Chapter 2: Neutral?

Faye lay floating in that white expanse for what seemed like eternity. Maybe it was eternity for all she knew. It's not like there was a clock or sun around to help her figure out the time....

She realized that she could float left or right with just a thought, but the speed was slow and there wasn't anything that she could see in any particular direction. She'd floated in one direction for what felt like days when she first arrived and couldn't find anything worthwhile.

Finally, she'd given up and just waited. What for? She wasn't sure. There might not be anything to wait for. That's how it seemed. But she couldn't do anything else in the mean time.

Slowly, she floated forward as she waited for something to change.

When she first arrived, she was angry. She was angry at herself and everything else.

She'd screamed and cried and screamed some more, but it all came to naught. In the end she was still there, just floating.

Finally, she'd calmed enough for silence to stretch our around her, though it was occasionally interrupted by Fayes voice.

"This fucking blows." She said to the wide expanse before her.

"I'd rather be sent to the nine hells than this place...I mean fuck at least there's something to do in hell...."

"Oh, that can be arranged if you're sure that's where you'd like to go, though, I don't recommend it."

A voice spoke from behind Faye. Her eyes widened in shock and she turned to face the newcomer. Unfortunately, turning to face whoever spoke wasn't an easy task. Faye's speed was just as slow in turning as it was moving forward. She moved slower than if she was in the elemental plane of water.

Finally, she came face to face with....the speaker?

A little...girl? Stood before her.

It was hard to tell, the being itself wasn't human looking. In fact it seemed more like it was some sort of geometric shape that'd gained sentience.

Regardless, Faye wasn't too picky about her company currently.

The two floated before each other for a moment before the triangle head spoke.

"Hello, my name is Y017. I'm here to bring you to your final destination in accordance with the lady of fate. I apologize for my late arrive, these limbo planes are difficult to navigate."

The voice that spoke seemed to have multiple sources, but a single origination point. If Faye had the ability, she felt like her hair would be standing on end just listening to the thing speak.

She cocked her head to the side.

"Alright...so I'm in limbo..."she paused for a moment, then shook her head and continued. "Whatever, can we just go, please?"

"Certainly," the triangle responded.

Slowly, they both headed in a direction.

Although she'd been alone for so long and felt the need of some sort of change in the environment or communication of some sort, Faye found herself falling silent as she followed the entity.

Finally, after a while had passed and nothing had changed, she spoke.

"Where are we going, exactly?"

Y017 paused in its movement and turned its head slightly in her direction. Faye stopped before running into the thing.

"I do not know." Came the answer.

Faye blinked rapidly, trying to wrap her head around the words that were just spoken.

"Wha...I'm sorry haha....what?"

Faye felt as if a tiny twig snapped in half. "Then why are you leading me?! Aren't you supposed to know how to get out of here?!"

She felt the urge to strangle the thing....if she knew which part of it was considered its neck.

"You have to decide. I am just the guide. You were a neutral being that was not meant to die. Usually, if a fate cord is cut too soon, the lady allows the soul to cross over into a relevant plane to spend eternity. Your soul, however, was...interesting. It drew other soul cords toward it and pushed others away. It's a rare thing to see...quite rare indeed. She felt it was a pity to allow it to cross over so soon. So, she refused you entry into the afterlife and wanted to give a choice to you. Would you like to spend your eternity on a neutral plane, or would you like to reincarnate?"

Faye stared at the living geometry after it finished speaking. She carefully pondered its words.

"Does that mean the entire reason I was here was because of the goddess of fate? Why did it take so long for you to find me? What the hell does it mean to "bend soul cords"? What's a neutral plane? What will I do for eternity? How will I reincarnate when my body was eaten?"

The questions spilled out of her mouth one after another.

The entity didn't seem fazed by her questions and instead calmly answered each carefully and in order.

"Yes, these planes are hard to navigate, so this one was slow in finding you, I'm not entirely sure, a neutral plane is where many unspoken for souls are sent to reside. As for what you would do for eternity, that depends on which plane you go to. For an example, there are souls in the nine hells that are used as currency. There are those that are used as fodder in the blood war. Of course these are evil souls, not neutral. There are souls born of the fruit trees in elysium where they reside basking in the every present sun for eternity. Then there are those that blanket the ground between gods abodes. These are neutral souls. It depends are where you go. You will be given a new body, should you choose to reincarnate."

Faye took in all the new information and fell silent once again. It wasn't easy following the answers when they were given in quick succession. She almost wondered if good ole hypotenuse was doing it on purpose to fuck with her.

Honestly, being sent to a neutral plane to just exist sounded awful to her after experiencing this plane...

"...Fuck that, I wanna be reincarnated." She said after thinking for a while.

If she was able to reincarnate, maybe she could change her neutral status and she wouldn't have to head to a freaking neutral plane when she died.

The isosceles appeared to smile and nodded as it turned from her and began floating in the same direction they were headed before.

"Very well, let us begin the process, then."

Faye followed behind closely.
