Chapter 20: 20. Hunting again.

Heading towards the dungeon I was still a bit pissed off about Hephaestus threatening me. I would probably not be going back there so it wasn't really wise to hold onto my anger.

"Spare some food sir?" a voice pulls me from my thoughts.

An elderly man covered in dirt and grime in a dusty old torn cloak was holding out his hands towards me. Even in my previous life I had donated to the homeless before on multiple occasions.

"Sorry I don't have food but I have some money on me." I tell him digging into my pouch and pulling out my cash I use for snacks and stuffing it into his hands. "That's all I've got on me, sorry."

"This is more than enough, bless you sir and I hope you have a good day." The old man said thankfully.

"Thank you. I hope you do as well." I smile kindly at the man.

Heading into the dungeon Ryan doesn't see the old man shift into a powerful looking man with an eye patch and a head of gray hair. "Ho, my daughter has found herself a nice familia member. I hope he finds my gift acceptable. Better be off to see my lovely daughter, its been a while." the old man abruptly vanishes with a content smile on his face.

Heading into the dungeon Ryan activates Haste and directly heads for the second floor. No reason to waste time searching the first floor for goblins when the second floor has them in plenty.

Once down on the second floor it doesnt take him long to find a group of kobold. Hitting them with slow he makes quick work with the broad sword before cutting out the gems.

"Huh?" When putting them away he felt something in his bag.

Pulling it out there was a book, magical gunsmithing.

"What the hell?" Flipping it open it shows various designs on magical guns which could fire mana, also how to create magical bullets from this world, and some other useful things including tools.

Needless to say I was pretty shocked and quickly tucked the book away in confusion. "Ah, the old man. I remember gods liked to do strange tests like that and reward people for good deeds. Perhaps it was Odin? Wasn't expecting that honestly." Well for my snack money it was a good trade I feel. "I didn't know this world had guns, but then again those gods have been around for a long time, they have probably seen some shit, and Odin is supposed to be a god who traded his eye for knowledge. Could be plausible." Still I can't make any guns because I don't have tools, but it's nice to have. Gives me something to read at night when everyone is asleep.

The killing of kobold and goblins easily gets rid of my previous anger at the goddess of smithing. Just blowing off some steam, not like I'm going to just up and forgive someone for threatening me and not even apologizing. Fuck that. Plus the gloves I bought kept my hands nice and clean from any blood I might have gotten on me from monsters.

I slowly make my way down to the third floor, the monsters just speed up and get a bit stronger. That and they show up in groups of 5 which would be challenging for most groups of noobies however with my increased speed and skills with a blade I can easily cut down a small group like that. It feels like the difficulty is just slowly increasing which is nice. The skin becomes a little harder to cut through, the movements of the monsters get faster, their attacks become more unpredictable. I spend a couple of hours just slaughtering away and moving onto the 4th floor.

Once more the monsters experience a bit of an increase in physical abilities, I notice my broadsword taking a bit of damage if I accidentally hit a bone or something so I swap back to the buster sword which makes that problem go away. Sure it's a bit more messy but hey it happens.

After I was done venting and getting my funds for the day I headed up towards the guild to cash in my magic crystals.

"How was the meeting with the Loki familia?" Rose asks counting my crystals and narrowing her eyes at the 3rd and 4th floor stones.

"That meeting went well, the meeting with Hephaestus not so much I ended up getting banned from buying from her familia." I tell the red headed werewolf.

"Sorry, can you repeat that?" Rose says dropping the magic crystal in her hand in shock.

"I'm banned from the Hephaestus familia because I refused to show her my equipment and let her study it. I don't want my family equipment being copied. She took offense to that and offered that I either show her or basically I'm banned from her establishment. So I took my stuff and left. Nobody is going to threaten me or force me to do anything I don't want to do." I tell her seriously.

She sighs and rubs her eyes. "The Hephaestus family is the biggest supplier of weapons and armor in the city, not only that but they are the best in the city. The other gods of smithing literally moved to the dwarven cities because they couldn't make any money here. How are you supposed to get your equipment?" She asks with worry.

"It will be fine, I'll handle it. I can maintain my own equipment and if need be I'll head to the so called dwarf city and get equipment if need be." I tell her calmly. Worst case scenario I resort to the dragon buster, it may work like a normal blade on regular monster but it doesnt need maintenance. Plus my buster sword is holding up fine.

"Whatever, I just don't want you to die in the dungeon because your equipment gave out on you." She says seriously. Equipment is the life blood of adventurers, a sharp blade can indeed mean the different between life and death.
