Chaos's fury almost won but I reined her in just in time, my silent struggle obviously lost on the watchers while Mom spoke without interruption.

"Eve, daughter of Isis and Samael, host to Chaos, you have been brought before this tribunal to face the charges laid down here by that same tribunal." She didn't bother looking at me, and I carefully avoided looking at her if only to keep Chaos from rising and ripping my mother's head from her body.
