Chapter 6: 006 ~ An unknown voice

Sydney sat on the couch close to the window, watching the beautiful green scenery. Sitting like that reminded her of her mother who loved nature and would do anything to protect it. Giggles of children drew her attention to the balcony. Staring down, she saw three kids playing in the small pond just right under where she stood. She envied their childhood and carefree nature. She wanted to go back to a world where she didn't have to bother about anything.

"Good evening Luna..."

She flinched and turned back to see a middle aged lady holding some clothes.

"You could have at least knocked rather than just walk in like you own the place." She sounded rude but in her head, it wasn't supposed to come out like that. The sudden voice in the room scared her to death.

"I'm sorry, luna. It won't happen again." She bowed remorsefully. Seeing how sorry she was melted her racing heart. She breathed in and out before speaking.

"I'm sorry for speaking to you that way. I was just scared." She muttered, feeling guilty for shouting at someone who was old enough to her mother. There was long silence in the room before it was broken by another knock on the door.

"The beta asked me to give you this. He said you should change into them and come out." She delivered the message quicky and after handing the clothes to her, she hustled away to avoid causing more trouble. The woman's action made Sydney feel worse than before.

"Why haven't you changed into the clothes yet?" Zane interrogated.

"Why should I change into clothes I don't know its origin? And even if I did, why should I go to where I don't even know?" She asked with an unamused expression.

"As the beta and second in command of this pack, there is only one advice I can give you. Never go against the alpha. He's not a friendly man who can tolerate your nonsense." He sneered and approached the door.

"And dress up fast. Do not waste my time." He growled before exiting.

"Ugh!" She threw the clothes to the bed.

"Who are they to boss me around? This feels so much worse than death." She mumbled. Sitting across the bed, she stared at the door, thinking of a way to escape the hellhole. It had been nothing but misery since she arrived there.

"I want to speak to the alpha." She demanded after she had gone out, changed into the clothes that were brought for her.

"No, can't do. The alpha is too busy to attend to you." Zane replied without emotions. His face was straightforward, trying to put up with the fact that he had to babysit her all day just because Clara didn't want to do it.

"What do you mean by that? I have a lot of questions and I feel like I'm in the dark."

"You have to enjoy staying in the dark. It's better there."

His steps were heavy and full of malice. He wouldn't hesitate to dump her if he ever saw an opening.

"You know, I'm beginning to hate you." She pouted and followed quietly after that. The drive through the city roads was a tranquil one and none of them was ready to break the silence. Sydney simply enjoyed the bright blue sky and clear white clouds that somehow dominated the sky.

At some point, she looked toward Zane but his expression was indifferent, discouraging her from even trying to strike up a conversation. He stopped in front of a restaurant and the moment he got out of the car, he headed for he entrance. He noticed his companion hadn't come down yet and sighed. He looked at her, beckoning on her to follow him.

Reluctantly, she followed him. After securing a table, he asked her what she wanted to eat but she refused answering.

"With all die respect, I don't have all day to spend here, luna."

"It's a mystery how you call me luna but yet, you sound so disrespectful." She scoffed and dropped the menu.

"Buy whatever. I'm not in your pocket to know your budget."

Zane sighed and leaned back on his seat, wondering the kind of world the woman before him came from. Of every lady he had taken to an eatery, she was the only one that cared about how much money he had with him. His lips formed into a smirk.

"Order anything. I can pay for it." He called for a waitress and she appeared in seconds. He took his order and waited for her to say something but she just ordered the same thing as his.

"You really are stubborn. I wonder how the alpha is going to put up with you."

"Thanks for the compliment."

He was about to speak but was cut sot by the ringing of his phone. The moment the line went dead, he stood up and dipped his phone in his pocket with a scowl.

"Do not move an inch. I'll be back."

Without hearing Sydney's objection, he zoomed off.

She almost cried, seeing how alone she was. Married to a man with a mistress with simply nobody to speak to. She could have just accepted death at Yandre rather than live a torturing life.

After confirming that Zane had paid for the food, she wandered off. She couldn't sit alone at a wide eatery for another one hour. It made her look dumb and pitiful.

Trekking down the busy road and trying to find her way back to the pack house, she heard a distinctive voice.

"Help..." It was faint, yet so clear. She looks around curiously but nobody was in trouble.

"Must be my headache." She shook her head rigorously.

'Headaches don't speak, dum dum.' She reprimanded herself before continuing her adventure. Before long, the voice came again and louder this time. Subconsciously, she was led by the voice in her head to a closed bush.

"When did I get here?" She asked with a hazy mind, as though she had been hypnotized. When she looked around, the pack house was in sight but no single werewolf was.

"Over here..." She flinched when she heard the voice. It was coming from within the bushes.

"Hurryyy..."

The voice wasn't giving her a chance to make a decision. She was about entering the bushes when a hand dragged her back.

"Didn't I tell you not to move?" Zane busted with anger but Sydney didn't care about his reaction.

"What's over there?"

"It's a place you shouldn't ever step you feet in." He began dragging her away and she followed unconsciously. The voice started whimpering in her head.

"Who are you?" She muttered.
