After destroying all the branches, they killed more than a thousand Martial Kings and a hundred Martial Emperors from all their branches. They did not really care about the twenty thousand Martial Lords or even more below that level as he considered them as experience points. 

He could trap more than half of them if he played the card right. Meanwhile, Song Yu force could at least hold half of their force while his Spirits would go rampage with the other half. After giving the last blow, they could then rout the Joyful Union Sect.
