Chapter 41: Chapter 36 I should have stopped
Lisha never liked the tradition of the iceborns. She despised this old tradition because it caused a huge number of casualties in their population and it hindered their development since other countries relied on their mages and scientists to develop. So, she wanted to change this, but she couldn't do this alone. Therefore, she meticulously planned her future and the most important element was an ally that could support her.
Now, she found her ally. A young boy that would become a great person. She felt this way and her guts never betrayed her.
" No, nothing like that. I want you to be my pact holder."
She said while dodging his bewildered looks. Technically, it was a line of married couples because a pact holder never makes an oath to betray each. Hence, this oath was in some way a marriage agreement.
Moreover, Licht who read a lot clearly understood her words. He was shocked to hear such an outrageous request.
" No! What do you mean? We have just met. I can't marry a stranger. This is too much."
He said with a sharp look. Like he would marry a stranger. His parents would skin him alive even if it was a fake marriage.
" No, it is not a marriage. Don't misunderstand me. I want you to be my friend that could help me to change this rural area."
She said with a blush which was rare for her. She was flustered to look at him because he understood it wrong.
" Ah! I am sorry. In that case, I can help you on certain occasions, but I won't be next to you always. Besides, why do you want me?"
He spoke with a hinge of confusion in his tone.
" No, I have observed you from far. Only you could help me to achieve my dream. I know you are a special person."
She muttered in a quiet voice. Her words slowly drifted into Licht's ears. Licht was flattered to hear such praise, but he wouldn't be swayed that easily.
" Even if I help you, I won't fight your enemies. Are you sure that you want me to be your partner?"
His eyes were questioning her decisions. Lisha returned to her cold face.
" I don't regret my decisions. Besides, I will help you to stabilize that power inside you."
She said while placing her finger on his chest. She finally understood what was so attractive about him. It wasn't his face or body. He was a same-powered being like her. In other words, he had a power that could form true ice.
" You know about this power?"
Licht said with a frown. Although he suspected it might be related to the true ice, he never considered it to be the true ice since only icebergs could harness their power thanks to their body constitution.
" True ice, you should have already guessed its identity."
She said with a light yet mysterious tone. However, this statement threw Licht's thoughts way too far. He couldn't fathom why he got this power from that wolf. What was the point of it?
" I see. So, you are going to teach me about controlling this power in exchange for my oath. Well, I don't see a problem."
Licht said while extending his hand. Lisha's eyes lit up with joy because she had completed her task. Although Licht wasn't powerful like Regina or Daemon, he had the greatest potential in his squad and his talent was enough to overshadow any individuals.
" Thank you."
Lisha said while shaking his head. She took out an old parchment from her robes and opened it. It had ancient runes and symbols that symbolized the gods of the North.
Lisha bit her finger and dropped her blood on it. Licht raised his eyebrows, but he had no choice. He also followed her steps and made a pact with her.
" You idiot, do you know what that means?"
Viktor roared inside his head. He couldn't talk to Licht due to the shortage of mana since Licht was holding the ice with his mana.
" You can't destroy or betray this contract now. This is a testament to the old gods. Ugh, damn it. I should have told you sooner. There is a hidden meaning in this context that even iceborns don't know. It is the curse which could cause death to the user."
