Chapter 6: Chapter 6 - Getting Stronger

After the whole day of search and just before the sunset, Kyle found a cave that seemed to be uninhabited.

The main reason for that was most likely the holes in the floor and ceiling that leaked cold air at night, and water. That, on the other hand, didn't really bother Kyle, he had to learn how to use this system to survive, and he had to do it now. Also, the back of the cave had an arid* area where he could set everything up.

The first thing Kyle did was to start setting up traps and alarms. If anyone got into the cave from the front he would know straight away. He also stuffed leaves and branches that he found nearby into the holes as to better insolate the cave.

Next thing was fire. Kyle has never, even in his wildest dreams imagined that he needed the skill of making fire. He always lived in the city, and that skill was useless. Now though the wind was getting cooler and cooler and he would get ill if he didn't light up a bonfire. Also, he knew from novels that animals feared fire and that would help him protect himself.

After setting everything up and spending around 2 hours hitting rocks with each other next to the dry twig, he managed to produce the spark and lit the fire. His hands were bloodied and blue from the freezing air. As soon as he managed to lit the fire, he put all off the branches onto the top and went to sleep on the dry twigs that he put around the cave.

The night was scary, with many beasts coming out to hunt during the night. The howls and the noises of hunting were all around the forest. Kyle, on the other hand, slept like a baby. It seemed that the transformation really did take a toll on him.

Once Kyle woke up, he saw that the fire was still going strong and that his second pile of branches that he collected yesterday, to use for another day was burning as well.

'I thought the system said that I had increased luck! So is this the infamous negative stat bug?' Kyle got up and went closer to the first bonfire.

As soon as he got close a 3 notifications appeared:

[ Do you want to absorb? ]

'Those must be some insects and bugs that were cooked and killed together with the branches. That is good to know that I don't have to be the sole killer in order to be able to collect the energy.

Kyle clicked [Yes] 3 times not really understanding what he was absorbing.

The first and second grey energy was the same as the one from the bunny, although a little less; it streaked into his bone and was flying around in his dantian. All of the 3 energies combined into 1 small bud that started rotating faster.

Kyle already wanted to start meditating, just like he saw in the animes and novels about cultivation. But then suddenly red energy started flowing into his body, it was domineering, too domineering. Kyle got hot at first, and it felt nice, but after all of the energy went into his body, he couldn't bear the heating up process, and he dropped to the ground screaming in agony and clenching his head.

After what felt like an eternity to Kyle, the heating up stoped and in his dantian next to the 3 energy streaks, a red flame was dancing around. The flame felt very immature and even juvenile. It danced around his dantian while really enjoying himself.

Kyle was sweating, and his whole body was hurting, he also really wanted to drink water as he totally forgot about it the day before. Plus the consumption of that flame energy dehydrated him.

'I have to sort this out straight away, the world is too dangerous out there,' Kyle sat down and started to imitate cultivators from his memory when they meditated. He suddenly felt it. He felt like his mind was sinking on another consciousness level, and after around 30 minutes of constant mind absence, he was finally able to feel some higher presence inside of him.

Once Kyle touched onto this realm, everything suddenly changed. There was a sudden flash of light which caused him to open his eyes because of the radiance. He was now in the space that was only white. There was nothing else, white floor and unlimited space of nothingness.

Once he adjusted to the brightness, he was able to finally see an interface right in front of him.

[ Do you accept the inheritance of Live? ]

[ Yes ]

If this is the only lucky opportunity I get, I have to seek it!' Kyle, without the hesitation, hit the Yes.

The key appeared from the sky, and it was dropping very fast straight at Kyle, the key wasn't that big, and once he tried to grab it with his hand, it went through it, the key went into his body and into his dantian.

Kyle focused on what that key was doing, and he suddenly heard and felt the door opening noise. At the same time, his body felt extremely light, and his head emotions were like a clean lake, lacking any negatives.

Together with the key, a book dropped following it. As the book dropped and stopped right in front of Kyle, it started flipping the pages by itself, and some unknown energy started going into Kyle's head. He could feel that some ancient and unknown knowledge was being transferred to him. This caused a splitting pain, and he had to somehow endure it to not blank out.

After all of the book's information got transferred, the world disappeared, and Kyle found himself sitting at the same cave that he was in.

But, once he tried to feel his dantian, he couldn't believe himself, there was a large whirlpool swimming around that had grey and red energy swirling inside. That whirlpool flashed from time to time, still absorbing some energy that was left inside his body.

Kyle got the feeling of immediate danger from it. It was very tyrannical.

[You have to feed this whirlpool energy, or otherwise, it will start taking your life energy to power itself]

'What?! Okay, I have to do it fast! I don't want this lucky encounter to take my life!' Kyle knew that no good thing came without the challenges.

Kyle Started putting leaves up to hide the cave entrance so that when he comes later to sleep here, he won't find any beasts inside. Also, he set up even more traps.

One of the things that he worked for a bit yesterday was some wooden stick the size of an arm that he sharpened on both ends, it looked similar to a cave person mace. This was Kyle weapon, the sword that he wanted to get ever since he fought with that bunny.

He got everything in order and set to the lake that he saw in the long-distance inside the forest.

It was time to drink water and feed the whirlpool inside of him with energy.

The system that was a constant part of Kyle's struggles didn't respond to any of his probings. It only showed notifications and displayed interface if Kyle met special requirements it magically placed upon some of the things. In reality, there should have been a tutorial, but the specific circumstances at which Kyle got transported into this world made it so the system was different from others. Kyle was sure of it.

Arid* - Very dry

Chapter 7: Chapter 7 - Beast fight

Kyle has finally decided to move out of his cave. The whirlpool inside of him was rotating slower and slower and which each rotation he could feel that it was very slowly peeling off his insides energy. He had to do something fast. Otherwise, his lucky discovery would be his demise.

Kyle, with the weapon in his hand, ran toward his goal, the lake that was a drinking hole for the whole forest. Kyle knew that there were beats there, and he could get the energy needed, as well as test his new strength.

The path leading to the lake was quite dangerous with snakes and other beasts lying in wait.

Kyle knew that and was very vigilant, and as he expected while he was running and jumped over a tree root, a snake pounced on him. Kyle was already mid-air, and so he couldn't dodge. He punched out in the direction of the snake. He could feel the power behind that strike.

Once the fist and the snake collided, Kyle didn't feel any pain or numbness. His fist smashed the skull as well as the brain and teeth of the snake straight away. Kyle absorbed the energy from the dead snake, midair, and felt that whirlpool was only starting to rotate even faster, asking for more and more energy. This time was critical for Kyle; he had to take every advantage that he could get.

On the way to the Lake, he has already killed 2 snakes, a crow, and a rabbit that attacked him. It seemed as though this beasts knew where he was even before he came into their vision. As if something was attracting them.

Once he arrived close to the lake, bigger beasts, that he hasn't faced yet in this world started appearing.

The first one was a lone wolf that was limping. 'It seemed that it was hurt. This is my chance to test my strength against a real enemy. The energy a wolf should have should be plenty.' But before Kyle could make his move first, the wolf turned and with the roar attacked Kyle. The sudden turn was not expected, and the only choice Kyle had was to dodge.

Even though Kyle tried twisting and turning, in the end, he still got 2 deep claw marks on his shoulder. 'This was a close one. I have to be more decisive in my movements. I have to kill if I want to survive.'

Kyle rushed to the wolf with his wooden sword in his hands, stabbing straight at its head. The wolfs legs seemed to be even more weakened after the initial attack. It must have put all of its energy into that blow. Kyles sword went into the body of the wolf, and as soon as he was sure that it was inside, he turned the handle, ripping to pieces and arteries and organs that the sword touched. Doing this, made the hit deadly for the wolf. The sword broke down, and something that Kyle was going to be using for a while actually was completely useless even after a small fight with an already wounded enemy, 'I need to get a good weapon as soon as possible.'

That meant that the wolf got killed and Kyle could breathe out. Wolf become grey energy that entered into the whirlpool, now the core of it was the size of the large rice grain. Also on the spot where the wolfs body was, large wolfs fang was lying. This was very surprising to Kyle as he didn't remember any of the teeth breaking off, or Kyle hitting its head. Even if he did, usually, the whole body, with all of its parts, disappeared.

Kyle picked it up and put it into the jeans pocket as he had no backpack or anything yet. Suddenly he got a notification in front of him.

[ Would you like to combine items? ]

[Yes]

Kyle didn't see any use for the fang at the moment and whatever it wanted to combine it with shouldn't make his situation any worse. Kyle felt like his pocket got very hot with stabbing pain coming from it, and later small energy from his whirlpool sunk into the fang.

After all has finished, he inspected the results and was deeply surprised. The small purple crystal that he got from the bunny that he fought straight after arriving into this world, was now on the fang and was embedded into the handle of the fang. Also, the pocket from the jeans got converted into the denim and behaved as the handle cover. The tip of the fang was red with blood tear embedded onto the middle. This was amazing, just as his weapon got broken down, he got an opportunity to get something that he would never be able to get by himself.

'The system finally has mercy on me; maybe it is not totally useless.' Kyle grabbed the dagger in one hand and rushed further to the lake. The whirlpool did not stop in the slightest, and Kyle knew that it wanted to get as much energy as possible.

As he progressed closer, the enemies got progressively more difficult, as if those that are closer to the water have earned their right to live there.

It started with antelopes, then elks and then boars.

Antelopes and elks mostly run away from him too fast for him to catch up, but the boar as soon as it saw Kyle went into the frenzy charge straight away. That was very scary, to say the least. Beasts were of course not as intelligent as humans, and it was much easier to trick the, but beasts had a huge advantage from their lack of intelligence. Hyper-focused reflexes and genes inherited from their ancestors. How to fight and how to defend themselves was in their blood when they got born. It was as if they trained for 100 years straight.

After the first initial charge got dodged by Kyle, the boar used the terrain, to change directions much faster with smashing into the tree at a specific angle to attack in the faster rhythm.

'Boars are nothing like harmless bacon I imagined them to be, what a scary beast.' Kyle clicked his tongue, this was draining too much energy from him. He needed to finish this fast.

Kyle wasn't able to attack it while dodging so he decided to be a little smarter, he positioned himself just in front of the tree and bated the charge straight at him. At the last minute, he dodged the charge, and the boar smashed its head into the tree. The momentary stop was enough for Kyle to use the dagger to stab right into the body of the boar.

What followed was unbelievable for Kyle. Instead of a usual stab and turn that Kyle wanted to do, the dagger cut straight through the boar with all the insides spilling out, killing the boar with a simple slice. 'This was definitely not because of my strength. What in the world have a created?' Kyle looked at the dagger with a question in his mind.

The grey energy from the boar was intensive, it flowed right into Kyles body, feeling all of the absorbed energy inside going straight to the whirlpool. As Kyle was about to relax he felt a powerful sucking force from the whirlpool and the rice grain inside of him pulsated, sucking everything that whirlpool has accumulated into it, turning grey energy into its own power and increasing in size to the size of a small pea. The whirlpool, now without any energy started ripping parts of the flesh from inside Kyle, causing incredible pain and unbearable throbbing for him to sustain.

His whole body was in pain, the muscles, the head, the legs. Everything was hurting so much that Kyle dropped onto the ground and couldn't move. He could feel his muscles bulging and his body becoming stronger. 'I have to keep moving if I want to survive. That whirlpool is going to kill me otherwise.'

'I thought if I provided it with more energy, it will fill itself and stop doing that, but it only got worse. I don't know how to stop it, but it clearly needs more energy. I will just have to kill more beasts.' Kyle clenched the dagger in his hand even stronger and rushed further to the lake.
