Chapter 3: Chapter 2
[Carla's Pov]
Director Adams called in Agent Chris and he was now sitting down calmly beside me.
I was drinking a cup of tea that Adams had given me while he was talking with Chris.
I studied Chris while drinking the tea cause I was bored. It has become an habit to observe things or people when I am bored and I get even more information when I do.
Chris has blond hair with emerald green eyes. His hair was perfectly gelled to the back, he made sure that the gel wasn't more than needed neither was it less than what was necessary. His clothes were spotless and fashionable which helped to make him more attractive. From what I observed about his appearance, he must really care about how he looks and what impression he gives others.
I rose my cup to my lips to take a sip and hide my smirk.
I had noticed something else about him.
"As you know Chris, the crime rate in the city has skyrocketed during the past month and priceless items were stolen even though the items were returned back, this is still a bad thing. Detective Carla has told me about her suspicions on the crimes, she thinks they are all connected together and I believe her" Adams explained as he paused to look at me for a second.
Chris also glanced at me before turning his attention back to Adams.
"I understand what you are saying but are you assigning me on a mission to stop the crimes or stop their plans?" Chris asked with a small smirk.
"Neither. I am assigning you to work with Carla, get the mastermind and ruin their plan" Adams said as Chris frowned a little.
"With all due respect sir, I don't think that a girl should be part of this kind of thing" Chris said gesturing towards me.
"Let me also remind you that I am a lady, not a girl" I said calmly as I dropped the cup without even looking at him.
I refilled my cup calmly but didn't pick the cup to drink the tea.
From the corner of my eyes, I noticed Chris looked slightly surprised that I didn't get angry and cause a scene like he expected me to.
I faced him and crossed my legs as I folded my hands and smirked.
"Also, it was the same girl that you think shouldn't be involved in this that came up with the deduction in the first place, not you. It isn't like you would been assigned to this if not for me, in fact, you are the one that shouldn't be part of this" I said calmly, still smirking.
"I think you may have forgotten but I am the top agent, what disqualifies me from being part of this?" He asked with an arrogant smirk.
"Even if you are the top agent, that doesn't make you on top of anyone, in fact, there are a lot of people that have an higher position than yours" I said mockenly as he gritted his teeth.
I smirked amusedly at his reaction.
That was what I noticed about him; He is an ambitious person, he wants to be at the very top, no wonder he is the top agent in the agency.
Even though being ambitious is a good thing as it helps you to strive better to be the best, it can also be a bad thing if you aim higher than you are supposed to and use a bad method to achieve your aims. I got that deduction from the way he carries himself and the air around him, I have met a lot of people like him before and most of them either became great people or were destroyed because of their greedness. I wonder which category he falls under?
"You being an agent is even one of the reasons why you shouldn't be part of this. You were trained to be an agent, not a detective, and to succeed in this, you need to be able to observe and deduce so as to uncover the mastermind. So, as you can see, it isn't you who needs to worry but I" I said, unfolding my hands as I grabbed my cup of tea casually.
I went back to drinking my tea as if nothing happened before.
There was silence in the room for a while and I rose my brow quzzically at them.
"Aren't we concluding on this?" I asked with geniue curiosity as I finished my tea.
Director Adams cleared his throat as he seemed to have just been brought back to reality.
"So what do you say about the arrangement, Chris?" Director Adams asked, looking at the still angry Chris.
"I will follow your arrangement, Director" Chris said forcing a smile.
"Good. You can get back to your activities then, Chris" Adams said as he dismissed Chris.
"Of course, director" Chris said before leaving after glancing at me once more.
I just ignored his stare and when he finally left, Adams burst into laughter.
"That's why I like you Carla, you really put him in his place" He said as he smiled cheerfully.
"I was just telling him my mind, nothing much" I said casually as he chuckled.
"Well, I liked it. I always didn't feel comfortable with him for some reason and it made me glad to see him like that" Adams said as he faced me.
"He is still one of your people, you know? You should be on his side" I said teasingly as I got up.
"Oh! You are already leaving?" He asked looking at me.
"Yes, I have gotten what I came here for, even though I still need to arrange how Chris and I will work" I said, dropping the cup.
"Thanks for the tea, I will talk to you later" I said as he got up.
"I will escort you to the entrance" He offered and I rose a brow but agreed.
We left the building and are now standing outside.
"Well, hope you have a lovely day and catch that mastermind" Adams said with a charming smile before he went back to his office.
I got to my office and entered before sitting on the chair.
'This will be an interesting case'
