Chapter 22: Sargon's Opponent
The new day was tackled quickly. They ate and then they went out of the cave. While there were fewer monsters in this much larger area, they were all malachite and above.
They encountered a pack of Wind Monkeys, some Wood Lizards, Lesser Rocs, and other malachite-level creatures. It went on like this for half a day. It wasn't until the afternoon that they spotted an ebony-level monster. The monster was a Crystal Lizard, highly regenerative and tough crystal carapace across the body. Various physical. crystal, and neutral magic attacks. At 2.5 meters tall and 5 meters long, it was a fast and strong monster with great agility.
Sargon turned to his companions, "This monster is mine, you two can continue the hunt without me while I fight it." They wanted to protest, but they knew it wouldn't sway him. They left Sargon with his opponent.
The Crystal Lizard was chewing on a mana crystal when Sargon approached it. It stopped chewing and stood up. It flared its crystal hairs and hissed at Sargon. He just took his stance and taunted it, "Come at me you sparkling fugly fuck." The lizard did not take kindly to the taunt and attacked immediately.
It attacked in angles instead of the head using claw attacks. Sargon was able to block them, but the lizard got faster. He couldn't yet continue, so it blocked a claw and stepped into its chest with a shoulder charge. The lizard was pushed back from the attack. Next, Sargon began his attack of slashes and thrusts. The lizard jumped back and he used an astral slash. The lizard put up a barrier that reflected the astral slash back at Sargon. It was unexpected and his footing wasn't solid when he blocked it. The lizard attacked from the side and whipped its tail. Blocking the tail pushed Sargon away.
"Well then, Sparkles has some moves, hehe." Sargon loosed another astral slash and as the barrier was put up in front of it, he boosted his speed to get behind it. The lizard flared and ejected its crystal hairs to counter-attack. Sargon had to block it. Neither of them had been injured at this point.
"A worthy opponent indeed." They continued to clash and Sargon was trying anything he could think of to break its defense. He decided to try baiting it instead. He showed an opening during their exchange and it took the bait. It went in for a double claw attack, but they were blown away and it had become wide open. Sargon was about to thrust into its chest, but it opened its mouth and loosed a breath attack of neutral mana.
The attack grazed Sargon and pushed him back, "Shit, it keeps showing tricks whenever I'm about to deliver a dangerous blow."
Now he was going to force it to use everything it had. He attacked using astral slashes and thrusts, forcing it to make barriers. He boosted to its blind spots, forcing it to eject hairs. He boosted in front and broke its guard, making it loose its breath attack. Its breath attack was strong, but it wasn't a very solid stream. Instead of blocking he loosed a strong astral slash to cut through the breath attack.
It worked and the lizard now had a cut on its face and mouth. As he stepped forward to deliver a deep thrust to try and finish the lizard, it shot its tail between its legs and pierced his armor. Before it could go too deep, Sargon swatted it out with his shield and stepped back. Now they had both received an attack and were bleeding.
"I need to trick its senses or I will not be able to land a lethal blow.", he muttered. They continued to clash while he thought about this. He decided to try and mimic his presence using astra. It took a minute before he had some success and used it to score a slash on its left side that left a gash. He got excited now. He started using boost while mimicking his presence, confusing it and which one is real since it could not follow his speed completely. This allowed him to get even more attacks in.
The lizard had gotten haggard at his point. Sargon decided to go in for the kill. To be sure that the attack will work, he tried hiding his presence and making another mimic presence to further confuse its senses. It took two more minutes of fighting for him to succeed. Now it was time for the kill.
He sent two mimics to the back and the side while he attacked from above. He struck the back of the neck and severed the spine, ending the fight.
"I haven't faced such a resourceful opponent since coming to this world. Especially a monster, the orc lord was nothing compared to this lizard, it was cunning."
Sargon took the body and went to meet up with Pharis and Yeseme. He had only fought for around 20 minutes, but they move fast and would've covered a lot of ground by now. It took him 5 minutes to catch up to them. He sighed when he saw they were getting swarmed by a bunch of spiders. The spiders themselves were weak individually, but they were a swarm. They didn't look even a little tired, but he wanted to join in. Before he could enter the fight, Pharis called out to him.
"Master, Sis Yeseme, and I will take care of the spiders! It'll be too easy if you join in! Please just watch or something!"
Sargon chuckled and sat on a tree branch and leaned against a trunk while using his new skill to hide his presence. He didn't want to take any enemies from his squire and Yeseme.
He sat there and decided to snack on some meat jerky while they were having their fun against the hundreds-strong swarm of spiders.
