Chapter 153: Chapter 152: The Tipping Point

The city was engulfed in chaos. Explosions and gunfire reverberated through the streets as Cole's crew pressed forward. The revolution had reached its tipping point, and the city's military was scrambling to regain control. But for the people of the slums, this was their moment—the culmination of years of oppression and struggle.

Cole crouched low behind a wall, surveying the checkpoint ahead. Soldiers were hunkered down, their rifles trained on the street, but they were clearly disorganized. The suddenness of the attack had thrown them off balance.

"They're not expecting a coordinated assault like this," Lina whispered beside him. Her face was smeared with dirt, her eyes sharp with determination.

"That's exactly why we're going to win this," Cole replied, his gaze fixed on the soldiers ahead.

From their vantage point, Cole could see Maria already perched in an abandoned building, her sniper rifle aimed down at the soldiers. Zack and Ty were in position, ready to strike.

"Ready?" Cole asked, his voice calm but firm.

Lina gave a sharp nod. "Let's do this."

Cole signaled to Ty, who gave him a thumbs up from his hiding spot. A second later, a deafening explosion rocked the checkpoint as Ty's explosives detonated, sending debris flying through the air. The soldiers were thrown into disarray, scrambling for cover as Cole's crew moved in.

"Go!" Cole shouted, darting out from behind the wall with Lina at his side.

They moved quickly, their guns firing in controlled bursts as they advanced on the checkpoint. Maria's shots rang out from above, each one precise, taking down soldiers with chilling accuracy. Zack and Ty flanked from the other side, their assault fast and brutal.

The soldiers never stood a chance.

Cole sprinted toward the heart of the checkpoint, his rifle raised. He fired off a shot, dropping one of the remaining soldiers before the man could even raise his weapon. Lina moved with deadly precision beside him, taking out another soldier with a quick, efficient strike.

Within minutes, the checkpoint was theirs.

Cole stood in the center of the destroyed checkpoint, his breath coming in short, sharp bursts. The adrenaline was still pumping through his veins, but he knew they couldn't stop. Not yet.

"We need to move," Maria called down from her perch, her sniper rifle still trained on the street below. "They'll be sending reinforcements soon."

"Everyone, regroup," Cole ordered, his voice steady despite the chaos around them.

Zack and Ty appeared from the other side of the street, their faces grim but determined. "That was too easy," Zack muttered, wiping the sweat from his brow.

"They weren't prepared for us," Cole replied. "But that's going to change. The next checkpoint will be heavily fortified. We'll have to hit them harder."

"Sounds like my kind of mission," Ty said with a grin, already checking his gear for more explosives.

Lina glanced at Cole, her expression serious. "We're making progress, but we can't get cocky. They'll be expecting us now."

"I know," Cole said, his jaw set. "We'll stick to the plan. We keep hitting them where they least expect it, and we keep moving. We can't let them pin us down."

The crew nodded, and without another word, they moved out, heading toward their next target. The streets were eerily quiet in the aftermath of the explosions, but the tension in the air was palpable. The city was waking up to the reality of the revolution, and soon, the full force of the military would come crashing down on them.

---

As they approached the second checkpoint, the reality of their situation became clear. This one was different. The military was ready this time. Soldiers had set up barricades, heavy artillery was stationed at key points, and the streets were crawling with armed forces.

"This is going to be tough," Zack muttered, crouching beside Cole as they observed the checkpoint from a distance.

"They've fortified their position," Lina said, her eyes narrowing as she scanned the area. "We won't be able to take this one by surprise."

Cole's mind raced, quickly assessing the situation. They were outnumbered and outgunned, but they couldn't afford to back down. Not now.

"We don't need to take them by surprise," Cole said after a moment, his voice calm but firm. "We need to outmaneuver them."

Ty raised an eyebrow, grinning despite the tension. "Outmaneuver? Sounds like you've got a plan."

Cole pointed to the side streets leading away from the checkpoint. "We split into two teams. Zack and Maria, you create a diversion from the east. Draw their attention away from the main entrance. Ty, Lina, and I will come in from the west, take out their artillery, and hit them from the inside."

Zack gave a nod of approval. "Sounds risky, but it might just work."

"We don't have a choice," Cole replied, his eyes locked on the checkpoint ahead. "This is the last major defense between us and the command center. If we take this, we can cripple their entire operation."

Lina tightened the straps on her gear, her expression resolute. "Let's make it count."

With the plan in place, the crew split off, moving into position. Cole's heart pounded in his chest as he led Ty and Lina down a narrow alley toward the western approach. The closer they got, the louder the sounds of the city's military forces became—orders being shouted, machinery whirring, and the distant rumble of vehicles.

Cole signaled for Ty and Lina to stop as they reached the edge of the alley. "Wait for Zack's signal," he whispered, his eyes scanning the barricades in front of them.

For a tense moment, they waited in silence, the anticipation almost unbearable. And then, like clockwork, Zack's diversion began.

An explosion rocked the eastern side of the checkpoint, followed by a barrage of gunfire. Soldiers shouted in confusion, rushing to respond to the sudden attack. Cole wasted no time.

"Move!" he ordered, darting out of the alley with Ty and Lina close behind.

They moved quickly, ducking behind cover as they approached the artillery stationed on the west side of the checkpoint. The soldiers were focused on Zack's diversion, giving Cole and his team the perfect opportunity to strike.

"Ty, set the charges," Cole whispered as they reached the artillery.

Ty grinned, already pulling out his explosives. "My pleasure."

As Ty worked, Cole and Lina provided cover, their guns trained on the soldiers patrolling nearby. The tension was thick, every second feeling like an eternity as they waited for Ty to finish.

"Charges set," Ty whispered, his voice barely audible over the distant gunfire.

"Now we wait," Cole said, his eyes fixed on the soldiers ahead.

They waited for the right moment, and when Zack's second explosion hit, Cole gave the signal.

"Blow it."

Ty pressed the detonator, and the artillery went up in a ball of fire and smoke, the explosion rattling the streets around them. The soldiers were thrown into chaos, scrambling to respond to the sudden attack from both sides.

"Go, go, go!" Cole shouted, leading the charge toward the now-undefended barricades.

They moved with precision, taking down the remaining soldiers and pushing through the checkpoint. The air was thick with smoke and the acrid smell of burning machinery, but Cole barely noticed. His focus was solely on the command center looming in the distance.

They had done it.

They had broken through the final line of defense.

---

By the time the crew regrouped at the edge of the checkpoint, the city's military forces were in full retreat. Zack and Maria appeared from the eastern side, their faces flushed with the adrenaline of battle.

"That was one hell of a diversion," Zack said, wiping the sweat from his brow. "We've got them on the run."

Maria's cold, calculating expression remained unchanged, but there was a glint of satisfaction in her eyes. "They weren't ready for us."

"We're not done yet," Cole reminded them, his voice steady. "The command center is up ahead. That's where we finish this."

Lina stood beside him, her gaze focused on the distant building. "This is it, isn't it? The final push."

Cole nodded, his heart pounding in his chest. "Yeah. This is where we take them down for good."

---

As they prepared to move on the command center, the weight of what they were about to do settled over Cole. This was it—the culmination of everything they had fought for. The revolution had reached its tipping point, and there was no turning back now.

"We're going to change everything," Cole said quietly, his eyes locked on the command center in the distance.

Lina placed a hand on his shoulder, her touch steadying him. "We already have."

With a final nod, Cole led his crew toward the command center, their steps resolute and unwavering. The revolution wasn't just a dream anymore—it was a reality, and they were about to make history.
