Chapter 1: Intro

Darkness lives in everyone, even the nicest people have some essence of darkness in their hearts and souls. Darkness has the ability to alter and change ones mind, thoughts, beliefs, and even their overall appearance. The world is full of light and happiness, but as long as there is light and happiness, there will be darkness and despair.

Malik Smith, a boy who found out, even if just a little, of the horrors the world contains at a young age. He was just 8 when he witnessed his parents untimely demise during a home evasion. His parents had told him to hide while they went to confront and stop the intruders, but from his hiding place he saw the exact opposite. Whoever these masked men were, they knew his parents somehow because they said their names, and the way they killed Malik's parents, they couldn't have been human. And by some crazy miracle they are, they were monsters nonetheless.

Malik's family weren't normal, and as he grew up, he learned that his parents deaths were because of just that. Malik's family, well ancestors were well known demons, well not even just well known, feared by the majority of the world for centuries. If not for the fall of the demon army many years ago, Malik would now be crowned as the demon king, hence his father's death. It's a good thing and a bad thing that Malik has no idea of his family's history and impact on the world he lives in alone today. For if he did, he would have lived his life in fear and paranoia.

The rain poured down angry from the sky, lives all over unchanged and unaffected by the imminent war unknown to them. The humans largest kingdom, Reiner, was plotting to march towards the orc army by sunrise the next day. Reiner's king, King James, was a smart and strategic man, he was considered the smartest man on Earth since his reign as king began 20 years ago. Not only was he smart, but he was also mindful of his actions, and always thought and planned the next move based on the outcome of this action. King James had three children, two boys and one girl. Henry, Alex, and Maria were their names. Henry and Alex were what you called 'perfect opposites'. Henry was impulsive, he always moved and acted based on his feelings and thoughts, while Alex was as shared with his father, strategic. He moved and acted based on his quick planning of any situation.

Maria was the youngest, she had the heart of a knight, and wits of a mage, but she lacked the motive and inspiration. Maria was what many considered a 'prodigy', and she was. Not only was she gifted in magic, but she had the gift of controlling the four main elements of the world. Water, Earth, Fire, Air. From a young age she was wanted by the top magic schools, and even private mages who were top class. She trained all her life, up until she reached 15 when she just stopped. "It's boring" she answered when her father asked her, "Why is it boring?" James responded with his own question. Maria looked at him, "Why should I learn magic to do nothing with it?" she asked back again with her own question. King James had no answer.

While the humans planned their course of action, the orc lord planned his. Orc had a bad name, many thought they were just dumb creatures with great size and strength. That was far from the truth, orcs were one of the smartest creatures in the world, not only were they smart, but they were born warriors, they excelled in combat. The orc lord, Sharog, planned to travel mid way then stop and wait for the humans. They planned to wait until they were charged to then counterattack.

Humans and Orcs have been at war only four years now, that is a very short time compared to the other wars that have taken place in history. If you were wondering who was winning, the answer would be neither, or at least it's a tie. You see for four years the orcs and humans have been going back and forth, either the orcs take over human territory, then humans take it back, or humans take over orc territory and then orcs take it back. Before the war humans and orcs weren't the best of friends, they barely interacted. This war began because some humans from another kingdom, Paradis, attacked an orc camp site. The orcs did not take this lightly, and they since declared war against humans. Now the orcs were lied to, into thinking Kingdom Reiner, attacked their camp. King James had no other choice but to defend himself, or his kingdom would most likely be destroyed.

Meanwhile on the opposite side of the Orc v. Human war, dark elves were trying their best to change their reputation. Dark elves were the largest elven species, and were the most disliked. They were seen as sneaky spies, and were thought of as very untrustworthy. Dark Elves of the new generations were different from one before, during the time of the Great Demon Lord Rah's reign 100 years ago, dark elves were spies and had to be sneaky and quick to survive. They were always in the middle of wars and were attacked unjustly many times.

The main settlement, or kingdom, Lohil, was ruled by the elven king and queen, Siveril and Alanis. They were wise elves, although despite their age they were rather young, elves had quite the life span, even if their age were 3 digits, they were still young to some. Alvia and Ester were the children of Siveril and Alanis. Alvia looked just like their mother, and Ester looked just like their father. Elves were magic in itself, meaning they were magic, because of this they were just naturally gifted in magic. Dark elves had a specific gift for Shadow magic. The elves did their best to stay away from conflict at all cost, not only were they good in magic, they were fast and agile. They had the perfect build for a spy or an assassin. Because of this perfect builds, not only dark elves, but elves in general were masters with not only magic, but weapons such as bow and arrows, daggers, and short swords.

Malik journeyed down the path in the rain, he didn't really know where he was going, but he did know that there was someplace he needed to get to. He once again didn't know where or what this place was, but he knew that it was important to him in some way. Malik being a demon was naturally strong, he was extremely durable, and he was also fast. Being a demon, he could specialize in any weapon he put his mind to, as well as a human, or any species could for that matter truly. Malik had only heard of magic, but he never saw nor learned about it. As you can probably guess, he has never practiced magic in his life.

Malik had seen his parents die 8 years ago. Since their untimely death, he was broken in a way that could never be fixed, he was damaged not physically, but mentally and emotionally. He closed himself off from the world, not trusting anyone but himself, he was always ready for the worst to happen, and was paranoid at everyone he was around. In the direction he was traveling was a kingdom. Although not as big as Kingdom Reiner, or even Kingdom Paradis, Kingdom Valor, was big enough to surprise Malik. He had never seen an actual kingdom before, and even though his face was emotionless, he was genuinely surprised.

Malik was on a journey that would change the world. Not only did his destiny have a huge impact on others he hasn't even met yet, but he has an important role in changing the world they know now. Malik wasn't ready for the new pain and suffering he would have to endure soon. With that only one question stands. What will Malk do when faced with something more important than his own life??
