Chapter 68: The Colony of Renewal

Dominic began sending collection missions to special zones where he had resources via cargo helicopters to speed things up. Tons of food, weapons, and tools were being stored in the massive cargo ships parked at the controlled coasts.

They estimated they still had at least a few more weeks before Los Angeles would be bombed, giving them many more possibilities than they currently had.

Firstly, all collection points were being exported to the ships, so they'd have a single general base in the future on the island.

Everyone also knew about the expanding cultivation areas, and it was just a matter of time before everything was up and running. Dominic still had no plans to mobilize all the people in the provisional shelter because they would lose a lot of vegetable food.

While Antonio's groups gathered supplies in the unlooted supermarkets, Daniel's group handled security to ensure nothing went wrong.

Dominic, on the other hand, was with Stuart, who located the abandoned and infected bases to exploit all their resources and remaining personnel.

The main problem was the fuel for the helicopters, which had been constantly in use since chaos erupted. Despite having dozens of tanker trucks, a helicopter would use at least twenty gallons of gasoline per hour, and the more demanding ones, like cargo helicopters, would use much more.

For now, this problem was solved when they took control of several helicopter platforms, but it would persist, and they needed to find a solution so that this problem wouldn't exist in the future.

But for now, they were recruiting all the remaining soldiers from other bases and many deserters who had gone in search of their families.

"Zz... Descending, please clear the landing area."

Three helicopters filled with soldiers descended on one of the largest bases on the coasts, and after landing, Stuart approached the young soldier who was giving a military salute.

"Who's in charge?" Stuart asked, looking at the young soldier, who seemed to have enlisted less than a year ago.

"Sir, the Major of this base shot himself in the head."

Stuart looked at the soldier's name and asked, "Daniel, are you in charge?"

"Many have deserted, sir; there's no one in command." Daniel shook his head as new soldiers arrived at this base.

Stuart understood; this base apparently wasn't evacuated because many deserted, leaving the younger ones without knowing what to do in this situation.

"I'm Major Stuart; I'll take control of this base, so gather everyone for an emergency evacuation. Tell them to prepare the amphibious landing craft and get ready to take all the Humvees, tanks, and all missile-launching vehicles from this base."

When Stuart ordered this, his men started moving, and all the soldiers, numbering no more than three hundred, formed up to receive orders.

Dominic, who was in the warehouses, found many military vehicles, and the problem with all this was that all these should be mobilized to the island, which should be under construction in the next few days.

All these military bases were well-equipped, as there were even drones in them, vehicles equipped to control them, and numerous tanks that would be a headache to mobilize.

But they couldn't leave any of this to those who might be their enemies; the creation of the CRM didn't happen overnight but took its time.

"Everyone's in motion; the people who will help us load everything onto the cargo ships are on their way." Stuart knew the importance of what he was doing, so he said nothing more.

Dominic nodded, looked at all those ships being loaded with Humvees, and said, "Today we'll start moving to the island; we have to start reforming it if we want it to be optimal for our future operations."

"Antonio is working on it with the construction team; the machines have been loaded and are just waiting for orders." Stuart responded, watching as trucks were loaded with boxes of cartridges and weapons of all types.

Dominic nodded, didn't mention anything else, and walked away to make sure everything was fine and nothing was being overlooked.

This was the third base they planned to leave without resources; they had focused on the larger ones to plunder, and the others would simply take the essentials like machine guns, ammunition, and food.

The number of survivors in Dominic's group had increased exponentially, but none of this worried him because Santa Catalina Island could easily accommodate thousands of people and had suitable terrain for reconstruction.

"There are five AC-130 planes in this base; with these, we'll have a total of forty of these planes at our disposal. The pilots are here, and their families were fortunately found." Dominic thought while he did the math.

Everything could be kept in order because there was a clear leadership structure; the leaders cared for their soldiers, and the civilians who were taken care of cared for those who protected them.

By maintaining this understanding and communication, there was no dissatisfaction; everyone was in motion, and no one was being fed for free.

When Dominic brought this up, everyone knew that as long as they fulfilled their respective jobs, there was no dissatisfaction among their soldiers.

"Now we just have to take the planes and complete the move." Dominic thought as he watched the ships being loaded with materials of all kinds.
