Chapter 118: Chapter 118: We Need To Talk

The Crosspath seemed foreign to me as I entered, as though I experienced it for the first time. I stumbled slightly, knowing I could blame it on my bare, unprotected feet if the others asked, not sure if I was ready to tell them what I'd seen and felt so clearly.

Seth was gone, winging his way to the Mist door with my little sister in his grasp. Adam caught my elbow and steadied me while I watched the dragon who was my closest advisor cross the hub in a matter of two wing flaps, the Mist door expanding outward to devour him as he flew into its embrace. I almost giggled at the near hysterical thought it literally ate him and then hiccupped slightly, a faint burp from the swallowing throat of the doorway into my realm.

The briefest of respites, but enough I could sag into Adam, could release the horrid memory of what was becoming of Rome and gather myself to share with my friends.
