Catherine was negotiating her company's next film project, "The Help," at an Italian cafe on Sunset Boulevard when she received a call from Jennifer Lawrence.

"The Help" is set in Mississippi in 1962, at the height of the African American civil rights movement across the United States. Despite this, society was still deeply influenced by the legacy of slavery, and in the homes of white families, many black maids still faced unequal treatment.

The story's main character is a white girl raised by a black nanny. After learning about the injustices faced by black maids, she decides to interview those working in white households and write a book about their hardships, using this as a way to help them fight for equality.

The script was adapted from the novel of the same name published last year, "The Help."
