Chapter 1: Chapter 1
Adriana POV:
I felt a lump in my throat, it is so difficult to breath, I am not sure if is because of the long airplane travel or because I am missing so much my grandfather, it has been six months since he died and it only took five months for my mother to took everything that he left, without even thinking if she left her daughter and granddaughter homeless, but I should not be surprise, I am his biggest regret after all, after dropping school when I got pregnant on my third year of college, she did not find me worthy of calling me her daughter and dump me to the street.
And now I am dragging my three years old baby to a start a new life, leaving everything that she knew behind. I took a deep breath and close my eyes, remembering the good time that I had with my family, when we were all together, trying to hold my tears, I promised him that I would be strong and would do everything that I can for Isa and me. I would make our home, no matter what. It's just so difficult without you Abue. Just keep breathing, Adriana, we are almost there.
The travel was harder than I though, after taking a plane, we had to take a bus to the last stop and wait for Ellis to pick us up, which was prefect because we have been texting during the whole day, to let her know where we are, mainly because I do not want Isa to wait more than necessary, it has been a very long day for her and I can see how exhausting she is, when she look at me with those big eyes while we are walking outside with our belongings. "Mommy look that is aunty Ellis"
I looked up and found her with a big smile, waving her arm at us, I am so grateful for her and so happy to see her, she almost run to us and hug Isa first then me, "Oh Adri, It has been so long, I missed you so much"
"I missed you El" Just by hugging her I'm starting to feel lighter
"Oh you look beautiful and tired, Was a long trip?"
"Yeah, a very long one"
"Well don't worry, we are going to get your bags on the truck and after twenty minutes we would be home and you are going to be able to rest"
"Yeiiii" Says Isa with a huge smile
"You would love it Isa" Says Ellis taking her hand and leading her to the truck, "There is so much open space for you to play sweetheart"
On our way to her place I notice that we are driving far away of the town and we are getting surround by huge trees, even the air feels different, is kind of strange how far this town is and when we reach a signal that says Silvercrest Valley, I notice that it was a closer community that I though it would be, they had cameras, the gates were close and had guards, but once we pass it, I could see huge houses. We pass lot of stores, bars and restaurants, it has everything that you would need without living town. It is a very vary culture here and indeed is a beautiful as Ellis said, turning my head to her I smile and say, "Now I understand why you missed this place so much"
She smiles back, "I told you that was an amazing place, I am sure you would feel so comfortable, people here are very welcoming"
I truly hope, but I save my comment to myself, it has been enough that Ellis received us at her home indefinite, I would do my best to not cause her more issues. After another five minutes ride, we pull at a driveway of a huge house, it is bigger than my Abue's house and way fancier. taking my time to see the surroundings I can see the furthest house is the biggest one here and even at the distance I can see how beautiful and well care is.
"Come on, let me show your rooms" Said Ellis with a huge smile walking to the front door.
The house has two stories, four rooms and five bathrooms, but what made me felt in love was the kitchen, it's just simple amazing, is like a dream comes true, everything that I would need to make the best cakes, muffins or whatever I want, It just simple perfect. "Do you like it?" I heard someone says.
When I turned around, I found a shirtless tall man, olive skin and very well defined. "Who are you?"
He smiled at me, "I am sorry, my name is Connor, I'm Ellis fiancé"
I smiled back but did not know what to say, I was not aware that Ellis was engage and I felt awful to realize that most of our conversations was focus on my awful life and did not take my time to ask about her life, I've been a terrible friend and still she received me at her home.
"Ellis told me that you are an excellent baker and we got everything that you would need here"
"Well... No actually, I just know what my Abue taught me, I never took lessons"
"That does not mean that you are not good at what you do, just that you learnt on a different way"
"I guess" I smiled him
"Oh good, you two already met," Ellis said
"Yeah, we were just talking" Connor said before kissing Ellis and left the room
"You did not tell me you were engage"
"It's something recent actually and with what was happening to you, I could not bring it up"
"I'm sorry, I know this past year has been all about me and..."
"What are you talking Adri," Ellis interrupted me, "All that has happened to you has been so difficult, I am just glad that I am able to help you"
I just smile at her, she really is a good friend, even better than me, "But now we have plenty of time to talk about you and your wedding, please tell me everything"
She smiled back and went to her fridge, "But we should talk with a couple of beers"
A couple became on more than six, Ellis can hold her liquor much better that anyone I have met, well that's what I remember I am not sure of what happened after that, and thank God, the trip left Isa so tired that she felt asleep soon after we arrived, I did not want her to see me on that state, but I really enjoy having my friend back and being able to have a conversation with her. I really needed this, I couldn't remember the last time I laugh so much and I am so grateful.
