Chapter 5: *Collecting part by part of past life.

About twenty years ago, in the heart of the city, surrounded by office buildings, a woman in neat clothes was walking with a man toward a luxury car.

The man swiftly opened the car door, inviting the woman to enter first.

They chatted for a moment before finally kissing, their lips meeting as their tongues explored each other's mouth.

Unbeknownst to them, a man watched angrily from a distance. He was Mr. Edward, Melinda's ex-husband.

Melinda was now very happy with her new husband, while Edward still couldn't forget how alluring she was when she served him in bed.

Yes, even after both had remarried—Mrs. Melinda to Mr. Salomon, while Mr. Edward was with another woman—he still couldn't move on from her. He often dreamed of her, remembering how her sexy body had satisfied his lust.

Edward burned with jealousy as he watched Melinda and Mr. Salomon's romantic display—more than romantic, it was utterly sensual.

Edward slowly stepped toward Melinda's car. His arrival surprised her and her husband, and the woman's eyes clearly showed her displeasure at seeing her ex-husband.

"What is he doing here?"

Their marriage had long ended; they had divorced and hurt each other. Now, they had separate lives.

So why was he appearing in front of Melinda today?

Melinda and her husband got out of the car, both clearly uncomfortable with Edward's presence.

Edward looked through the window of the car, where the married couple had been embracing.

"Wow, looks like I'm interrupting a hot scene," he taunted.

"You're such a nuisance! What are you doing here?"

"You know this is my office area, don't you?"

"Sorry, I forgot that this tiny building is yours! And just so you know, you're standing in the parking lot of my husband's company!"

Melinda smiled, and Edward smiled back. They both laughed sarcastically.

"Okay, I'll leave you two," Edward said mockingly.

"Just continue that hot kiss, I'll be happy to watch even longer!"

"What do you mean?" Melinda retorted, not liking his sarcasm.

He took a few steps back before coming closer again, staring at her angry face.

"Look at this woman's angry face; isn't it seductive?" He was always captivated by his ex-wife's charm. He had never truly wanted a divorce. He remembered their passionate relationship and how much he still desired her.

Seeing Melinda with her older husband only fueled his jealousy.

Edward grabbed Melinda's head and pulled her in for a forceful kiss.

Melinda tried to resist, pushing his hand away, while her husband grabbed Edward's black coat collar.

The man held Melinda tightly in his arms, unable to let go of the sensual lips he had missed.

Edward kissed Melinda roughly, his strong hands gripping her smooth thighs, while his other hand held her head. He reveled in the pull of their kiss and the feel of her lips. This kiss was a reminder of the passion he still longed for.

His palm massaged Melinda's thigh, feeling the tight fabric of her skirt. Another hand tugged at her hair, which had become messy from Edward's roughness.

He still wanted to hold her, to kiss her, to enjoy her beautiful body. He missed her, and this kiss made him unwilling to let go. He still loved his ex-wife deeply.

But Melinda was married to Mr. Salomon, a seventy-year-old man who had retired from the business world.

"Let go of my wife!" her husband shouted, his voice trembling.

He was too weak to stop Edward, too old to compete with his strength.

Edward couldn't understand why Melinda had married the elderly Salomon. Maybe it was because of his wealth—more than Edward's, at least.

He still didn't get it—what could she want from this old man? Melinda's marriage to Salomon unsettled Edward.

Mr. Salomon tried to pull Edward away, but his frailty couldn't stop him.

Edward shoved him aside with ease, knocking the old man to the ground.

He turned and stared at Salomon's helpless face.

Melinda's eyes widened in shock as she covered her mouth with her hands, staring between Edward's cruel face and her husband's pitiful one.

Salomon, enraged, reached into his jacket pocket, pulling out a gun.

Melinda shook her head, signaling him not to use it. He didn't seem afraid.

Edward wasn't fazed by the gun. Salomon, realizing this, pulled out something else—a gold chain that sparkled in the light.

Edward's grin slowly faded when he saw the gleaming object.

Melinda didn't want to witness this, so she embraced Edward, surprising Salomon.

Salomon didn't believe Melinda's choice. He pulled his gun again.

"I know you still love me…" Edward whispered, grinning widely, hiding his face behind Melinda's messy curly hair.

Bang!

Melinda froze, shocked. Her body went limp as she collapsed to the ground, unable to open her eyes, unable to process what had just happened.

Bang!

"I'm waiting for you…" Edward's whisper lingered as she cried, unable to wipe away her tears.

****

"What did this woman do to Dad?"

"Get her, quick!"

Melinda had lost her rich husband, but from the start, she hadn't been after wealth.

The gun Edward had taken made her accept the handcuffs around her wrists.

"No…" Melinda's voice trembled.

She didn't resist the police as they took her away. She didn't protest the harsh words from Salomon's children. She knew she had crossed a line, and she only wished they'd leave her alone. Did they understand her silent plea?

Edward glared at her with anger. He had witnessed everything from the office building, his sharp eyes never leaving the scene.

Melinda's gaze remained fixed on her husband's stiff body, covered in blood. She couldn't get any closer.

One by one, her husband's children arrived, judging her.

Yes, her husband's children were even older than Melinda.

No! This couldn't be happening. She couldn't believe it.

Edward saw her face, full of sorrow, and clenched his fists. The veins bulged on his hands, looking like old tree roots. But, unfortunately, he couldn't approach her.

That "thing" had created a burning sensation within him, one that could destroy him.

Flashback ends.

***

Just like the night before, Alex came home very late, almost midnight.

Leah leaned against the door, fighting off sleep, her arms folded across her chest.

When Alex got closer, the smell of alcohol hit her, making her nauseous. The drowsiness vanished immediately.

Her gaze turned sharp with anger.

"Hello, sweetie!" Alex teased drunkenly, as usual.

He touched Leah's chin and glanced back into the house.

Leah turned around, staring at Alex's broad back.

"Alex, aren't you tired?" Leah hissed irritably.

He pretended not to hear, making his way to the old sofa to lie down.

"Alex, you're pissing me off!"

"What…?" Alex shrugged at the discordant tone in his cousin's voice.

"Come on, Alex, get a job! Get over this meaningless fun!" Leah's voice softened, almost pleading.

She moved closer, pity in her eyes, wondering how much longer this could go on.

"Sorry, dear. I just feel bored. This house is too cramped and smelly. Mom's too old and tired. Dad's never home. How am I supposed to be happy?" Alex looked up, meeting Leah's sad eyes.

"I need to let off some steam… Please stop nagging!" he said, lying down on the couch.

Leah shook her head.

"Wait…" Alex sat up, pointing a finger at Leah.

"You… should enjoy your youth, Leah! Enough with work, go out and have some fun… You're not a robot!"

Alex's words seemed random, but there was some truth in them.

Leah could only look at her cousin, tired of his attitude, yet unable to get angry.

"You work at the convenience store, looking for part-time jobs… there…" Alex rambled, the alcohol making his words slur.

"Do you think your plan to go to college will fix our bad luck?"

Leah shook her head and massaged her forehead.

Alex stood up again, his expression sad.

Leah sat down next to him on their old sofa.

"Lex, at least enjoy life the right way," Leah said, patting his thigh, brushing off the dirt that clung to his jeans.

Alex turned to her and tugged at the corners of his lips, offering a small smile.

"Eh, I made a lot of money today!" He reached into his jacket, its color now faded.

"Want to buy some cosmetics?" He looked at her pretty face.
