Chapter 36: Funds Acquired

Renfri was in her office and with a blank expression she stared at the man sitting in front of her.

"...and that would be all Ms. Reid. Have a good day"

The man wearing expensive clothing stood up, bowed slightly and then quickly left without saying anything else. Renfri still with a look of utter disbelief stared at the two items the man left her with.

The first item was a document that basically gave her full ownership of the Foundation's building meaning that she no longer needs to make any further payments on it.

The second item was a spatial wallet filled to the brim with exactly 100 000 noble vin. That amount was enough to buy another similar building if she so wished but this time without a need for paying it off in instalments. She could easily purchase it in one go…

Few minutes had to pass before she awoke from her daze and now recalled something from a newspaper she read a couple of days ago. She opened a drawer in her desk in which she kept old papers and dug out the one she was looking for. It confirmed her theory as on the third page was a story with a headline:

"Merchant Poisoned By His Own Chef!"

Previously she did not read it as she found that uninteresting but now she did so with fervour.

"...The forty six year old man named Paul Nickelson under interrogation revealed that after years of supposed mistreatment he decided to poison Mr. Edmund Greadey after he threatened to fire him…"

"...Nickelson also said that he did not expect to get away and that if given the chance would do so again. At the moment he is yet to face trial but considering the circumstances the death penalty is likely…"

"...Mr. Greadey's family when asked about the accusations of mistreatment from the murderer as well as other employees who worked for Mr. Greadey completely disagreed and refuted with claiming that in his will Mr. Greadey left a large sum of his wealth to be donated to charity which proves his upright character…"

Renfri did not read further as she learned everything she wanted. She had no idea when or how but was sure of one thing. Amon is somehow responsible for all this.

This warranted a serious… celebration.

"I AM F*KING RICH BABY!"

Renfri with a wide smile opened another drawer in her desk but instead of newspapers it was completely filled with cheap booze. She carefully navigated with her finger through different bottles as if she had a difficulty with choosing even though every bottle was exactly the same.

"You will do"

She ultimately opted for the one furthest in the back and opened it by slapping the cap against the edge of the desk. She leaned back on her chair and swayed the bottle clockwise as if pretending she was some sort of connoisseur tasting the most exquisite wine.

"Sigh…"

Renfri did not drink her beer however and just put it away. Her smile faded from her face and she just stared at the plain wall of her office with a tired expression. It was unclear what was on her mind and this lasted for some time before she changed her focus to the door.

"How long are you planning on standing there?"

"You noticed…"

The door to the office opened revealing Amon who stood there with a slightly embarrassed expression.

"Are you angry?"

"Why would I be angry?"

Renfri crossed her arms and looked at Amon in a way that made him believe she was picturing him in a coffin ready to be buried in an unnamed grave. There is no need to be a demon adept at reading emotion to figure out she was most definitely angry.

Amon carefully approached the empty chair in front of Renfri one step at a time without breaking eye contact for even a second. The way he acted could be compared to an experienced hunter encountering a predator in the wild, trying his best to escape. There was a difference however as Amon was approaching the predator not running away still even while sitting down he did so slowly as if afraid a violent motion would trigger an attack.

"Are you done?"

"Yes…"

Renfri clicked her tongue and leaned forward.

"How?"

She asked a simple question with a clear inquiry as to how in hell did he manage all this.

"Short or long?"

"Short"

"Well…"

Amon paused for a second as if to gather his thoughts but the ever so growing smirk on his face betrayed just how prideful he felt and that he definitely had much to say.

"It all began one fateful day when Arthrur and I visit-"

"I said short"

Renfri seeing that Amon probably prepared an hour long monologue cut him out without hesitation.

"Fine… I was at the market with Arthur and we stumbled upon Edmund absolutely blasting on his chef since he f*cked something up with the ingredients he purchased. All I did was talk with the poor guy and maybe I made him realise just how big of a prick that fat pig is for mistreating him and maybe just maybe I presented an idea of poisoning him… as just a joke you know"

This did not surprise Renfri but she was still confused about the will of Edmund.

"Then how did you manage to convince Edmund to put so much money to be donated to us in his will? Was it before you talked with the chef or after?"

"Oh it was quite simple. I didn't nor did I tamper with the will in any way"

"What?"

This however surprised Renfri. If Amon did not utter a word to Edmund then did he decide to donate so much money from the goodness in his heart? She was not buying it especially after seeing Amon still smiling like a moron.

"Instead I talked with his son named Rodric who actually inherited everything after his death about the sudden accusations of mistreatment from multiple employees being thrown at his father. I happened to propose a solution"

Amon's expression turned ecstatic.

"To disguise his donation to charity as his father's and paint those people as greedy scum who go after the wealth of a dead person who donated a large sum of it to charity. It worked as you can imagine"

"Yes… and the charity you just so a happened to name was the Guardian Angel Foundation that just so happens to be owned by us"

"You seem to be getting it. So you are no longer angry?"

"No. Just inform me about stuff like this next time"

"Will do"

Murdering a father and then scamming the son… truly something to bond over as they shared a wholesome moment.
