both legs were crushed, and his left arm was broken.

Sky threw the trident at the alligator but missed. It was on the other side, trying to spit out the broken pieces of trident stuck in his mouth and teeth.
Then 9 lightning birds flew towards the giant alligator. It swung its snout at the birds killing all but one.

The birds flew towards the giant alligator faster and fiercer than before. The alligator swung its tail but the birds dodged it.
The lightning birds used to have the appearance of a small bird. Now they looked majestic and strong.
They fired lightning bolts at it from a safer distance than before. Their ability to shock enemies increased both in range and damage.

Sky stood up feeling perfectly fine and ran straight towards Jericho.
"Jericho!" Sky checked up on her. Apart from a broken wrist and a sprained ankle she seemed fine.
"You did it, Sky." Jericho said. For a moment she thought they were both dead.
"Heal!"

Jericho didn't feel pain anymore from her wrist or ankle. She stood up by herself.
"You did good, Jericho."
"Thank you, but you did most of the work."
"Still… anyways, we should leave this dump. After I receive the rewards."
"Aye, captain. I'm just gonna rest on the hard, cold, floor." Jericho plopped to the ground facing up. She was so tired.
A chest appeared in the middle of the room. Sky opened the chest to collect the loot.

It's a skill Sky has seen a few times. He ripped the green scroll to learn its skill.

Sky could somewhat make out the words. For some reason, he couldn't read if the scroll said Int or Mind, which didn't make sense because if it were a green scroll with the same words, he would've been able to understand it.
Sky was starting to understand why that is, because the system has its limits.
For example: If he were to use an ordinary sword that does 50 damage, he will only damage enemies by 50. But if he were to have 1,000 stat points added to either his Str or Dex stat he will still only do 50 damage if he uses the same sword.
It seems that the system has many benefits, but some limitations as well, however many can agree that the benefits far outweigh the cons.
Sky ripped the red scroll.

Sky was happy to receive more Int stat points. Mind is a great stat that recovers mana every minute, but in this battle it didn't help him recover mana because the fight ended in less than a minute. It does however allow him to think faster.

The sweater had a blue and purple color to it with black, long sleeves. It was light to the touch. Sky had never seen such a design before.

Sky wore the sweater on top of his shirt, but it slipped off his torso since he didn't meet the level requirements, something he already expected to happen.
"Just one more level and a bit more exp to lvl 100." Sky placed the sweater in his inventory then checked the other item he received.
Sky wanted to cry to see such an amazing item but not being able to wear it because his level was one level too low, a common situation many gamers can relate to.

The boots had the design of a blue beetle. Sky felt a little creeped out by its design.

Stamina is not a function that shows like the HP or mana bars. It's more of a hidden stat that increases with vigor.
Sky compared the item with his shoes he was wearing.

It's the reason why he placed his remaining 4 stat points into Int.
"Come on, Jericho, let's get out of this dump before it collapses on us in like nine minutes."
"Yeyyyyyyyyy…" Jericho stood up and left the dungeon with Sky.
Once they left the boss room they saw the entire dungeon's fog was gone.
"THANK GOD!" Sky couldn't help but yell when he saw that the fog was gone. Jericho was too tired to care. Lazily, she held onto Sky's shirt and was closing her eyes as she followed Sky.
When they returned to the merchant the building was gone as well.
Finally, they made it out of the dungeon.
Both of them fell face flat on the deck of the ship. Jericho didn't want to sleep on her bed because she didn't want to dirty it with mud.
"Jericho, just for today you can rest."
"Wayyyy ahead of you. Zzzzz…"
Sky didn't feel tired after leveling up anymore. But after arriving back to his ship he felt like he wanted to be lazy for one day. The problem was they had less than two weeks before they fail the warlord mission, if they fail it something horrible will happen.
'No, I can't rest until I kill the Warlord.'
Sky opened his map, and clicked on a green+ portal that was a bit far.

They manage to barely beat a red dungeon, a rare phenomenon that only occurs in the Land of the Free once every month or two.
Sky benefited a lot from the red portal, new powerful items, new skills, meeting the system's merchant, evolving a skill and reaching a skill to max level, getting two red scrolls one which was for Jericho and received a huge boost in mana.
Sky now realized that he just needed to keep spamming his skills to either evolve them or having them reach max level, it just took so much effort that he almost thought skills don't go over level 9.
"Jericho, head to the captain's quarters. It's gonna be a bit loud here."
"Okay…" Jericho woke up, dragged her tired body to her room. She plopped on the ground, and with her foot she closed the door.
"Summon lightning eagles." Sky said.

"Oh, I was just trying to level up the lightning eagle's level, but I'll take that. Okay, attack me like always." Sky took off his shirt.
One of his eagles shot a lightning bolt at him, it was definitely stronger than before.

Sky couldn't move his body at all or even breathe, it was a feeling he had once as a kid when he got paralyzed after touching a poisonous fish by accident. At the time his mom was quick to react and gave him the antidote.
After ten seconds he could move again. He breathed heavily for a while.
"I hate that feeling. Heal." Sky touched his shoulder to heal himself.

After fourty long minutes Sky made it to the new dungeon.

Sky was surprised that the lightning eagle skill leveled up that quickly after evolving it. If it was his lightning bird skill instead he would've leveled it up to level three or level four, this meant that the lightning eagle skill would be harder to level up compared to lightning bird.

Sky entered the portal. He could sense Jericho, and she was heavily asleep.
"I did tell her to take a break for today. Eagles, protect the ship and Jericho at all costs."
The eagles stood around the ship to protect it from invaders.
Sky jumped down his ship. He could already sense dozens of bamboo's waiting to be killed by him, involuntarily of course.
"Ice trident!" Sky charged directly at the dungeon and cleared it in record time.
At first there was the sound of bamboo's crying, followed by an eerie silence. In ten minutes Sky returned to the ship satisfied with his rewards.

Reading the description it was clear to Sky he should eat it. Throwing away the candle, he wolfed down the cupcake.
'Wow, that is delicious!' Sky has never had something as sweet or as delicious.

"That's nice... but THIS is what I wanted most." Sky took off his boots and put on his new items. He was expecting to take off his 'strongman's shirt' to activate the thunderstorm sweater, he was glad to be wrong because it meant he could wear the shirt and sweater and have both of their benefits at the same time.
