Chapter 14: Isaiah’s Awakening

"Isaiah, I need you to wake up, please," a voice calls out.

"Isaiah, wake up," the voice said again.

Isaiah hears this voice but not very clearly. He slowly fights opening his eyes while lying in a hospital bed. Finally, Isaiah opens his eyes. He sees his mother and an anesthesiologist. In confusion about his whereabouts, he stares blankly.

"How old are you, Isaiah?" the doctor asks.

"Twelve," he responds with a confused look.

"Do you know where you are right now?" the doctor asks.

"I don't know," Isaiah responds, still stuck.

The doctor takes a deep breath and looks at Isaiah's blank look. He gestures to Kim, nodding his head. She walks over to the doctor with water in her eyes, close to breaking down. They both step out of the hospital room to converse.

"What is it?" Kim says dramatically, on the verge of breaking down.

"I regret to inform you Ms. Karrson, but we may have to keep your son overnight for a day or two for examination and blood work," the doctor informs.

Kim automatically and dramatically scoffs and breaks down.

"Nothing major, we just want to know how his health looks like and what we should do moving on from here," the doctor explains.

"Okay, so what can I do?" She asks very emotionally.

"Return home and try to get a good night's rest. You're welcome to see him anytime before the examination tomorrow," he says.

Suddenly, the doctor's phone beeps in the middle of their conversation, causing it to get his full attention.

"Excuse me, I just have to take this. I'll be back in a minute," The doctor says.

The doctor walks away, leaving Kim outside the hospital room. She watches the doctor go and then turns to face Isaiah, whose eyes are now closed again. Kim is in distress, worrying deeply about her son.

The next day, Kim waits for her son's results in the hospital's waiting room. After a few moments, Doctor Miller enters the waiting room. Kim rises and is very concerned about the final results. She walks toward the doctor. He holds a few images of Isaiah's X-rays. The doctor sighed.

"So what I can tell you is that his tests came back negative meaning we couldn't detect anything wrong with him." He says.

"Okay." She says sighing with relief.

"However, I do have a question." He says.

Kim nods, wondering what his question is.

"Has your son ever been in contact with outside spirits or souls of the afterlife?" He asks.

"I…I don't know…I hope not!" She says with shock.

"Well, I'd hate to assume however, according to his X-rays," he says, showing Kim the images.

Kim looks down at the images, gasping, then back up at the doctor.

"What are you saying?!" She says.

                                       "Nothing." The doctor chuckles.

"It's just that I've worked in situations like these and I can assure you." He continues before getting interrupted.

"Well, I can assure you that my son has never dealt with negative energy or spirits. We live a positive lifestyle, thank you," She interrupts with a slight attitude.

"I see. Well, if anything strange or suspicious occurs with your son again, call me." He states.

While giving Kim his business card, he reveals he is also a specialized priest.

She snatches the card out of his hand. Isaiah then enters the waiting room, causing the Kim and Dr. Miller to break eye contact. Kim is ready to see her son again and reliazes the discharge papers in his hand.

"Ready to go?" She asks, smiling warmly at him, trying to hide her worry.

She wipes her tears and tries to act casual around her son.

"Yeah," Isaiah responds as he sees his mother wiping tears from her eyes.

Isaiah walks out by himself toward the front door of the hospital.

"Thanks, Mr. Miller." She adds while shoving the business card into her purse.

In a hurry, she exits the front door to catch up with her son.

                                         "Glad to help," he says.

He leaves the waiting room to deal with his next patient.
