Chapter 156: Cunning and cold blood

The group of mercenaries was in a state of absolute alertness, weapons at the ready, and techniques poised to be unleashed in all directions.

"Show yourself, you wretch!" one of the men shouted angrily, seemingly attempting a futile act to provoke or establish superiority over the assassin who had attacked them earlier.

As futile as this cry might sound, he had used the same tactic in a previous ambush. The attacker that time made the fatal mistake of laughing at the embattled group's situation and indulging in a monologue, thus revealing that their intellectual capacity wasn't particularly impressive. As expected, the attacker was swiftly located and ultimately executed.

The mercenary continued shouting more words, hoping to elicit a similar reaction, ranging from insults to requests, from crude language to well-crafted offenses directed at the assassin and their descendants. However, unlike in the previous ambush, this assassin remained completely silent.
