Chapter 7: Witnessing his first battle

He snapped back from his thoughts and looked around the walls, which were filled with mission boards. On it were plenty of missions that had either been released by the sect or by someone within the sect by paying a fee.

Ren Ying, without looking or finding a new 'worthy mission', walked directly to the mission board that he had his eyes on and took down the mission called "Hunt down a hundred Spiky Rabbits."

He handed the mission paper details to the guy responsible for noting everything down while sitting behind the counter.

Just as Ren Ying had arrived in front of the counter and placed the mission paper down on the counter. The guy behind it stopped writing and put down his ink pen.

When their eyes met, Ren Ying spoke politely, "Senior brother, I would like to take on this mission."

The senior picked up the mission paper, and upon seeing the title of the mission, he immediately knew what he had to know.

He looked up and asked Ren Ying, "You are aware that the Spiky Rabbit was close to impossible to catch due to its fast and tricky movement, right?"

"Yes, I had read everything carefully, which is why I decided to take on this mission to improve my movement technique." Ren Ying replied.

"Hmm... A few days ago, a guy like you also took on this mission with the same intention as you.

Anyways, you are aware that if you were to fail the mission, you would have to pay a fee, right?"

"Yes, I am indeed aware of such things, senior brother." Ren Ying said it with a look of determination in his eyes.

Seeing this, the guy behind the counter no longer talked, he picked up a seal and pinned it down on the mission paper, leaving a sect logo on it.

"Make sure not to lose this mission paper, and keep in mind that you have a whole month to complete this mission, so take your time and good luck with that." The guy reminded Ren Ying carefully as he handed the mission paper back to him.

"Thank you, senior brother, I'll keep this in mind." Ren Ying bowed and put the mission paper inside his cloth after taking it from the guy.

Then he ran toward the main gate of the sect, which was mainly use for entering and leaving the sect.

The gate were worthy of being the entrance and exit of the strongest sect in this small region; beside the gate stood 4 guards.

The guards were responsible for guarding the door and preventing people from leaving without a reason or permission. They were also there to stop any suspicious individual from going in and out freely.

Ren Ying couldn't see through their cultivation as a rank 1 mid-cultivator, almost on the verge of breaking through another higher realm.

When he got close to the gate, guards didn't look at him with much caution, nor did they treat him too severely. After all, coming out of the sect without being seen entering it was like saying, "I am a disciple of this sect. I had joined the sect for a long time, but I rarely went out of it."

One of the guards approached Ren Ying, and he asked, "You are going out on a mission, right? Show me your mission paper, and I'll let you go without wasting any of your time."

"I am indeed going out on a mission; here is my mission paper, senior brother." Ren Ying took out his mission paper slowly, so as not to startle the guard, and passed it on to him.

When the guard received the mission paper, he looked at everything carefully, especially the sect seal, for fear of accidentally allowing trouble to slip in.

If a spy sneaked in successfully, then the punishment would fall on them, so every time someone passed by the gate, these guards must check everything just like how they were instructed and trained.

A while later, the guard saw nothing wrong with the mission paper, he relaxed himself, smiled, and gave Ren Ying back his mission paper, as he said. "There is nothing wrong with your mission paper; you can go out.

Good luck on your journey fellow junior."

"Thanks you, senior brother." Ren Ying thanked him while taking his mission paper away from the guard's hand and walking out of the gate.

Standing outside the gate, Ren Ying looked around and wished himself good luck on this journey.

After that, he ran away from the sect gate normally, so as not to expose his thunder trace to other people. Anyone could become your enemy, so being safe with them and not revealing any important information like your card and stuff from the start would always be a good decision.

After he got farther away from the sect, Ren Ying no longer hid his movement technique and took off in full speed using Thunder Trace.

His direction was toward the Spiky Forest, known for being the home of the Spiky Rabbits. But Ren Ying didn't go there directly, as he had other plan in mind.

...

"Hand over your space ring, and I will spare you." Said Liang Chen, armed with a sword.

"You want me to hand over my life-belonging? Keep on dreaming." Zhang Wei clenched his teeth and took out his weapon as he replied.

"Don't say that I didn't give you any chance when your ancestor in hell asks you later on." Seeing that the other party didn't want to comply with his request, Liang Chen lost his patience and charged toward him.

Zhang Wei gripped his weapon tightly while waiting for Liang Chen to arrive closer to him.

"Huh! Why are you so scared to move now? Weren't you acting tough just now?" Liang Chen mocked him, but his movement only kept getting faster.

When Liang Chen arrived within the attacking range, Zhang Wei swung his weapon out without much precision but compensated by fast and fierce motion.

Liang Chen seemed to have predicted it, moved out his sword just in time to block the attack coming toward him.

Zhang Wei's hand shook visibly upon the conflict of two weapons, he frowned slightly.

Seeing this, Liang Chen looked at him playfully and said, "Now do you see the difference between you and me?"

Zhang Wei ignored him and kept on using more strength as to keep up from losing this first confrontation.

Liang Chen saw that he got ignored, smiled crazily, and continued, "Hahaha, do you regret it now?"

"Don't be too arrogant, you bastard." Zhang Wei finally replied to his provocation.

Just when Liang Chen wanted to reply, he saw his opponent back down from the confrontation and appear on his left side, changing the tide of the fight.

While these two people were fighting, one was trying to rob the other, and the other was trying to protect their valuable belongings from being taken away.

A pair of eyes blinking once in a while, hidden deep into the forest, close to these two people, was constantly observing them.

Ren Ying saw that everything did happen according to what he saw in those visions, which confirmed that his innate pupil truly existed.

Yet he wasn't happy; his mind was on the battle going on in front of him right now.

Ren Ying contemplated on what he should do in this situation.

'Should I save the other guy or not?'

'But what if he attack me after i wasted my energy saving him?'

Before seeing this battle, Ren Ying planned on waiting until Liang Chen, who would encounter the opportunity on this journey, became exhausted first before he appeared and finished him off, silencing him for good.

Now, seeing such a thing take place in front of him, Ren Ying hesitated whether to save Zhang Wei or not.

If he chose to save him, it would disrupt his careful plan.

Just as he had trouble making decision, the memories of how cruel this world appeared inside his mind.

The scene of people being killed brutally by bandits and the countless corpses of people who died in many unimaginable ways scattered everywhere, that had the existence of humans.

Even on his way here, Ren Ying saw a lot of corpses, some still had blood flowing out of them as they were still fresh, and some were simply pure skeletons.

'I don't want to end up like those people...'

'If I were to be in his place, would he save me? Of course not.'

'Just because the other is being robbed does not mean that person is a good person, after all, even a thief would have their moneys or stuff stolen by the other thief sometime.'

'So, why should I save him?'

After Ren Ying made his choice, his eyes turned a bit empty as he continued to wait for the right time to attack.

'This is going to be my first time getting my hand bloody, will I be fine?' He questioned himself.

Only now did Ren Ying know the difficulty of living in a cultivation world.

Chapter 8: The dark side of cultivation world

Zhang Wei kept dodging the precise sword strike released by Liang Chen.

Zhang Wei had an advantage in terms of speed, but he couldn't escape from his opponent due to missing out on the chance to run away.

As a wind-type cultivator, he had underestimated Liang Chen for being a swordman, and Zhang Wei, before engaging in this battle, thought that no matter how deadly one attack could be, its not worth mentioning if it doesn't land on you.

Unfortunately for him, his speed did surpass that of Liang Chen for a while, but it didn't last long as his stamina and physique couldn't keep it up. This allowed Liang Chen to eventually catch up to him, retaking the battle momentum under his control.

The attacks, each full of killing intent, were coming toward him at a speed as stable as the blowing wind on a clear day.

Zhang Wei kept on blocking and dodging, refusing to confront his opponent head-on, just like he did at the beginning of the battle.

His expression grew colder as his opponent's speed seemed to be getting faster. Deep down, he knew that his opponent wasn't getting faster; it was just him who was getting slower.

Seeing that he couldn't win this battle, Zhang Wei accepted it unwillingly as he used his fast speed movement to distance himself from his opponent and spoke in a begging tone, "Brother, how about we end this battle? You wanted my space ring, right?"

Liang Chen stood still without continuing to attack him. He wanted to see what Zhang Wei was going to do next.

"Here, take this." Zhang Wei, without waiting for Liang Chen to respond, took off his space ring and tossed his belongings over.

"Heh, what have I told you since the beginning?" Liang Chen replied with an unserious expression on his face.

Seeing his expression, Zhang Wei's heart beat faster as he breathed in and out deeply. He knew that Liang Chen didn't even spare a single second at the thought of sparing him.

"So, you wanted to go at it until the end, huh?" Zhang Wei looked up at the sky and cursed his luck for meeting a fighting beast like his opponent today.

He gathered his remaining energy and qi as he hardened his grip on his sword handle.

Liang Chen watched over him without doing anything in a playful manner, waiting for Zhang Wei to make the first move.

Zhang Wei whose eyes had a trace of craziness slowly appearing on it, understood his opponent's intention. So, he lunged over without delaying any longer, as it was just a matter of dying sooner or later for him.

he got close to his opponent in the blink of an eye using his wind-type movement technique, and swung his sword out, directed at his opponent.

Liang Chen wanted to counter him by fending off his attack and finishing him off in one strike. Little did he expect that, when he was about to successfully fend off his opponent's attack.

Zhang Wei let go of his sword as he moved to Liang Chen's side. Inside his left hand, that was always holding nothing, wind current spanned in a circle, getting faster and bigger.

Within a short amount of time, he got behind Liang Chen. The wind that was spinning inside his left palm now, made Liang Chen felt threatened from behind his back.

Without waiting for Liang Chen to turn around, Zhang Wei threw it at the back of his opponent.

BANG...

Zhang Wei flew back, hitting the ground.

The surrounding area turned smoky as the wind current that Zhang Wei threw out, gathered it all in one spot and blasted it back out when the wind current exploded after hitting his opponent.

He looked around, trying to find the figure of his opponent, then turned to observe his palm, that had lost most of its skin after using that wind blast. Bloods continued to flow out, yet he felt no pain due to being in an adrenaline rush state.

'I did it.' Zhang Wei relaxed his muscles while forming a smile on his face.

But then, he could see a figure of a person slightly blurry walking out of the midst of smokes. His expression dropped down.

"DAMN IT." He roared toward the sky in anger.

"Hahaha, that attack scared me for a second." Liang Chen walked to Zhang Wei unsteadily and slowly as he coughed out blood from time to time.

"Do you think that I'm only after your belongings?" He asked Zhang Wei playfully.

"Not after my belongings? Then why? why? We don't have any grudges against each other, so why did you do this." Zheng Wei asked calmly as he came to accept his fate.

"What do you think is the most precious thing for any individual human?"

Without waiting for Zheng Wei to reply, Liang Chen continued, "Is it wealth? Fame? Power?"

"None of the above is their most precious thing. You want to know what their most precious thing is? IT IS THEIR LIFE!"

"And the reaction that they gave off before you took this thing is quite amusing to me, you know." Liang Chen smiled widely with a lunatic look in his eye.

"You're not a human... You're a freaking beast, you monster." Zheng Wei shouted in debrief.

"Hahaha, is that so? Well, good luck meeting human in the underworld." Liang Chen had arrived in front of Zheng Wei, he raised his sword up and ended Zheng Wei.

He turned calm and looked at the lifeless corpse falling weakly onto the ground.

Thud...

"Hah, I need to be more cautious in the future." Liang Chen sat down next to the corpse as he grasped for air without knowing that a person was eyeing him right now, waiting for his weakest moment.

Ren Ying who hid on a tree that one could never find unless they looked for it carefully or had a sensory technique to scan their surroundings.

He had watched the entire battle from the start till its end, while trying not to expose himself.

While observing the battle, Ren Ying was also preparing and changing his mental state, ready to finish off Liang Chen.

At this moment, Ren Ying took out his only one-star weapon. With his mental state ready, he recited silently to himself, 'Thunder Trace'

Whoosh.

The tree shook slightly as his figure disappeared from it, appearing right behind Liang Chen within a second.

Liang Chen felt a threat sensation on his neck, he wanted to move away but Ren Ying was faster than him.

Ren Ying aimed his sword, which constantly emitted blue electivity due to it being coated with thunder, toward Liang Chen's.

Zzzzzz

When the sword appeared on the other side of his skin, Liang Chen's body dropped next to Zheng Wei weakly. Looking at this scene, Ren Ying had the urge to vomit, but he managed to hold it in since he was prepared.

He breathed in and out deeply as his body shook nonstop.

'I killed a person...'

Countless thoughts related to regret, self-doubt, and guilt generated by his subconscious thought were trying to penetrate his mind. He stood there motionlessly as he tried to calm himself down.

Eventually he shut down all of those thought, as he said to himself, "So what? In order to survive in this world, I can't be a soft-hearted person."

Ren Ying looked up to the sky and muttered quietly to himself, "Is my transmigration to this world a curse or a blessing?"

After he got his hand bloody for the first time in this cultivation world, he recalled how peaceful and gentle life was on Earth. Up until now, Ren Ying had never thought about his previous home.

He had always focused on the bright side of the cultivation world, like getting stronger, becoming a one-man army, flying, and manipulating fire and stuff. Only when he transmigrated into this world, getting involved deeper and deeper in it, did he realize how dark a cultivation world could be.

Just like how he had to silence Liang Chen to make his plans foolproof. If he didn't silence him with this given chance, then he would have to face him head-on later on, unless he chose to give up on snatching this opportunity.

But Ren Ying couldn't afford to let go of such a good opportunity, so he had no choice but to ambush him, a rank 1 late realm cultivator.

He couldn't take him on with his full strength for now as his opponent's realm was higher than him, while he wasn't the strongest in his realm due to a lack of techniques like attacking technique, body tempering, and many more.

This truth made Ren Ying wake up from the dream of fighting people in a higher realm than him.

"Not now, but one day I will definitely fight people with a higher realm than mine." He promised himself as he accepted his current strength calmly.

'Let's hope that this people space ring got some heaven-defying stuff, hehe." Ren Ying overcame his guilt temporarily as he excitedly picked up his battle spoils.
