Chapter 120: Chapter 27 Story of the young priest
When I was young, I heard the voice of God, no it was the voice of the holy light. It was calling me to join its church. Therefore, I joined the church of the light which was declining at that time.
Life was hard, not owning any wealth from a young age, and not gaining any knowledge about magic and science made it difficult because I was born as a frail child. My parents didn't have any money or power to send me to the prestigious school, but they were loving people. Although they were poor, they helped and fed every poor person that they had met in their lives. That is why I have decided to become a priest who would help others despite my lack of mana and divine power.
The Light never abandoned me for I was able to use high-ranking divine spells. I didn't know the reason for my unnatural powers, but I thanked the light for it by praying every day.
My teacher was a loving nun who taught others for free. She was respected and beloved by everyone, unlike the other church's priests or apostles. She always said that we had to be kind to other living beings even if they were bugs or demons until her very last breath.
I heeded her words throughout my life as I had settled down in the most dangerous area of Crown without any fear or greed in my heart. Some said I could take the donation and live well off through the rest of my life, but I hated that idea of being peaceful. All I wanted to do is help others by giving them new goals and hopes for their future in this dark area.
When I came here first, I saw the filthy and lifeless looks in those eyes which hardened my resolve to stay here. If others abandoned this place, I wouldn't abandon this place for my light and their light. Hence, I created a church that can bring joy and laughter to others' faces.
" Welcome."
I pinned down the signboard and waited for the first arrival of my guests, but no one arrived there on the first day. It didn't matter to me as I had to prepare food and water for the poor souls.
1 month later, there were a few guests in my church, seeking food and shelter from the danger. I had given my all to keep them safe before I met my first child.
" Waagh*"
She was crying on the stairs while getting drenched by the acid rain. My heart immediately broke when I saw her helpless face.
" Who could have done such a horrible thing!"
I said, hugging the child in my arms. I took her in and raised her to be a great merchant after she reached adulthood. She wasn't my only child as our family grew bigger along with wrinkles on my face. Perhaps, I didn't have that much time left, but at least I could see the happy faces of my children and believers who always helped in my hardship.
As I grew older, I understood why my teacher loved others because my love for others was getting deeper. I was no longer a young priest who was just kind and loving, I became their father and spiritual pillar. Therefore, my life was important to them.
" Father, why didn't you drink my gift medicine? Your body is getting eroded in this hell hole."
My eldest daughter said, pushing the medicine into my arms. As a divine priest, my body was extremely resistant to poison and dark energies which included acid. It wasn't a useful thing to me, so I gifted it to the elder in the upper street.
The time had passed since her last visit. I was worried about her because she had to travel a lot, but I hid my worry in my heart as I cared for my other children.
Those who were abandoned by others were the most hardworking and intelligent people in the world. Especially my children Yvonne and Yeager were clever as their older siblings. Yvonne is a gifted girl who had high intelligence and mana, Yeager has the highest potential to be a knight. I hope I can see their shine in my life.
