“So let me get to the elephant in the room. You told me a month ago that you almost married three years ago—”
“Two years ago, maybe two and half. Somewhere around there.” answered RJ, who wrung his hands as he spoke.
“What happened? Why do you think you’re both ready to marry now?”
Pad hung his head low, studied his feet for a second, and then spoke without making eye contact. “There were a lot of things going on. My aunt was going through aggressive radiation and chemotherapy again and we didn’t feel It was the right time.”
RJ shook his head. “That’s not exactly true and Pad doesn’t want to bring up this part of the past because he thinks it makes us look bad, but the reality is I screwed up. We tell everybody different things because we don’t want to talk about how I effed everything.” He paused. “I had a lot of things going on and I shut Pad out. I went through some depression. And when I realized how I messed everything up, he was there.”
