Chapter 27: A Little Bit of Luck?
Nicole was soon left alone in the room.
She looked around the room and realized that all the things she would need to make an outfit were already there. Thinking about the words the director had left her, she laughed.
This was like a pop quiz; the director was the teacher, and she was the student. This quiz only had one question but over a hundred answers, and she had to pick the right one.
The answer wasn't solely about her choice of makeup and clothes; it was also about the image she would project in other words, what character she would take on. The director had hidden a question inside another question. It isn't just about how she looked but even her temperament. Depending on her answer the story could have many different endings.
If for instance, she dressed similarly to one of the two swans and had a quiet aura then she could play the part of the third sister caught in one of her sister's shadow. Finally, her yearning for the prince could simply be because she wanted to come out of this shadow and the prince was the solution.
Like this there were many possibilities.
Still like every test there will be an answer. There was probably more than one answer to this question, but each of those answers ranged from good to excellent and would determine if this cooperation between Nicole and the director would be short or lasting.
Like this, the director had provided the opportunity, and if she could grasp it, then she would have something to rely on in the future.
Now all that was left was to get the best answer she possibly could.
Nicole started to ponder on this issue, creating the image or style wasn't hard but deciding on her role was the actual challenge.
The director would definitely have left her clues to point her in the right direction if not this wouldn't be a test of talent but rather one of luck. If there was no direction all one could do was aim in the dark and hope for the best.
In life luck definitely was important and between a person with terrible luck and one with good luck it was apparent who a director would want to work with, but luck wasn't something to count one. If given a choice between luck and talent the latter was obviously more reliable. However, if one could have both wouldn't that be better?
So the director must definitely have given her a hint just enough for her to give a satisfactory or even above average performance if she had the capability but to do something spectacular she would definitely need a little bit of luck.
So there were three types of answers in this test.
The first was just satisfactory meaning she just barely past the threshold of what the director considered passable. In this case, she wouldn't be kicked off the set, and the audition would go as planned, but her opportunity with the director would be dead.
The second type ended with her not having the luck to make a character that amazes the director, but her talent would be enough to create a high enough quality product to be recognized by the director. Here she would be able to build a connection with the director and pave a way for herself.
Finally, the last type was to create a character that would astound even the director and create a hit with this commercial. For this, she didn't just need talent.
Think up to this point Nicole knew she could only do her best. Even if she couldn't get the last answer type, she definitely had to get the second type. Opportunity doesn't always come knocking so since it had knocked on her door; it shouldn't think of escaping.
At that instant, Nicole remembered something the director had said. He hadn't mentioned it directly, but he had told someone else to tell her.
'Hmm, if it's like this, then I definitely have something in mind' Nicole thought before smiling and getting to work on her outfit.
