Chapter 3: City of Sumhail
A male youth is waiting outside a 10 meter tall gate along with a crowd of people falling in line of two.
There were four guards on the entrance and were meticulously checking each and everyone who might be suspiscious. Two of them were securing the gate from any intruder.
While just beside the door,two other guards were sitting in front of a long table checking everyones documents and identities.
After Mikhael arrived at Sumhail port in early morning, he went directly to the city's entrance but never thought that there will be a long line of people wanting to enter like himself.
There are six entrance to Sumhail city and one is located near the port. To those who have visited the place before, they don't need to wait like what he is doing at the moment since they got themselves registered and had an identity card given by the city guards official itself.
If Mikhael wished to enter, he needs to fill up the registration form and preeent some proof of identity.
It's the first time he will be on this city and he must have an identification card. Every city and big towns have this sort of rule decreed by the Huldwick Empire itself to avoid espionage from the neighboring empires and Big clans and limiting warfare brought by the eight regions itself. Nobody wants to have their herds be stolen right in front of their eyes.
After the great war 7 years ago a great number of population from the continent of Daftil plummeted.
Mikhael don't know how much blood was spilled but he knows that it is terrifying to count a huge number of lifeless bodies, so he never cared except for the people on his village in the past.
Two years after the catastrophe started it ended silently without knowing who is the winner. Majority people of Huldwick empire said they won the war, others said they lost for multiple of reasons.
Everyone could tell that they paid a great price.
Almost all the resources of the empire was spent to protect its subject and is even recovering at the moment after 5 years of peace. How much more to say on the other empires and neighboring continents.
"Next!" shouted by a sitting guard on the left side of the gates entrance. There was a long table and a bundle of paper lying on top of it.
After waiting until mid afternoon it was finally his turn. Mikhael walked out in front and at his back were the line of people as he went to the registration table.
He looked at the guard and handed his proof of identity while the guard scrutinize him after receiving the documents.
"Stand here" the guard pointed out.
Mikhael went to the location he was asked and stand properly.
"Go ahead and state your purpose"he continued.
"Khael of the Lusyere family, 14 years age, my reason of visiting this city is the Aztec school, I'm applying to become the school's Apprentice" Mikhael replied.
The guard official was not surprised at all. After he saw the documents of the kid and his age, he knew that Mikhael will enroll in the famous school of their city.
Every neighboring town and village near Sumhail sends their kids to participate, the prestige built from being a practitioner from a famous school is much more enticing than being rich in their own places.
Of course everyone knew that 'you can have the worlds riches if you the strength to get it'.
Yearly, countless kids were trying their luck to be accepted by the school but only few hundreds are chosen.
"As part of my jobs as an official i'll tell you that the school exam will be held three days from now. Ready or not you must be early as there will be thousands like you who wanted to be recognized by our city's school. The event will be held at the plaza, you can ask the people inside once you have settled the city's fee." uttered by the guard after handling an identification card and a stamped document.
Next!!" the guard shouted.
Mikhael paid the entrance fee of 1 lumina stone at the other guard sitting at the opposite side of the one who questioned him.
After that he went through the entrance and show his new identity card to the other official who is guarding the gate. The guard verified his identity and said coldly "Welcome to the city of Sumhail, you must ensure to follow the rules written on the document at all times, defying the rules given by the city will be met with sanctions or even punishment! You may now Enter".
"Yes" He said to confirm.
He walked past behind the guard leaving everyone outside until he passed on the gate who blocks him from seeing the beauty of the city.
After entering Sumhail, he went to eat his lunch on the nearest food stall he saw. Once he's done, he immediately paid for the food at the counter and run off on a different place.
He roam around the city asking for directions and places from the people he met until he found the plaza. He tried memorizing the location and went on his way looking for a place to rest.
This time he was inside an inn. The Inn he chose is a little far from the plaza but was the cheapest room he can afford with the money he brought from his village.
*thud*
He laid down on his bed trying to rest. Closing his eyes he began contemplating about the things he had encountered.
"The city's security is really tight compared to Anandi and the Riverbank but is much safer."
"Since the recruitment will be three days from now, i still have a time to prepare. I'll check whatever information i can gather on this city and also buy some materials for my upcoming test" He thought.
"I just hope that all my preparations were enough for this trial" He sigh.
A moment later his eyes opened and gritted his teeth.
"No! I must be accepted by the school, i need to learn how to control my mageroot and Qi, gotta do everything and plan ahead!"
Determination flashed on his brown eyes. Before he close it again and mumbled "I must do it for everyone's sake".
