Chapter 20: The Beginning of the Siege

It had almost been a day, the massive army sent by Mordor in the south which the gondorians saw while they were marching.

"By the Valar, that ranger had spoken the truth. You! Alert the soldiers guarding the civilians for the incoming attack, order them to escape whilst us defenders will buy time to escape." A captain shouted to a messenger in the garrison.

The soldier nodded in horror as he ran to the escapees.

"To think that they hadn't believed him, not to blame them for not seeing his feats however." Baranor shook his head, having been one of the few people to believe Talion's words alongside the hunting party he'd made and Idril.

Idril was beside Baranor watching the army march, she thought of Aragorn and Talion as she herself believed to be the only hopes. She didn't count Eltariel however due to the fact that she's an elf and was sent to vanquish the Nazgûl by Galadriel.

"Aragorn, we hope the army you've brought would be enough." She spoke grimly, clinging onto hope however and sought to succeed it.

"It's time for us to inspire our soldiers, Idril. We may not survive this, but we will die fighting and showing our indomitable will." He looked to Idril and told her, while she nodded.

He began to walk to the center of the gate on the walls.

"Gondorians of Minas Ithil!" He shouted, turning the soldiers attention to him.

"Us gondorians have fought the darkness for centuries, milleniums! We will show them that something had come up to our people from our battles, we will not die with shame, but with courage! We face our greatest obstacle at this time, we may not survive this but they shan't either! So stand with me, Men of the West! Stand with me, as the first line of defense against the darkness! We shall fulfill our great ancestor's feats, to show that our strength has not deteriorated but increased! Raise your swords gondorians, face the darkness and defeat the East! For Gondor!" Baranor shouted out to inspire the Men of the West whilst holding his sword in his right hand and raised up, the once down faces of the gondorians disappeared as they steeled themselves.

"For Gondor! For Gondor!" The soldiers chanted as they raised their swords.

"They are here!" Idril announced as the gondorians saw a massive army almost across the bridge, with bodies littered around the environment.

There in the air flew nine Nazgûls, one in particular was eye catching.

It was a fully armored ringwraith holding a mace and was in the front of the group, it was the Witch King.

"Men of the West, your last stand is futile. The time of darkness has come, as the light snuffed out. Your bodies will decorate the city as blood and gore litter. This will be occupied by Mordor, no matter how hard you may defend. In the end, it will. be. futile." The Witch King announced in a chilly and weirdly loud but calm voice, he used this to decrease the morale of the enemy.

Many gondorians grew terrified as most of them gulped while some made scared noises, luckily none ran off from the Witch King mainly because of Baranor's speech.

"Your evil will not defeat the West, you may kill us all here now but I swear to you that the light shall prevail!" He answered to the Witch King, as he himself was somewhat shaky.

It then became silent as sounds were heard from Mordor, it was similar to an earthquake.

Idril's eyes widened alongside many others as she shouted, "Siege beasts! Retreat, fire the trebuchets!" As many gondorians ran while some catapult looking mechanisms shot out rocks and hit some siege beasts.

One hit a siege beast which killed it while the others ballista were hit on their backs as it destroyed them.

The rocks shot out by the siege beasts hit the walls as it destroyed them,.

The Nine had chosen to dismount their Fellbeasts due to the fact of the amount of archers on the walls that would immediately fire once in range.

"Kill the manswines! Peel off their skins and feed them to the Caragors! RAAGHHH!!" The orc commander shouted out as multiple battle cries were heard across the army, they began charging the main gate and flooded inside.

"Hold the line! Archers to the front, fire at the approaching enemy!" A gondorian sergeant ordered, as the archers moved to front and began firing.

"Snaga! Charge at them!" The orc commander barked out as terrified orcs looked on in horror while they were kicked.

"Get a move on!" The orc shouted, as the slaves ran to act as meatshields to the arrows.

"Archers, retreat to the back of the line! Defenders to the front, swordsmen to the middle line!" The sergeant ordered as the defenders formed a shield wall, confronting the charging force.

The orc snagas hesitated until they were punched in the back by the orcs to continue.

"Crossbowmen! Shoot at the back!" The commander shouted as orcs using crossbows shot at the back of the line.

"Archers, Retaliate!" The gondorian ordered out as the archers began firing back.

Meanwhile....

"Oi! Captain, the army's here!" An orc shouted as the captain looked at him and grinned savagely.

"Let's go!" The orc captain ordered as the soldiers rode on their Caragors to them.

They were at the back, and so they would be able to flank them.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

"I should take down those siege beasts, those are vital in their siege." Talion told Idril and Baranor as they nodded.

"Very well, go now-" They were cut off by a flash of green light as darkness appeared on the appearance.

"There is nowhere to run now brother, the time of the Nazgûl is at hand." A Nazgûl said, weirdly only having the Witch King absent.

"Seems I have to get pass these wraiths first then." Talion spoke as he pulled out his sword alongside Baranor and Idril.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Meanwhile at the Witch King's location....

He was currently inside the tower, with a kneeling figure in front of him.

"Here's the Palantir, but please... Spare my daughter." An escaped Castamir pleaded to the Witch King.

"Very well..." Mûrazor said as he slammed his mace at the commander.

"Now, my lord-" He was suddenly attacked by an elf.

"Foul wraith, your kind will perish!" She shouted while holding her twin blades.

"You shall see how useless it is to hold back the darkness." The Witch King said as he glowed in green light.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

"We must hurry! The siege must have begun by now!" Aragorn shouted while Gandalf released a telekinetic blast from his staff which launched away multiple orcs.

"Go now, Isildur's heir! I shall hold off these foul creatures of Sauron." Gandalf told Elessar while he nodded.

"Thank you, Gandalf. We will not fail you." Aragorn nodded and rode at full speed while Gandalf dismounted his horse and began fighting a large group of infected orcs which chased them while they rode.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm making a modification to the lore btw, Palantirs will allow Sauron to manifest in that specific location as long as it is in the fortress, for example:

Palantir of Minas Ithil will allow him to manifest around the Palantir and let him stay for as long as he can but cannot go outside the fortress.

Why? Of course because I want a Sauron fight. Still not gonna be full powered like in the second age since he doesn't hold the ring.
