Chapter 5: Plan
When she left, Cynthia Shannon didn't take anything with her, but inexplicably took the man's suit jacket.
She limped along the street, the brilliant sun shining overhead, but she still felt cold. She took out her phone and dialed a number. "Lily, can you come to pick me up?"
Twenty minutes later, Lily Jonas parked her red racecar in front of Cynthia.
She looked at the white bandage on Cynthia's leg, took off her sunglasses, and a strong sense of worry lingered in her brows and eyes. "Baby, what happened to you?!"
"Lily, can you let me stay with you for a while?" Cynthia said weakly, leaning tiredly against the seat. In a flat tone, she recounted the events between her and Joe Louise, speaking as if she was telling someone else's story.
"That Louise Family is a bunch of fools! Who is Naomi Sweeney? Does she even deserve to be mentioned with you?!" Perhaps due to overwhelming anger, the speed of Lily's car unknowingly increased, while her mouth kept going like a machine gun. "If it weren't for you all these years, what makes Joe Louise think that his meager abilities can get him to his current position? Does he rely on his blindness and deafness like an idiot?! They have taken advantage of you, both openly and secretly, over the years! The moment Naomi Sweeney returned, he kicked you aside without hesitation. The Louise Family truly exemplifies shamelessness to the extreme."
Cynthia spoke flatly, "Lily, a life with parents' love and a happy marriage ending doesn't seem to belong to me."
Lily suddenly thought of Cynthia's childhood experiences, and her brows barely perceptibly furrowed, with a trace of heartache flickered in her eyes. "Baby, don't be sad."
"Since I've already known that it doesn't belong to me, I won't ask for it anymore, and I won't be sad about it." Cynthia weakly pulled at her lips, slowly closing her eyes. "I'm tired, I wanna sleep for a while."
Lily keenly noticed something unusual about Cynthia Shannon. Her palm touched her hot skin and she secretly cursed, swiftly turning the car around and rushing to the hospital.
Along the way, she mentally berated the entire Louise Family, including their ancestors.
Back when the Louise Corporation was struggling on the edge of San Heith, if it weren't for Cynthia's advice and help, what qualifications did Joe Louise have to become the current rising star of San Heith?!
They treated her like a treasure when she had value to them, but the moment Naomi Sweeney, that little bitch, returned, they kicked Cynthia out in a hurry!
They mistook a fish eye for a pearl. Without Cynthia, she wanted to see how long the Louise Corporation could continue to thrive.
As the high fever gradually subsided, Cynthia woke up lying on a hospital bed.
What met her eyes was a completely white hospital room, and the smell of disinfectant in the air made her frown in disgust.
Her consciousness slowly returned, and she instinctively looked around. Her gaze fell upon a figure sitting by the bed.
She was taken aback, her hands on the bed tightened, and she hoarsely called out, "Uncle..."
"How do you feel?" Henry Quinn stood up, naturally placing his palm on Cynthia's forehead. Not sensing anything abnormal, he secretly breathed a sigh of relief. He poured a glass of warm water and handed it to Cynthia. "Are you still uncomfortable?"
Cynthia shook her head quickly.
"Lily told me about your situation." Henry looked at Cynthia's pale and tired face, feeling both heartache and anger deep inside.
Heartache for Cynthia's experience, anger at the actions of the Louise Family.
He took a deep breath, suppressing the anger swirling in his chest. "What are your plans from now on?"
