Chapter 37: Tea Party

"Here you go"

"Seriously tea? I thought you said we were celebrating. Where is the alcohol?"

"In your case not drinking is like a celebration"

"Bulls*it!"

After the working hours Amon decided to throw a little party in order to celebrate getting through the investigation unharmed as well as the recent donation. The drink of choice happened to be tea which did not match Renfri's very specific taste as you can imagine.

"I still can't believe that my letter actually convinced Mr. Greadey to donate so much money…"

Arthur felt a bit emotional and smiled slightly while looking down on his cup of tea. He was obviously ignorant as to which Greadey made the donation, not to mention the unfortunate death of Edmund Greadey. Amon basically said it was because of that letter he wrote they received it.

"Truly what a surprise"

Amon shamelessly commented as such even though he was the one who plotted the murder of Edmund and then shortly after scammed his son Rodric into making the actual donation.

Amon would argue though that it was not a scam since he technically helped him solve an issue that he in the first place created by murdering his father and going around convincing people they were mistreated.

I guess it makes it okay then.

"Yeah…"

Renfri on the other hand felt a bit guilty when deceiving Arthur although the idea of telling him the truth never crossed her mind. The excuse she gave herself was that Arthur was too pure to be tainted with the filth of this dirty world and that she most definitely was too sober to open that can of worms.

The second reason caused her the biggest headache especially after looking at the hot cup of tea Amon prepared. Wait… it isn't poisoned is it?

*Cough* *Cough* *Cough*

Renfri in horror looked at Arthur who after drinking tea started to choke. It all suddenly made sense to her. Amon wanted all that money for himself!

He already had a history of killing people for it and what would stop him from doing it again? She once again forgot that Amon was a psychopath that is capable of doing anything to get what he wants and all he could possibly want from her he already had! There was only money left and he clearly had no intention to share.

"I am sorry I choked a bit on the tea"

Nevermind…

"I see"

Renfri for some reason felt disappointed and since she had no other excuse not to drink the tea she decided to finally give it a taste. She was surprised since it was actually quite good.

"It's good"

"Of course it's good! I made it after all"

Amon seemed a bit offended by Renfri's look of surprise.

"Then why are you not drinking it?"

She accurately pointed out the fact that Amon did not pour himself any tea.

"Are you serious right now? For all that time now we lived together... Have you ever seen me drink or eat for that matter? Sleep? F*cking breathe? S*it and pee!?"

Amon appeared to be on the edge of a mental breakdown while Renfri casually leaned forward. She stared at him with a serious expression for a good minute as if to check if he actually doesn't breathe.

"Oh yeah! Why is that?"

When she asked this Amon's expression turned a bit strange. He did not answer immediately and instead took a deep breath before doing so which slightly confused Renfri but she did not say anything.

"I am a demon which means that I am also a purely spiritual being and unlike you who was born of a human and a demon I do not possess a physical body that requires sustenance"

This answered Renfri's question but unfortunately posed another. She knew for a fact that her mother was human and her father a demon but if demons do not possess physical bodies how in the world was she conceived?

"I wonder… Do some demons possess physical bodies?"

"Yes"

Amon did not care to elaborate and Renfri seeing his grumpy expression did not push for an answer. Who knows he might actually poison her if she angers him enough. He often accuses her of anger issues but when Amon gets angry he can get really angry.

"Anyway we are getting seriously off topic"

"We are?"

"Yes we are"

Amon appears to have something else on the agenda besides the celebration if you can call it that.

"I wish to discuss the future of the Foundation"

When Renfri heard that she turned a lot more serious probably because it involved money whereas the quiet Arthur seemed a bit excited and smiled from ear to ear like a complete moron.

"Tell me Arthur is not tiring working all by yourself? Don't you think we should hire extra help?"

"Oh not at all I love helping people!"

Amon clearly did not want such an answer and the way he looked at Arthur in silence could make someone wonder if he was not considering murder at that moment.

"Anyway… I am thinking we should expand and by that I mean hire some people and also…"

He turned to look at Renfri.

"Secure other sources of income. Coln district currently feels a bit empty don't you think?"

"You might be right… a lot of people did disappear during the investigation and the ones that remained are definitely weakened although if you really want to… fill that empty hole we will be met with resistance"

Amon seemed quite happy after hearing that since unlike a certain someone Renfri had a brain and since today they really found a common tongue. That being money.

Arthur also looked happy. Weren't they discussing how to help more people? How the people are weak and need their help? How to fill in a hole in their hearts as a charity? He was so happy that his friends were equally as dedicated as him to helping people.

The Coln district is about to experience a change for the better. Surely.
