In the morning, many of the soldiers had stayed awake, keeping watch for the anticipated arrival of help. They had been anxious since yesterday and genuinely hoped someone would come to their rescue.
By the window of a building where the soldiers were stationed, Jeremy held binoculars, surveying the situation outside. There was no doubt that the condition of the military base was extremely dire. If the helicopters coming to their aid saw this situation, they would likely retreat.
Originally, everyone was very nervous about whether help would actually arrive, but they all insisted on trusting and waiting without asking many questions. It was not good to get their hopes up or to speculate too much before the appointed time.
They had lost contact with other military bases, so now this was all they had. The walkers had invaded, making it impossible to contain the infection, and afterward, the breach created by the walkers led to the complete collapse of the base.
"Do you really think there is still a world to return to after leaving this place?"
Jeremy, who was about to rest, heard the question from the person who had approached him and turned his head to see that it was Eric Bana, who had been arguing with everyone yesterday. "First, we need to find out if there is actually someone capable of getting us out of here."
"Do you think they won't?"
"Do you really think they won't?" Jeremy looked at Eric with some surprise. If he remembered correctly, this man beside him had been one of the most inspirational, but now it seemed his thoughts were a bit disordered.
"With all those walkers, it's difficult. If we don't clear the area before help arrives, it would be impossible for anyone to risk landing." Eric didn't want to say much about what he was seeing.
"This is…"
Seeing Jeremy's helpless expression, Eric wanted to say something, but just as he was about to speak, a voice came over the radio, and the sound of more than one helicopter could be heard in the distance.
"Zz... This is the New Dawn Unification Eagle; we are approaching your base. Do not do anything but wait for a team to contact you."
"Help is coming!"
While the soldiers were excited, three helicopters were slowly descending on the military base, where they hoped to obtain the most resources.
...
"The breach has been located. First, we will lure the walkers to the center of the main square so that we can move them slowly and wait for the squad to be deployed."
"Zz... Roger, we are descending onto a building to maintain the security of the operation. We will be on the ground in a minute."
At this moment, after giving the orders, a Ch-47 Chinook helicopter diverged from the original trio to implement the containment operation for survivors and seal the breach in the military base that had already been identified by Dominic's group.
"Now!"
When the order was issued, the helicopter deployed about seven ropes, and soldiers equipped with combat suits descended from the sky, positioning themselves on top of a warehouse while deploying and covering all the surroundings to prevent attacks.
In total, only thirty soldiers descended for this mission, and after a few minutes, the helicopter joined the other two to attract all the walkers to the base. It could be said that the noise of the helicopter and its low-altitude flight attracted the walkers from the surroundings.
This method of luring the horde of walkers away from the base has been frequently used in Atlanta to drive away the walker hordes. It could have even been used in the prison, but at that time, no one wanted to take risks, aside from the fact that the horde was in a large forest.
"All right, we have one minute to take control of the survivors and ensure they don't cause any problems!" The captain of the Bravo squad, one of the ten that had been deployed, stood in front of the soldiers and informed them in detail while the walkers were being drawn away by the helicopters.
"Arturo, I need you to take five men and seal the breach with the trucks you find on this base. I don't care about the damn magic you'll have to do to achieve that."
"Understood, sir."
The orders were clear: they needed to have the trucks at the base's breach while also securing the survivors to prevent any problems. After all, this was a military base, and it had everything you could imagine, so Dominic didn't want any surprises with this group of survivors.
After the majority of the walkers were driven outside, the Bravo squad and their captain, Stuart, secured some ropes to a support and quickly descended to carry out the mission.
As expected, some walkers, dumber than usual, did not follow the horde and had to be eliminated by Ian's squad. Raising the barrel of his scar, silenced shots were aimed at the heads of numerous walkers approaching the group.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
"Area clear, moving towards the objectives." After everyone descended, they split into two groups. The first group, led by Arturo, was responsible for sealing the exterior of the base, while the other was led by the Bravo squad's captain.
"Be quick and precise. If any soldiers dare disobey orders, don't hesitate to kill them!"
Stuart didn't want to make any mistakes. His group, after all, was trained to kill first and ask questions later. Considering their objective, they moved silently towards the building where the survivors had been identified.
"Don't waste time with the walkers; move forward and don't lose time."
With Stuart's shout, a squad of twenty heavily armed soldiers, equipped in all black with masks on their faces, surrounded a building, and then a soldier shouted, "Open the door now!"
The people inside seemed uncertain about what was happening outside, so an unarmed man approached the door and opened it from the inside.
"Are you military?" The soldier wasn't sure who these heavily armed people were, so that question slipped out unconsciously.
"Move to the wall and don't ask questions, now!" Two soldiers from the Bravo squad lowered their weapons, pushed the soldier against a wall, stripped him of his pistol, and then pushed him inside where the soldiers and civilians were supposed to be.
One group stayed outside, while another entered to resolve the issues inside the building. Stuart walked unconcerned about any damage, and once he entered the warehouse, he saw a large number of people, including military personnel, holding their rifles high.
"Put your weapons on the ground; that's an order!" When Ian shouted this, Bravo Squad soldiers moved to the sides and aimed at the soldiers who had raised their weapons.
"Wait, wait, please, we are military. Which division do you belong to, and why are you pointing weapons at us?" Ben Miller asked, and seeing no response, he added, "I am Colonel Ben Miller..."
"I know who the hell you are, old man. My commander's orders are strict. None of you are currently authorized to have weapons in your hands. If you disobey orders, all your men will be eliminated."
When Ben Miller heard these words, he felt a chill run through his body. It was evident that these soldiers were not ordinary, so he signaled his men to lower their weapons.
In a few seconds, all the soldiers pushed their weapons towards Bravo squad soldiers, and then Stuart advanced and removed his helmet. "I am Captain Stuart of the New Dawn Unification. We belong to an organization created by the army, which maintains the safety of hundreds of thousands of people in northern Canada. Right now, you are safe. Our people have driven all the walkers away from this base to the exterior."
When Ben saw the initial tension ease, he smiled with relief and gave a military salute. "Pleasure to meet you, Captain. I look forward to meeting your commander."
