Chapter 234: Chapter 39 Find them
It was the girl whom Regina met before. She slowly made her way to her, standing in front of the cell with a dark face. She seemed to know about the key as she pulled out something out of the pocket while trying to open the door.
" Is it you, Magana? Why are you here?"
The woman next to their cell recognized the girl and spoke with a low tone. The all prisoners approached their cell doors and looked at the girls with different faces.
" Your mother isn't here anymore. She has been taken to the arms of the gods. Why did you come back to this hellhole? Hurry up and leave."
The woman wanted her to leave because she and others knew about her mother who was a beloved figure in High Sand. She was the former orphanage director and nun who decided to live here with her only biological child. Unfortunately, the current lord found her appealing to his eyes and abducted her.
She was tortured to her death as she cursed the lord with shame. Fortunately, she managed to hide her child from him and left some food for the prisoners. She was their guardian angel and last hope before passing away.
" This sister saved me when I was hungry. I need to break her out."
Magara fudged with a serious face, trying to open the door with her lockpicking skill. Her tiny fingers were dancing between the tools with sweat.
" It is no use child. The lock has been enchanted by me. Without the correct key, you can't open it. Magic and mana users could open it rather easily but we are sealed by that bastard and none of us can use it."
The old man grumbled, clenching his fists with anger on his old face. He was forced to create this cell for the lord in exchange for his family, but the lord didn't keep his word as they were living in the slums.
" Hmm, then it is a bit troublesome."
Agam who was leaning on the wall spoke with a calm face. He gently touched the bars, feeling multiple layers of magic and reinforced metal that would imprison even those who had monstrous physical power. However, he felt puzzled due to the price of this prison. Even high-ranking nobles couldn't afford something like this easily much less mayor of this city.
" There is something wrong here. Old man, you told us that you built this prison. Do you know the exact market price of the material and enchantment?"
Leah asked while folding her arms with a deep look. She took a gist of what Agam was trying to convey.
" It took me 2 years to build this place. If I am correct it was around 200 celestial coins which is equivalent to 20000 gold coins. "
The old man remembered the precise prices of the materials because it was the biggest project in his life.
" That is impossible. Even with the tax evasion and government money, that money is far more than a decade worth of this city funds."
The thin man spoke lightly. He was the former accountant of a famous merchant and he knew the insides of the noble circle and law.
" I heard him mumbling about some kind of a cult in his sleep. If I recall correctly, it was called Blood Cult."
The woman who was in the corner cell said with a pale face despite others' reactions. Suddenly, one of the men in the cell hit the wall and his knuckles got bloody.
" Damn it, so they were backing him up. No wonder he didn't worry about his money and churches. I should have known sooner."
He mumbled slowly, feeling dizzy from the sudden blood rush in his head.
" Bishop Wakin, do you know about that Cult?"
The old man asked as other prisoners on the same floor listened to his words. There was no guard here and the hall was pretty spacious, so his words could echo from his cell.
" Of course. They are a bunch of lunatics who worship the God of Blood. They are one of the oldest cults and each member of the Cult is highly wanted by the churches."
He put the last nail in his coffin with his words.
