His apartment was a mess, like a cat and a dog without any food were living in it alone for a month. Everything was ruined. His dear PC that he built with the latest specs was torn apart, and his 4k 180HZ monitor had a keyboard struck through it.
Kyle dropped to his knees and raised his hands while crying. "What the hell! I was going to pay back for this PC from gold farming and boosting others. How am I gonna payback for it now! I am screwed!" His hands held up high, had a mouse in one hand and a headset in the other.
—
It was March the 1st now, and the whole month went to finding extra work and begging to extend his loans. The police investigation also didn't reveal anything.
Of course, everything went to shi$, his normal and relaxing life was ruined. No more gaming, no more 9-5. Kyle had to work part-time during the night every day, even on weekends.
What he hated the most now, was his trips where he was left alone with his thoughts. He tried to distract himself with music or some videos somehow, but nothing helped. The worst thing was that he didn't know how to get back on track.
His has broke ties with his family when he went to work alone in the big city, and now they didn't answer his phone. His friends have all either were completely useless pieces of shi# or didn't want to do anything with him.
The company that he bought the PC from didn't want to hear anything. They made a full blowout complaint to the police about a customer that didn't want to pay for the computer he bought. He had a court hearing in 2 weeks. He was going to lose it 100% as he had no money for a lawyer. Most likely, he would be forced to take an unfair lawn that would make him a slave forever.
Everything that he was aspiring for, everything that he looked forward to, everything was going against him.
Even his apartment was ruined. His bed was cut into 4 parts, and he had to put the same boxes that he delivered that faithful night just to hold the bed together.
He was riding the bus to his second job, and it felt like he didn't want to live anymore. He had no money to live off. Everything was going to paying the landlord to repair the apartment, as his deposit had no way to cover that. The last scraps that were left went paying for the PC.
The bus smelled awful, and he wanted to puke every time he rode one.
He had no idea what happened on February 1st, but he was determined that he had to find out. The police officers that came due to screams said that they saw similar scenes all over the town. Destroyed apartments and sometimes even explosions. He was the only one that survived inside while this phenomenon happened. Everybody else went missing.
Kyle hated this situation, 'If only someone in the house saw me talking to miss Anya. Police are so useless… Even the video that I showed them did nothing. They said that I faked it just to get the blame onto a poor girl that also went missing.' Kyle had the only thought in his head nowadays. What the hell happened that day.
'Maybe I can ask around again. Hopefully, Miss Anya can come back from her trip soon. She must have heard something just before she went away.' Kyle kept on pondering.
This was the moment when it hit him. Miss Anya. The boxes. Don't open before you come back into the apartment. The alarm on Anya's phone. The sudden music from the hall.
'No, no way. It was some kind of grenade or something. If it was in the box, then I shouldn't have survived. No, no way, no.' Kyle's eyes became twice as large.
This was too unbelievable to even think about. He simply couldn't believe that it was possible. 'I was supposed to die, wasn't I? Did Miss Anya got paid to assassinate me?'
'If this is true, I can't go back to work. I need to go home right now. I need to check. I have to get to the bottom of this.' Kyle started panicky pressing the stop button on the bus to stop, and ran to the doors. The stop was far away from his home, but he had to get as fast as possible. The only way was to run straight home.
—
Kyle stormed into his apartment, frantically throwing away the part of the bed to get to one of the boxes. He opened one, and it had some normal things that he would expect for safekeeping. He had to be extra careful if there were any more explosives in the boxes.
A photo camera, a video camera, a bunch of electronics that seemed brand new. A watches box and some large jewellery boxes. 'What the hell Miss Anya was doing in this dumpster here if she was this rich. She could have sold this and bought a luxury and new apartment.'
Kyle put the first box at the side and started opening the second box. It was a bit lighter. When he opened the box, he couldn't believe his eyes. It was full of dollar banknotes, all 100$ and neatly stacked into packs. It seemed that they have been out of the bank just recently. The note was on top, saying -
"Kyle, I know that you think you don't know me that well, but by taking this box, you have helped me more than you can imagine. This is my gift for you as I will never need this anymore. this world doesn't matter to me, and if, after opening the blue box, you decide to stay here, I hope that this can help you with having an easy and relaxing life." The letter was very neatly written by pen, and there seemed to be some teardrops at the bottom.
The first thought on Kyle's mind was that finally, he would be able to pay back and actually go back to his enjoyable life of playing games and being happy with all that money. He wouldn't even need to go to a 9-5 job anymore!
'I still don't get it. Why would she give me so much money? I was a no-one to her. What the hell is in that third box.'
Kyle reached to get the third, blue box. It was heavy. Too heavy for its size and appearance. He wanted to open it just like he did with others. He got the kitchen knife that he always used to open deliveries, but as soon as he reached to slice the box open, as the knife touched the box. The same music started playing. The same music that he heard on February the 1st, at 00:00. His heart seemingly stopped. He couldn't breathe, he couldn't do anything.
The only though that was on his mind - 'Please, please kill me this time, don't ruin the paint on the walls, I have worked for 3 weeks to pay for that.'
With that thought, his mind went black again.
I hope that you understand Kyle just a little bit better. What is coming up is very exciting.
Kyle opened his eyes, and his head was hurting from the pain. So much that he couldn't understand what was happening straight away.
'So is this it? I am just dead? What type of explosive was it…' Kyle tried opening his eyes, but it was too blindingly white.
'I am still able to move in the afterworld then. I wonder what happens to humans when we die. At least I will be able to answer that question now...'
His eyes adjusted to the brightness, and he was able to understand that he was standing on some see-through glass with clouds all around him. The room seemed to be endless, but some white panels and interfaces were hovering around him.
Kyle didn't understand anything, but this seemed like a scene from the Animes that he watched. He was at some sort of hub that people get transferred to in-between the worlds. He tried going to check if the floating interfaces had anything, but they were blank.
As soon as Kyle touched one of them, the whole room transformed, and a sudden and melodic voice has been heard from behind him.
"Good day to you! Welcome to the new world of Game to Live.." Halfway through the sentence, this flying thing looked at Kyle with a raised eyebrow.
"Why are you here? You don't have an identification tag. Who gave you the pass?" Burked this flying adorable cat, now in a much more serious tone.
"I was given a box to safe keep from my neighbour, Miss Anya. She said that there was a description of where she was going and I could choose whenever I want to take the trip or not" Kyle said everything as it was.
"An evangelist recruited him the first time I see this," murmured cat yo itself. "Wait here. I need to check something first." as soon as that was said, everything went back to normal, and the cat disappeared.
'Okay, so this is either another world or some type of hallucination that I am going through. This is linked to the box and Miss Anya for sure, but I can't understand why I am here.' Kyle paced back and forth next to the UIs*.
After around 10 minutes(Kyles watch disappeared once he came here), the cat appeared again. Did it seem… scared?
"I am terribly sorry, Sir Kyle, I was not informed, oh who you are. It just seems that you are a month late. That is why this has happened" this creature suddenly meowed, and the scene changed. They were at the royal palace now with everything impeded in gold and diamonds.
"Let me start over, I am Catter, and I am the managing agent between the Earth and world -- Game of the god to Live." Catter proudly grinned. "The new world where anyone truly has unlimited potential, not some smart trick god of your world used. Unlimited brainpower, my ass… Either way, you were scouted by one of the angels. This allows you to get 2 benefits. First, you can choose whenever you want to stay here after I explain where we are. And second, you will get a random skill. You will realise how great of a gift it is later!"
"So would you mind explaining what this "Game to Live" thing is?" Kyle looked around, "Also, you said that I could choose if I want to come back or not. Does it mean that I am not dead back on earth?"
Catter looked surprised, "Dead? Of course not. But… we have been taking a lot of people from your world, so if you come back, your God might want to bring you for questioning. I will give you a talisman to protect you if you decide to come back," Catter smirked, "Now, let me finally tell me where we are. I will first tell you what I tell everyone and then later, only what scouted ones can get to know.
"You are in the newly created world called "Game". It's 100 times as big as earth right now, and the world is not spherical and more like a map that you earthlings use. The most different thing is that it has just finished its growing period and has stopped at being one of the largest worlds out there." Catter laughed once she saw a face full of astonishment of Kyle.
'Is this for real? Such a world really can exist?' Thought to himself Kyle, this was a little too hard to believe.
"Yes, it is for real. And yes, I can read your thoughts" Catter smirked. "Well, anyhow, your world is not the only one that gets a chance to come to the Game. There are many worlds. Those that pleaded for a saviour or those that got a lucky chance to get a pass all have a chance to get here. Goblins, Trolls, Elves, Elfs, and even Crabs and Rocks. You name it. Every single creature can get a chance to live in the Game.
"The main point of this world is to create a fair world to grow in. This world has an infinite amount of opportunities that are hidden as well as providing a new stable platform for new races and beings to emerge. Every single creature will be given some benefits. Some will get more benefits than others, and that is natural. Luck plays a huge role in this world." Catter paused, "This is all that normal transfer can get to know. Now, because you were recruited, you are eligible to hear private information."
"There is more?! Wait, let me try to think about it for a minute!" Kyle crouched down and started processing how the hell does he fit into this. It all sounded amazing. Exactly like in his games. But if there were so many creatures in this world, it was going to be just like in Seoul or New York. People live on top of each other there, and they don't hesitate to destroy others for status and money.
'It is going to be same, but probably even worse here,' though Kyle, 'there are no laws here, I am sure, it will most likely be a bloodbath here. The world is 100x bigger, but there are so many races and so many opportunities. I don't know if I want to be a part of this.' Kyle liked this whole idea of a new world and running away from all of the useless people and problems he had back on earth.
'Also, I just got a huge amount of money, jewellery and watches I could sell and enjoy a carefree life until I die. I can play games, finally, meet a nice girl and be happy' the world back on earth seemed too nice to throw out for the unknown. Plus, for all I know, I could be dreaming right now.
Kyle's head started hurting from just thinking about this.
'Okay, let's just consider this to be the real deal and that I am actually given an opportunity to change the world.' Kyle decided that it will be better this way.
"Please go on, Cator." Said Kyle.
"It's Cattor, meow, god damn it!" Suddenly the voice coming out from the cat became deep and angry.
The power that Kyle felt from the voice was so much that he stumbled a couple of steps back from the fear.
"Ahem, anyways. Usually, anything in the different worlds that can think and feel emotions can train themselves and ascend their genes, body and mind unlimitedly. The only thing stopping them are rules governing the worlds as well as their personal laziness. Gods that create and govern worlds were the same beings that once trained very hard to ascend to their levels." Catter spoke in a profound voice, "Also, Gods are not all equal. Some of them are just ascended Gods, while others have already ascended above Godhood. When that happens, a student of God takes over the old world and a new, better world gets created for the God to rule with his new powers."
Catter stopped and looked very pleased, "Our world is 1 of 10000 best worlds, a 3rd level world that will be able to produce at least 10 gods in the future!"
Kyle's head started hurting. This was too much information to digest again. Gods, angels, levels, worlds. Everything seemed so unbelievable and too complicated for him to change his core belief system from earth to this new one.
'How am I supposed to get my head around this. I wish I didn't choose to listen to this private information.' Kyle gave up on this episode of thoughts and decided to not bother with this and just play along.
"So! What is your decision? Do you want to challenge the path of becoming a god? You, as a scouted one, will waste away in your world. Your god doesn't let anyone train and become strong enough to challenge him. You are much better off in this world," Catter demanded the answer, and it seemed that he didn't want to hear a 'no'.
"I can't say yes or no just yet. I am sorry. I need to really consider it. You are asking me to switch worlds for god sake." Kyle closed his eyes and started thinking.
