Chapter 12: A Job Opportunity?

"My father asked me to get weapons, including plenty of ammunition and the best products available. Also, tactical gear for a group of at least fifty people." Dominic, besides requesting this, mentioned the importance of the weapons being of the highest quality, and he also asked for some heavy machine guns.

Antonio remained silent as they headed to Dominic's house. He didn't know what Dominic's father was involved in, but if Dominic himself asked for all this, he must know whether he needed help or not. "Wait a minute, how much budget do you have?"

"Three million dollars in gold. Half of the merchandise will be sent to the house, and the other half will be sent to a special address I'll send you later." Dominic responded as if all of this had been planned in advance.

"Do you know why your father needs so many weapons?" Antonio was still very confused, so before knowing the truth, he needed an answer.

Dominic expected this. Antonio wasn't someone easily influenced by words, so he had prepared an answer for this question in advance and said, "He has a Colombian friend who asked my father for help in financing a guerrilla to eliminate a drug cartel that has been affecting the country and that the government avoids eliminating due to the benefits both groups share."

"Oh, your father must owe his life to that Colombian to finance a battle that isn't even in his own country. Well, I'll send everything you've asked for to the house tonight, and the rest will be moved to the point you'll send me. When do I pick up the money?" Antonio asked, completely satisfied after this.

"I'll give it to you as soon as we get home. Also, I want to give you something special as a thank you." Dominic, who saw the workers at home, sighed in relief and quickly headed inside his house without paying attention to anything else.

When he returned, Antonio was outside the truck looking at all the strange renovations, so he said, "What's all this junk?"

"Some special renovations for the days to come. You'll know when you see the content of this USB drive." Dominic, besides preparing himself, had created a series of files warning about an alleged biological weapon in the hands of terrorists.

What is the purpose of this?

At least to warn his loved ones, like his uncle, who had been helping him since he could remember, explain to his girlfriend what he would be doing during this time, and if he had the chance, at least do something useful with that information.

"What is this?" Antonio asked, slightly confused yet in a serious tone.

"My father managed to steal some files in his last job, which is why he hasn't returned from work where he has been these last months. I'm sharing this information that he uploaded to our cloud storage with the purpose of getting you ready... As you can see, I'm also doing this on orders once again from my father." Dominic said it with a smile as he returned home.

"Did your father tell you to give it to me?" Antonio asked one last question.

Dominic looked at his uncle and said, "Yes, uncle, take care, and it's better if you take seriously what's in that USB drive. Don't show it to anyone else, as it would really be a problem."

"Alright, Dominic. You don't have to tell me twice. I'll prepare the things your dad asked for; I'll send half of them here, and the other half will be sent as soon as you give me the delivery point."

When Dominic saw his uncle Antonio leaving, he sighed. There was no better way to get weapons than with his uncle, so after having solved the issue of illegal weapons, he started walking home to move on to the next thing.

Now he needed food, and it was urgent. He had to make sure that before it got dark, most of the house was filled with food that he would later move to his secret place, which was the basement located under the house. Looking closely at the structure of the house, he would need to build areas to reinforce the windows and doors that really needed a lot of improvement.

Just as Dominic was looking at many possible improvements, a voice with a slightly strange accent called out to him, "Excuse me, are you Dominic?"

Turning around, Dominic saw a worker with a safety helmet and nodded. "Yes, I'm Dominic. Is there a problem?"

"Not really; we just have doubts about whether to expand the space by removing decorations in the back of the house. Also, do you need us to start the demolition right away?" The worker asked a bit puzzled; the house was nice, and there was nothing wrong with the structures.

"Oh, don't worry, I also need you to make some kind of barrier on the windows to make access difficult." Dominic nodded and pointed out some other things he wanted in his house.

"By the way, do you have any workers who can help me move some things out of the house? I need a certain hand inside. Of course, everyone will be generously paid for this."

"Yes, Carlos and Rodrigo will help you." The worker said this and shouted loudly before two Latino men approached.

"The gentleman needs help inside the house; you can assist him and come back when you're done with that."

"Yes, understood!"

Dominic nodded and walked inside the house, then said, "I need you to clear the living room and take out unnecessary things from inside. I need a lot of space since I'll be getting a lot of things by mail throughout the day. The more space you can make, the better. Also, if a delivery person arrives, make sure to bring everything inside the house, as I fear it might get stolen."

Dominic knew how common it was for items to be stolen when left outside the house, so he emphasized what he needed from now on and pointed out, "In the kitchen, I'll need you to take out the chairs and tables, bookshelves, and anything that might get in the way later. I'll take care of putting away whatever I can after the day ends; you just need to focus on creating space."

"What if we break something?" The worker asked, slightly concerned.

"Don't worry, I'll take full responsibility for that... Just don't touch the appliances, the big sofas, and the cabinets that I can use as storage. Make space, take out what you think is in the way, and then bring in whatever arrives at this house."

Having said that, Dominic walked to the entrance of his room and made sure to close all the doors as he took out his cellphone to dial a specific number. "Hello, yes, I'm the one who made the reservation for the trucks... Mmm, alright, I'll need two drivers for today."

When Dominic ended the call, he rubbed his head wearily and felt a strong headache. He hadn't slept properly for a long time, but this wasn't just a sleep issue; it was also due to the pressure weighing on his body.

"Sir, the things you mentioned are arriving, and there are a lot of them. Should we place them in the center of the living room?" A worker asked attentively.

"Yes, if you can place the boxes against the walls and along the house, that would be much better. I'd like to leave the living room for other things I'll bring later. There are some open rooms, so you can take out everything inside them regardless of whether something breaks." Dominic had stored away the important things beforehand, so he didn't mind if something got stolen.

After getting ready, he brewed a strong cup of coffee and said, "If you need a drink, the fridge is stocked with cold water, sodas, and beers... You can take whatever you want and share it with others. I'll be away for a few hours; if there's any problem, you can call me, and I'll come back immediately."

"Thank you very much, boss. We'll make sure to do everything as you instructed."

Dominic nodded and walked towards the exit. Today, he needed to buy a lot of things at a supermarket to have at least some extra food in case things got out of control later.

In just a few hours, the surroundings of the house were rapidly transforming, and hundreds of boxes were being brought down by the deliverymen.

One of them said, "I'll need the buyer's signature. Are you in contact with your father?"

"Oh, I ordered it for him. Will my signature suffice?" Dominic asked as he watched two small trucks approaching in the distance.

"Yes, your signature will do."

Dominic, who quickly did everything he needed before leaving, sighed tiredly and muttered, "I'm going crazy."
