Chapter 26: Berserk Mode
"Shit, shit, shit," he swore with a piece of flesh dangling where the whip had torn his face. He clicked on the level seven healing elixir in the store intending to purchase it on credit.
"Thank you for visiting Equino's finest store where you can shop with great convenience. How may I be of service?" asked the annoying voice of the system that seemed to be rejoicing in his misfortune.
He tapped the purchase on credit icon from the display projected in front of him from his mind but the system issued an annoying warning sound.
System warning: You have exceeded your credit limit.

The bear claw man felt like hitting someone. He stood up from the ground fuming like an angry bull. He truly believed everything was Jin Chen's fault. If he hadn't beaten him up to the point of breaking each bone in his body he would have had elixirs to heal himself. If this man didn't have enemies no one would have approached and manipulated him into challenging Jin Chen.
Since it was all this guild leader's fault he had to play dirty and win this challenge otherwise he would be as good as dead. If he could at least retrieve the whip then it would make all this worth it. From his inventory, he took out a green bottle containing poison known as the reaper's smile. The word smile had nothing to do with how the victim dies.
It was a level nine kind of poison extracted from plants. Once it's injected into the bloodstream the victim would feel an inexplicable itch coming from the inside. With each second the itchy feeling would intensify causing the victim to have a growing desire to scratch so as to relieve their discomfort.
With the itchy feeling growing stronger and stronger the victim would claw at their skin trying to get to the root cause. Their strength would also upgrade that even if one wanted to stop them from scratching their face off they wouldn't be able to. People can only hopelessly watch the person painfully mutilate themselves to death.
As to the reason why it was called the reaper's smile, it was because this horrific death would be amusing to the grim reaper because of its rarity. Now that exact same poison was in this man's hands and was about to be served to an unsuspecting victim.
He smeared the poison on a dagger without being noticed and looked up to Jin Chen who was proudly holding his whip in his hands. His lips twitched as he gritted his teeth in anger. He lunged towards Jin Chen but this time he was no longer blindly attacking.
He banked on Jin Chen underestimating him as he sent his flying claws towards his enemy. His attacks were much more fierce than before serving as a distraction. While Jin Chen was blocking his attacks, the man discretely sent the dagger to attack from behind.
His plan was simple. While Jin Chen was distracted by the showdown he wouldn't be able to see it coming. His plan would have been perfectly executed if he wasn't dealing with Jin Chen. In as much as he attempted a sneak attack one thing was for certain, he was bound to lose.
Jin Chen had already seen through his plan. The fact that he had disarmed this man of his special weapon should have deterred him to yield but because he had blind confidence in whatever trick he had up his sleeve he stubbornly fought back.
Feeling annoyed, Jin Chen broke the man's remaining flying claws while the blazing flame surrounding him knocked out the dagger sneakily approaching him.
Bear claw's expression froze but that was only the beginning. Jin Chen whipped him hard this time ripping off a chunk of his torso. The man fell to the ground with a loud thud leaving an imprint on the surface.
This time he didn't get up quickly. Who knows if he was simply playing possum or he had fainted from the pain. Jin Chen coldly stared at the dagger that had snuck up on him. His pupils flashed before the dagger flew up from the ground and hovered before his face.
Just one sniff of the liquid on the dagger and he could easily tell what it was. The bastard dared to use the reaper's smile on him. If he wasn't angry before, he was incredibly pissed now.
The cracks that resembled the strokes of lightning spread to half his body as he entered into berserk mode. He was like a hardcore beast tearing at his prey with no reservations.
He angrily raised the whip with the cracks creeping from underneath his sleeve to the hand holding the whip. The yellow flame was suddenly engulfed by a ferocious dark blue flame like a butane gas tank mixed with copper chloride had exploded before everyone's eyes.
Jin Chen was especially ruthless cracking that whip several times with crazed eyes. The man's flesh was burnt, torn till he became unrecognizable and unsightly to look at.
This is what one could only describe as retribution but to some, it could be deemed as overkill. At least that's what some of the audience members thought. They had asked their leader to finish him off but this form of torture was a little too much for them.
If it weren't for his high ranking, the bear claw guy would have died a long time ago. In fact, he was alive because Jin Chen wanted him alive. In his anger, he made sure he would survive. Someone had sent this man and he had to get to the bottom of it.
When he was finally done venting his anger he retracted his flame from the whip and said, "Challenge me once and I will be lenient but challenge me twice then you better be fucking ready to meet your end."
