Chapter 33: Letters II

"The weather is awful today"

Renfri commented as such after coming back to the Foundation with today's newspaper. It was the second day in a row that it rained so horrendously and she was thankful that she owned a coat that was relatively waterproof.

"That smug f*cker…"

She said so when she recalled Amon since for some reason the rain just ignores him completely. When he walks in the rain although the raindrops hit him he just doesn't get wet. Why? Who knows! He just smiled when asked.

"Sigh… I swear he is the personification of all that is annoying"

Renfri decided not to think about him any longer and her attention moved to the newspaper in her hand. It was slightly wet on the corners but since she hid it under her coat it was undamaged for the most part.

The headline on the first page caused her heart to skip a beat. It said:

"Members of the Ouroboros finally caught! Execution tomorrow afternoon!"

She partially knew what Amon was planning but nevertheless the recent events really made her feel dreadful. He brainwashed Sarah who many consider a saintess and as she learned recently some tramps as well. All of them were used to deceive the authorities and to reinforce a narrative of a failed experiment which must have succeeded judging from the headline.

Renfri ever since she could remember lived with the mentality of kill or be killed but Amon…

Did he have any rules or limits? With his abilities what kind of horror could be potentially unleashed if he just so wished? The only thing he seems to care about is himself and well… Arthur for some reason.

Speaking of which Renfri just noticed him sitting at the table writing something.

"Hey Arthur. What are you doing?"

"Oh hi!"

He seemed really excited and the way he bounced left and right on the chair made him look like an over energised puppy.

"I know that we have some problems with funding so I decided to write a letter to Mr. Greadey, hoping that he would make a small donation to our charity. He appeared quite cheerful when we told him we were establishing a charity after all. Don't you remember?"

"Right… cheerful"

Renfri recalled how that fat pig barely could contain his laughter when they mentioned that they were going to establish a charity. He did not seem like the kind of a person that donates money.

"Can I see it?"

"Sure. Tell me what you think"

Arthur handed her the letter and Renfri… was a bit surprised by its contents. It was short and basically looked like this:

(Read in childish and exited voice for intended reading experience)

***

Dear Mr. Greadey,

I hope this letter finds you well. ♫꒰・‿・๑꒱

Do you recall selling that one building in the Coln district to a woman named Renfri Reid? Well, we succeed with establishing a charity like we said we would! How amazing! (づ ◕‿◕ )づ

I wondered if you would be willing to make a small donation??? You don't have to if you don't want to but… ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡° )

It would be super cool of you if you would. (ᗒᗣᗕ)՞ <3 <3 <3

Kind regards,

Arthur Dark

Ps. The one with blond hair (=^● ⋏ ●^=)

And that was the letter Arthur wrote to Edmund Greadey… Did I mention that the entire letter was also decorated with hand drawn flowers and smiley faces? (kill me)

Anyway, Renfri felt short on words after reading that and simply gave him back the letter.

"So… what do you think?"

"It definitely makes you feel… things"

Arthur must have taken that as a compliment since his smile only widened.

"Great! That's what I was aiming for!"

"Oh Goddess, have mercy on his soul…"

They say that there are no atheists in the foxholes and although Renfri was no atheist she was far from religious. Considering all that, she still muttered a prayer for Edmund since this letter for her seemed far worse than a foxhole.

"Now… Don't they address letters with runes?"

Arthur said so and started to inscribe runes on the envelope. First was the rune symbolising the sender and he chose the one with the meaning of an 'angel' and then the second symbolising the addressee. He picked one that basically stood for 'smiling'. Of course he did not forget to close the letter with a rune of 'confinement' as well.

"Hey! What are the two of you up to?"

At this moment Amon entered the room as well and seemed curious as to what Arthur was doing.

"He is writing a letter to that Greadey guy"

"That fat pig?"

Amon glanced over Arthur's shoulder to see what he was scribbling and the horror he felt at that moment could not be possibly contained in simple words.

Renfri, seeing the absolute shock on Amon's face also looked back and was terrified to see that in the span of a second she did not look at what Arthur was writing the runes on the envelope multiplied from three to hundreds.

"We need a f*cking exorcist!"

Renfri possessed only a basic knowledge about runes and knew how to inscribe only some simple ones. She did not know what Arthur was trying to achieve but seeing Amon collapsing into a fetal position with a blank, traumatised expression made her quite worried.

"What? Why? What is he writing?"

"He is… He is… Instead of writing an address he just… He is describing our geographical location on the globe with f*cking runes! RUNES! ON THE GLOBE! COORDINATES! HE IS WRITING COORDINATES WITH RUNES! THERE ARE NO NUMBERS IN RUNES!!! JUST SYMBOLS!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!"
